We got two rooms for the five of us -- Sara and Desiree's Room -- which certainly provided enough space. We even had an extra bed for the sixth person who stayed elsewhere and Patty graciously extended breakfast to him! The Stay was a quick five minute ride downtown to where our event was held in Cooperstown at the Hall of Fame. And we were well prepared after enjoying the family-style hearty, filling, home made breakfast. After calling each place in the area (well in advance) I can confidently recommend The Rose & Thistle as a great choice.

There are no elevators - so be ready to carry your luggage. Also I'm not sure how great the AC is - this is a historic Mansion - I'm taking wood windows with chains. It really made me reminisce of my childhood home. The bed was very comfy and I slept with the windows open for cool breeze. I opted out of breakfast as it seemed carb heavy - per recommendation went to the diner around the corner- so good! Front desk staff is charming- the other staff (maids staff) is... interesting. The location was convenient - two blocks away from Main Street, so it was quiet, but only about an 8 minute walk into town, including the Hall of Fame (baseball, for all you coming to town for the opera). Three different churches are about five minutes away by walking, and there was sufficient parking at the Barnwell, even with a full house. Mark and Tara were outstanding hosts. Very personable, with good senses of humor. Attention to service was evident with all the "special" things done for breakfast for various guests (this reviewer included). Example: When the Keurig was broken a replacement was purchased within twelve hours. Yes, coffee is provided 24/7. Tara was an outstanding 'concierge' with recommendations of restaurants and the local area. Mark has an obvious passion for cooking, evidenced by the quality of the breakfasts (as well as the amount of food we had!). Anyone who will buy andouille sausage via mail order to ensure a good quality pays attention to the little details. Three days, three breakfasts, and nothing was repeated. She and her husband Mark make you feel like welcome guests from your first inquiry about reservations until your final day at the Inn. They are a truly gracious couple! After we made reservations, Tara provided us with recommendations of things to do in the area as well as places for lunch and dinner. She also offered to make reservations for us. All of her suggestions were excellent. The Hall of Fame wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although I didn't feel the need to visit for a second day. Tara recommended the Fennimore Art Museum, and I spent an enjoyable morning exploring there. The Inn is in a lovely home in a quiet neighborhood, and is only a few blocks from the HOF, shops and restaurants. Cooperstown is a great town for walking. One of the best parts of staying at the Barnwell Inn is the breakfast. It is presented beautifully, and the food is out-of-this-world good! Our stay at the Barnwell Inn was one of the best lodging experiences we've ever had. I'm even looking forward to a return trip to Cooperstown! The room was large, two double beds, was clean. Decor is a little dated but is still charming and homey feeling! There is plenty of towels and blankets. We enjoyed the small seating area by the window to sit and reflect early morning to do reading. The only gripe which bumped the review down was our air conditioner is too small for the large room we had. Possibly could of be remedied if we turned it on prior to going in to Oneonta for dinner. We prefer our AC to be on high...it looked like the knobs have been taken off to prevent changing the settings. The next morning we decided it would be more convenient to have breakfast in the hotel. The breakfast was ABSOLUTELY amazing! We ordered the children's first. The two youngest had the mini pancake...which was not mini! The really enjoyed it!
