There are one-star reviews for Timothy (I'm not the first) for a reason. I can write in detail all of the issues I endured with this "professional" but I already know his modus operandi - which is to refute all issues - in a demeaning, disparaging and condescending tone (he's done this with me via phone, text and voicemail). If you don't believe me, read his responses to his 1-star reviews. He doesn't defend himself - he simply attacks by demeaning those who criticize his service. All this to say, i had a horrible experience with Timothy; his attitude and in particular - with his unprofessional approach and dialogue with my 19 year old daughter. Timothy is a highly skilled, very careful plumber. I wish he would write a book about the history of plumbing - he knows the what and why of code changes over the decades inside and out. His knowledge in this field isn't just interesting - it's extremely useful if you happen to have an older home, as I do. No one....NO ONE...has ever called a plumber in a good mood. Because of this, I'm not surprised to find that most plumbers are a bit standoffish - they tend to only hear bad things from their customers. So it began when I found I'd had a toilet slowly leaking for around 15 years...one day, it hit the breaking point, and I found a first floor ceiling starting to sag. After hitting up yelp, I called Daystar Plumbing...and was more than a bit surprised to not only get a living person on the phone, but the owner himself - Timothy. He was on a job, but took the time to listen to my tale of woe, and rearranged his schedule so that he could be here when my water mitigation guy was here. He showed up on time (and here I'd always assumed that was against the Plumbers Creed), was incredibly polite, looked at the problems, and proposed a solution (fix the leaking toilet...doh!). He got on it....took the toilet off the floor, showed me the problem (yes, chalk another winner up to Kenmark Construction - home of the worst...truly the worst...contractors that walk the planet), and proposed a rather interesting solution....that worked. I have had Timothy from Day Star Plumbing help me out with various plumbing issues for years now. He is very professional and has always been able to solve my plumbing issues quickly and at the same time charging reasonable rates. He even goes as far as to give me a ring if I'm having some smaller plumbing issues and helps me solve them over the phone at no charge. I think I got off on the wrong foot with Timothy and that's the main reason for my unsatisfactory experience. I called about a small leak I had outside my home while I was at work hoping to set up an appointment for a free quote as the Daystar website suggests. We started to talk about the leak and I got the feeling Timothy was trying to diagnose the problem over the phone which was OK but due to the nature of the problem it was sort of a waste of time. I suggested a quick visit to take a look at the problem since the house is very close to where Timothy works and he indicated that this would cost $150 per hour for the first hour and $60 per half hour after that. Since I wanted to get an idea of the magnitude of the problem prior to committing financially to getting the job done I told Timothy I would call him back after I had had a chance to explore other options. He explained to me that a free quote other plumbers would give me wasn't really free since I would end up paying for it in the long term but I felt uncomfortable committing to a job with someone who hasn't even seen the problem. I think Timothy either wasn't happy with my decision or he felt he could not do the job because he told me not to bother to call back. At one point in the conversation he also gave me the name and number of another plumber friend of his so perhaps he thought this job was too complex. read more

It goes to message; voicemail; unhelpful answering service. He has the cellphone attached to his ear, and even if he is at another job, he responds to your call. Second, He gets to the heart of the matter right away. He will ask you questions about your problem and give you possible solutions. It's free at this point, so be straightforward, honest, and give him as much information as you know. It might be something you can do. If not, then make a decision. Set an appointment. Upfront he will charge $95.00 ( $ 20.00 off for mentioning yelp ) for service call. But if you did the above, you know what needs to be done and the service charge is a so what. You have an idea what the overall price will be. Timothy is knowledgeable, relaxed and personable. He is a good guy. On the job, He will give you all the options and the costs. Then, he goes to work. If there is something discovered, he will call you to review and again, give you options. I had a hot water heater replaced. The old one was 17 years old with sediment and rust; it needed a platform; new valves; etc. Timothy did a great job, and a great clean up. I highly recommend him for your plumbing jobs. read more

It isn't often that you meet someone like Timothy who is honest, trustworthy and really knows what he is doing. We have used a couple plumbers since we moved into our new home, and I came across Daystar Plumbing by random chance. I always felt uncomfortable with the other plumbers that did a couple jobs for us as they always seemed to try and force additional repairs on top of what I had hired them to do to make some more cash off of me. Timothy has always been up front about his fees, he has never taken advantage of us by purposely extending the amount of time it takes to complete a job, and he actually educates me while he's working so I can do some of the work on my own the next time I have an issue! I have never had a contractor do that! His work has always been reliable as well and the 3 jobs we have had him do for us were of top quality and we have not had any issues since he completed the repairs for us. He has also been accommodating as well and always finds time for us within a few days to make the repairs we need (in fact, he came within a half hour after I called him during a week night at 7:30 when we lost all hot water to our house). I would highly recommend Timothy. He's very procedural with his work, always professional, a pleasure to talk to, good at what he does and seems that he would never give us the run around (meaning he does exactly what he says he will and can do). read more

Timothy from Daystar is a star, and is the first call I make for any plumbing issue. He has serviced our SF home a few times over the years, and because it's plumbing, we always need service in a hurry. He is always incredibly responsive. He's also very personable and smart. Tells me more about my waterworks than I'll ever remember...but it's greatly appreciated. It shows he really cares about his clients, long after the house call is made. In this last incident, I called him to service my aging water heater. He talked with me on the phone for 10 minutes to assess the situation completely (no other plumber ever does this, they get off the phone quickly and just show up). He had me tweak a few things -- which solved the problem and the cost of a house call... and lots of time. While I can't say that every plumbing issue cost me no money (!), I can say that Timothy will not recommend a part or a service that is unnecessary. And the pricing is always fair. (One quick note -- I see there is a one star review among many glowing ones for Daystar. When I read that low review, I wonder who wrote it...a competitor? Purchased a new refrigerator but delivery folks unable to install since the shut off water valve was leaking. Delivery had to have it fix before refrig installation. Timothy from Daystar came on very short notice on the same day and repaired our valve. We were so lucky he came within the hour of calling. He explained everything in detail as to what would be done. Tim is quite a fellow. I give this guy a five star because the end product / service was 100% + 10% awesome. I work in IT...and the finished work looked like it could easily have been put into a computer data center. no joke. I had to giggle. It was that neat. Tim did quote me above all other plumbers. We just have had our dripping Delta single handle shower faucet fixed. The handle was rusted out too, so it required a cutting off, but he did all that work quickly and we are off to the New Year with completely fixed shower. Tim is very easy to work with and very responsive on his cell phone and text messaging. He will even tell people honestly, when he is too busy to handle immediate issues. He can receive and respond text message and especially it will make his job quicker if you send him the picture of the issues. He will give you updates as to whether he is delayed etc. He will also clearly explain what he will and has done and provide any recommendations and also give you the price up front. Often ends up less than he initially quotes. He is Pacifica based so for the coast-side residents like us, he is an excellent resource to keep our plumbing in good order. We've been having a problem with the water heater in our apartment for about three weeks. The heater is "tank-less" meaning that a pilot light needs to be lit and stay on! so that the water is heated on the fly. So basically the light would not stay on and would not light. Our regular maintenance person came out about 4 times in this period and each time it would fail shortly after he left. He finally called Timothy @ Daystar as he is listed as an expert in these types of units. It's been about a day and the light hasn't gone out yet; which is great and hopefully it has been fixed for good, and if so deserves a 5 star review. But over 5 stars for thsi service b/c even though I don't know jack about engineering he took the time to explain all the issues and mechanics in a way I understood about not only the water heater unit but all the pipes and plumbing in the apartment, how I could save $$ by tweaking settings and how to knowledgeably troubleshoot problems if they occur again. Timothy from Daystar had come recommended by another plumber because he was specialized in Hans Grohe faucets. This recommendation ended up being a costly mistake. He came over and attempted to fix my defective faucets. Without any success, he requested to have the water shut off for the entire building but refused to be the one shutting it off... Two hours later, Timothy charged me $280 without having done any work. A few weeks later, another plumber came in to check my faucets. He quickly diagnosed the problem, shut the water off, cleaned the filters out and my faucets were back in business. Even better, he charged me $240 for the whole thing. read more

We had a leak under our kitchen sink....found out that the dishwasher was backed up with goop too. He replaced the airgap on the garbage disposal with a copper one and gave us a new hose also. He replaced the leaky chrome extension piece at the drain. and snaked the disposal... He is very fair and honest......what plumber does that anymore !!!!
