Whether or not you adhere to the Montessori principles, Tree Roots Montessori (TRM) is a top-notch environment for any child. Here's why we chose TRM and stayed there for 3 years (ages 2-5): 1. The staff operates under a growth mindset. We experienced a positive relationship with Ms. Hulya and her staff. Ms. Hulya has over 15+ years of experience and demonstrates a desire to stay current and advance her professional development. She attends yearly workshops and maintains a curiosity for learning. When you find an educator with such deep passion for teaching, it makes a night-and-day difference for your child. 2. The setting is ripe for learning. It's obvious that everything at this school is designed to advance and elevate the students' learning experiences. This space is purposefully curated, impeccably organized, and remarkably clean. It continues to pass official health inspections by always adhering to their standards. Think of TRM as a daily retreat or sanctuary for your kids. 3. Intimacy yields social and emotional development. The teacher-child ratio is optimal (including Ms. Hulya, there are 2 additional assistants on-site). The small class size helped our kid develop deeper relationships with other kids and gain a sense of collective responsibility. As younger kids grow and progress, they are encouraged to provide mentorship for incoming kids. It's these relationships that emphasize social and emotional development, making academic achievements possible (i.e. reading, writing, math skills, etc.). 4. Mealtimes cultivate positive experiences with food. We wanted a place that stressed good nutrition and smart eating habits. TRM always has snacks on-hand (from Whole Foods) and follows a strict policy of 'no sugar or junk food' in lunches. Kids participate in setting the table and loading dishwasher, eating their veggies first, and helping with meal prep. These communal eating experiences and regular cooking activities also led to good dining etiquette and meal planning for our family at home. 5. Trust and transparency are key to everyone. Much of TRM successes are attributed to Ms. Hulya and her teaching philosophy. This is why parents must equally invest in developing a transparent working relationship with her. We found Ms. Hulya to be open to our suggestions, honest in addressing our concerns, and willing to provide reasonable solutions for any course correction. Her communication was warm and friendly; mostly done via in-person or phone call (sometimes via text message or email). Overall, we wouldn't trade our experiences at TRM for anything. Our child felt the support of educators who invested in his development within a loving environment. He now has self-confidence and social skills needed to transition to kindergarten. He has an enthusiasm for learning, creating the building blocks for academic success. He also discovered passions (like cooking and painting) that we'll continue to foster. We know it's not always easy to find the right learning environment for your child. Choosing a school can be a trial-and-error process. If TRM is a good fit, you will not be disappointed. I was told by shannon that they tested the boy and he had behavioral problems. She stated they informed the parents but the parents didn't want to do anything about it and were in denial. I asked her if they do anything about it like kick the children out. she said that they don't do that but they try to work with the parents and get counselors in. But that never happened. My son started to get restless in the three year old so I asked shannon to put him in with the 5. He had already learned everything and needed to be more challenged. She did put him in with the 5 year olds and he did great for some time. But then one day they sent that child into the room with my son and that child stabbed my son with a pencil in the forehead. I had told Shannon that this is causing a big problem and that my son is starting to be aggressive at home. I told her she did not fix it that I would contact the board on them. She apologized profusely and advised that she would make sure it wouldn't happen again. I have also found out from other teachers that if shannon has anything against the parent, she will pick on the child. And if the child says something to the parent she plays it off like Oh they're being kids and it's their fault. I am so glad we moved away and had to leave the school. Never again.

She is gifted academically, but she also has needs that simply do not fit neatly into a traditional classroom model. Before coming to Spondeo, we were at a gifted school in the Chandler district and were repeatedly told that what she needed most was a gifted environment so she wouldn't be bored. On paper, that made sense. In reality, it was an awful fit for her. What we have learned is that being gifted was never the whole picture. Yes, she needs to be challenged academically, and she absolutely thrives when given the opportunity to move at her own pace. But she also needs an environment that understands her nervous system, gives her room to regulate, and does not demand conformity simply for the sake of making a child fit into a traditional mold. That is where Spondeo has been such a blessing. They see the whole child. They recognize that a student can be incredibly advanced academically while still needing patience, flexibility, movement, choice, sensory support, and a different approach when something feels overwhelming. Instead of treating those needs like obstacles, Spondeo works with them. They meet her where she is and still continue to help her grow. Academically, she is able to flourish. She can work at the level she is capable of without being artificially held back by age or grade expectations. But what means even more to us is that Spondeo understands that education is not just about how quickly a child can read, write, or do math. A child has to feel safe enough to learn. They have to trust the adults around them. They have to be given space to become independent without constantly being forced into compliance. We have seen such a difference in our daughter since coming here. She walks into school independently. She is participating, completing work, building relationships, and finding success again. For some families, those things may sound ordinary. For us, after the school experiences we came from, they are enormous. The communication from her teachers has also been thoughtful, honest, and compassionate. When something is difficult, the conversation is not simply about what she did wrong. They look at what happened, what she needed in that moment, what strategies might help, and how everyone can support her moving forward. That approach has brought our family a level of peace that we did not have before. For a long time, we thought the answer was simply finding a better gifted school. It turns out what our daughter really needed was Montessori. She needed an environment like Spondeo, where her giftedness could be nurtured without sacrificing her emotional well-being, where her differences were understood instead of punished, and where she could be challenged without being forced to conform.
