I am a 69 year old San Bruno resident who purchased a Toto toilet from Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing that Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing also installed. I am dissatisfied with this company. I made numerous requests for Mr. Andrew Rowland (Nigel Mulgrew's General Manager) to itemize the labor, product, and/or other costs for the $1,312.06 leaking Toto toilet that his company sold to me and installed in my home. Mr. Rowland refused to provide me with an itemization of costs for the labor, the toilet, and/or any other unidentified costs. At their web site, Toto shows that the leaking toilet sold to me and installed by Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing has an MSRP of $383. Therefore, if you deduct $383 from the $1312.06 that Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing charged me for the toilet and installation, that leaves $929 to distribute between labor and any additional unidentified costs that Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing may have added to the price of the toilet and its installation. However, since this Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing refuses to itemize the cost of labor, the price of the toilet, and any other unidentified charges there is no way to determine how much they are charging for labor, the cost of the product and other possible unidentified charges. That being said, it took the Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing plumber less than 2 hours, closer to one hour to install the toilet. Therefore, by my calculation, if Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing charged me the MSRP (price) of $383 for the toilet, the hourly cost of labor is approximately $926 (minus any unidentified charges) divided by somewhere between 1 and 2 hours. If Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing increased the MSRP (price) of the $383 toilet by 50% to $574.50, the labor component is somewhere between $737.56 (minus any unidentified charges) divided by somewhere between 1 and 2 hours. For many reasons, it is problematic when a company refuses to itemize labor, product costs, and other miscellaneous costs for the purchase and installation of a product. I invite Andrew Rowland (Nigel Mulgrew's General Manager) to explain why Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing refuses to itemize labor, product, and miscellaneous costs for the leaking Toto toilet that it sold to me and how Mulgrew Plumbing's refusal to be transparent about labor, product and itemized costs helps a consumer (such as myself) make a fully informed decision about a product that he or she is purchasing from and having installed by Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing. Transparency is a cornerstone of consumer protection laws, designed to empower consumers in the decision-making process. When companies provide clear, itemized breakdowns of costs, customers can make informed comparisons and select products and services that best meet their needs and those of their families. So, why would a company refuse to provide an itemized accounting of the products and services it sells? In my opinion, Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing's lack of transparency raises serious questions about the fairness of Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing's pricing. Awesome all around. I was so stressed when I flushed my toilet and noticed a flood of water coming from the ceiling downstairs, the week before Xmas. I immediately turned off all the water to my whole place. I was thinking no running water and $$$$ to fix plumbing in the ceiling, right before the holidays, if I could even find anyone to come. Mulgrew fit me in, even though they indicated they were super busy. They stopped by the day I called to stop the bleeding, assessed that it was not as bad as I thought (an improperly seated toilet rather than a burst pipe), and turned the water back on, putting me at ease, and getting me back online. With 2 kids, this was critical. Joe even gave me tips on how I could prep the space, before they came back, to reduce the job price estimate, as I indicated I was on a budget. Joe and Francisco came back a a second time, before Xmas, to properly finish the job, and Installed a new toilet, that I'd purchased. They were fast, and efficient. They were also clean and thoughtful about keeping the space tidy, and not leaving a mess. The crew did not charge me for anything I didn't need. They brought in some of their best guys to make a final call on whether they needed to open up more ceiling, and decided against it, which saved me money and headache. The invoice even came in under the estimate. When does that ever happen? Xmas came a few days early for me, with 2 working toilets and running water :-). I love my new toilet, and piece of mind. Called in a couple times to request a quote and service for a small commercial rotating gas oven. The job was to simply install a gas regulator (retails for $40-50), which just needs to be screwed and fastened between the oven and existing gas hose. Initially, it seemed no one had any understanding of what this was, and yet I was quoted just under $1,000 for this job for what should be a $200-300 max job. The job itself is incredibly simple and should take no more than 15 min with the correct tools. I'm just disgusted that this company would price gauge female owned businesses in this way. Nigel Mulgrew has been great to work with. They promptly came out a few weeks ago when we had a bathtub faucet leak. When I called for a quote/help they sent a plumber the same day. We were happy with our repair and professionalism of Francisco but upon taking some baths/showers noticed that our hot water just wasn't as hot as we needed. So I called again to share that and once again Nigel Mulgrew sent a plumber the same day to repair. No upcharges, no complaints by management, just great customer service. They sent Joe today who has also been very professional and courteous. I had to have the old galvanized pipes replaced under my house. I reached out to Andrew and Nigel the owner and his team. They were very empathetic to our situation. Nigel and Andrew came over themselves right away and assessed the situation. Unfortunately they found even more damage under our floors caused by that same plumber. Was bad news but could have been even worse had they not discovered it. We then work with an engineer and had Andrew and his colleague Joel do inspections and the work for us after. Very good experience. Knowledgeable and trustworthy which is very rare in this area. These guys were Life-savers!!! Our tankless water heater started flashing an error code, and stopped heating up water. Although we've had it for about five years, we had never encountered this particular code, and couldn't reset the system. After googling many options and watching multiple YouTube videos, I still couldn't fix it. After being out of hot water for a few days, I had no option but to call a professional. Unfortunately, I called the wrong one! They dispatched a "technician" who showed up late, and immediately charged me $69 just for showing up at our house. The individual looked at the exterior of the heater, took a couple pictures of the serial code and model, and then presented me with three options: $1000 to "diagnose" the problem + any potential replacement parts. Another option was spending a few thousand more for a complete "service" job, and $6800 to replace it. And remember, he never even did the minimal testing to see if it just needed a simple reset. Needless to say, I thanked him for his time and told him I'd find an alternative. I contacted the manufacturer, who recommended Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing. I called them after hours, and Andrew called me back. That in itself was impressive! He told me they were fully booked for another 4 days, but would call me should there be any cancellations. He also shared several pointers on how to diagnose the machine (for free). This next morning I received a call from the office, and within 20 mins Joel and his helper were at my house. It was a completely different experience from the previous day's experience with "the other guys." Joel was quick to troubleshoot a handful of different things. He communicated my options very clearly, and was confident he knew what the issue might be. He serviced the machine (used air compressor, removed debris, checked fuses, measured gas intake, etc). He then called the manufacturer to confirm step-by-step process of clearing the codes that didn't go away even after a complete descale and servicing. He meticulously followed every instruction given over the phone with tech support, and soon the water heater was fully functional. (We discovered that the water heater locked itself up internally due to multiple power outages we had experienced in Pacifica... thus the error code) Joel was incredibly helpful and courteous! He clearly explained the process to me, and when it was all said and done, I didn't even have to pay him on the spot. Instead, I was emailed the bill the following day. My total bill was $387! This was significantly less than what the "other guys" wanted. Although I hope to not have to use a plumber very often, i at least know now where I'll go should I have to! I highly recommend their services! (Ironically, I discovered later that the "other guys" are located right next to these guys). Take it from me, Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing is the way to go! read more

Very happy with recent service to replace some old washing machine connections. I'm very satisfied with the work and appreciate how promptly the company came out. Our plumber, Joe explained what would be required and cautioned me about the potential for more work if our old pipes presented problems. Fortunately, he was able to fix everything without any surprises, but I appreciate that he gave me a sense of potential (though unlikely) challenges. He also kindly informed me that he thought he smelled gas, investigated for a leak, and fortunately confirmed that he did not detect any issues. Oh the woes of a clogged kitchen drain. Joe Pizziconi arrived right on time, actually a few minute's early. Joe explained each step he would take to solve the problem and gave an update at each step. The clog was way down there and he discovered that the kitchen and bath drains were in 2 separate outlets to the main sewer not one. And he was able to do this without opening walls. After much finagling and bigger and longer snakes the clog was cleared. great care was taken to make sure my floors and counters were kept clean and everything was put back together and spotless. The cities water valve did not shut the water off completely which caused the house main supply valve replacement job to be more difficult than anticipated. Parts that were discontinued were replaced with better ones. Nigel went on the Internet and found what was needed for this unusual job. I am so pleased with the gentleman who came and worked on my house. There were other things that needed to be attended to, the wall valve needed to be replaced and it's so easy to use now it was leaking before and now it's dry. The turn off valve to the outside of the house was not functioning properly and they replace that valve and put a new hose attachment for the garden. In fact, another plumber who had tried to fix it ended up breaking the lid trying to reinstall it. I spoke with Andrew who was very professional, incredibly responsive and was able to have two master plumbers come out right away. They were friendly and helpful showing me what the problem was. I should start by saying above all, this is a wonderful plumbing company who's service, and customer service in general, is some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Late last year, we had some numerous things around the house that needed fixing, and/or replacement entirely. After initial visits and service, there were a total of three occasions they needed to come back out. Not once did they ever hesitate to promptly return and hear out our concerns. That's so refreshing and rare, especially in times like today! They replaced both toilet pumps, a shower valve that became a nuisance before, and our main line gas valve. I was looking for a plumber to replace bathroom sinks. In reviewing the YELP reviews, I happen to come across some excellent reviews on Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing Services. I called to make an appointment. Nigel came out to inspect my job. He was very nice, professional and honest. After the inspection, Nigel was concerned that my granite countertop could crack after the bathroom sinks were removed. He wanted me to be aware that it could happen but said his workman could possibly do it but he prefer having his friend (Kevin Burke's Tile) who is skilled in that area remove the sinks. Having it done correctly there would be less of a chance for it to crack. I was very thankful that Nigel went over everything with me so I would not have unrealistic expectations. He said when the sinks are installed he would send over his workman to hook up the sink plumbing. I had no idea what the process would be until he explained it to me. A few days later after my bathroom sinks were installed (they look beautiful by the way) Nigel sent over Joel and Pablo to hook up the plumbing. The guys were professional, very polite, they even took their shoes off and laid a special floor covering over my bathroom floor to keep it clean. Wow! I was amazed. What a fantastic job they did. The plumbing went well, they also tightened my faucetes and checked everything thoroughly so there were no leaks. Everything worked like a charm. We called Nigel Mulgrew to fix it. They found and fixed all the problems, including writing up a full report with pictures and videos for us to submit to the bath retrofit company for reimbursement (which they did.) I recently needed a new faucet installed and called Nigel Mulgrew Plumbing. We set up an appointment, they showed up on time wearing masks and protection on their shoes. After assessing the job, they went to work and effectively and efficiently removed the old faucet and installed the new one. The plumbers were friendly and met all of our needs. After using the faucet far a couple days, it was apparent it was not working correctly, very weak flow, hardly enough to wash dishes. After calling retailer and manufacturer for help, and getting very little satisfaction, we called Nigel Mulgrew back and explained the situation. They agreed to come back and take a look. They identified the problems, water restrictor in the faucet and faulty shut off valves, took care of both issues in a very timely manner. Also, he provided me with the direct contact information of his boss - Andrew, just in case I have some other plumbing problems and cannot reach Joel immediately. Nigel and his crew of Mervin and Julio did an EXCELLENT job installing the rough plumbing for our new half bath. They were on time, curtious, and extremely professional. Nigel was one of three plumbing contractors we recieved quotes from, and although not the lowest, he was competitive with the other two (within a few hundred dollars), with the caveat that final bill might be lowered depending upon the difficulty of the project. He also assured us that the price would NOT increase. When we received the final bill, we were shocked that it was 27% lower than the initial quote! I would recommend Nigel and his gang to anyone that wants to renovate their bathroom, kitchen, utility room, etc. He was a delight to work with and will be our first call if we decide to renovate our main bathroom. read more

We moved to Northern California this last summer and the guy who flipped the house we bought recommended Nigel. Nigel met with us within a day of our first call to him, and brought one of his guys on-site that same day to make the introduction. We have had three plumbers at our house for a variety of reasons, from small modifications to emergency situations. We are pleased to refer Nigel Mulgrew plumbing and rate them the highest rating. They even ask where to park their vehicles so as not to disturb the neighbors.
