They have interesting flavor combinations but some of them are a little too sweet. Yes these are donuts but there is such a thing as too much sugar. I'm not saying I didn't like these donuts because they were good!! But I've definitely had better donuts in the Salt Lake area. The interior was not inviting and makes you want to grab your stuff and head right out. Which I guess is pretty normal because who's really hanging around a donut shop? I'm so sorry for the photo with 1/4 of the apple fritter already eaten. I thought this place was going to be mediocre because of the stars, but the apple fritter ranks as one of the best I've eaten. So, of course, I needed to review it. We recently moved to SLC from the Midwest and I've struggled to find baked goods that compare. I think it's due to the elevation out here making baked goods textures a little denser. This was not the case with this apple fritter. It was the perfect ratio of crispy edges and soft chewy insides. The glaze was sweet but not cloying. The fritter was warm which made it extra tasty. I didn't try any other donuts but the fritter was definitely worth 4.5 stars. Well, OK, donuts but not great. They are pretty dough-y and thick. I did have a maple glazed donut fresh out of the vat, and it was good. But I've been there before and been there afterwards and I'm just not impressed with the donuts. Disappointing in that they are the chain that I grew up with in my hometown and they had the best donuts. I guess each franchise does it their own way ever though they are contractually obligated to use the same dough recipe. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. Don't waste your time. I'm tired of coming here in hopes that they have a good selection of donuts or even just a chocolate doughnut or an apple fritter or chocolate Bavarian cream, but they literally only have weird donuts that nobody wants every time I come in. I think it's because they don't want to waste donuts at the end of the day which I understand but to come in here every single time and they don't have what I want is just a waste of time. The parking lot is terrible because if you want to leave you end up trapped Waiting for 1 million cars and it's literally just a waste of your time to come to this donut shop. Daylight Donuts was just okay. Maybe I've been spoiled with some of the donut shops I used to frequent, but I found the donuts to be average. Service was quick. They do have a decent variety of rasied, filled, and cake donuts. I brought a half dozen home for us to try - glazed, chocolate iced cake, black raspberry filled, chocolate iced, and iced with sprinkles. I'm more of a fan of raised donuts, so I did try a couple. I'm not sure if I would return, but I would say they are better than a National chain like Krispy Kreme. read more

When I lived in Saratoga springs I would go to daylight donuts almost every day. I loved it. My favorite donuts by far. Now I go to the sandy one on occasion. I'm dissapointed every time. The selection is extremely bare bones compared to other locations, and the quality of the donuts is extremely low as well. I'm no baker, so I can't tell you why, but they aren't right. Maybe underproved? Definitely undercooked. Very expensive for something gross. Won't be going back again. Either way, this location does a very bad job at making and selling donuts. read more

I was hoping for more of a selection in requesting two different types of half dozens as they both had similar donuts in each box. We come here about once a month. They have good donuts and are close to home. They often try next donut flavors that my kids love. Their maple bars are delicious as well as the old fashioned donuts. My daughters favorite is the pink frosting with sprinkles. It's light and moist. Definitely worth a try. read more

Gross. Here is our story. We stroll into daylight donuts at 10am on a Wednesday...maybe it was a Thursday. The place was deserted. No customers. No staff. We waited for about 5 minutes...calling into the back room for some service. Just as we turned to leave: we hear a toilet flush and the bathroom door flies open and out comes an employee dressed in an daylight donuts apron. His apron...oh his apron was absolutely disgusting. It was smothered in stains. Swirls of browns and yellows, reds and greens...(Greens!? What's a green ingredient in donut production?!) covered his large belly. Splashes of flour or powdered sugar added additional texture. It was like a Jackson Pollock painting. He asked us what we would like...and my quick brain thankfully blurted out in time: "I'm good, I just wanted to look over the menu for a different day." My poor wife felt cornered and couldn't think of an excuse to get out of there without a donut. She froze. She bought a kind of pink frosted donut and threw it away immediately as we left the establishment. Yuck. I've been to over 50 donut establishments in my day...and this one was by far the grossest. Things that make me blissfully happy on particularly good mornings: fast and smooth flowing freeway travel, bright sunlight, friendly service from my drive-through bank staff, and donuts...pretty simple stuff. I'm a donut purist - a glazed-raised junkie. My fringe choices extend to an occasional cruller, bear claw, maple bar, or filled variety. But no cake donuts, or crazy frosting/toppings. Daylight produces some VERY GOOD raised selections for my fellow purists. Intense donut flavor, light and fluffy, yet substantial. Perfectly sweet glaze, and just right fillings. I tried their standard glazed, chocolate-iced raised, lemon-filled Bismark, Honey Bun, and something that resembled a bear claw but much much larger than anything I've seen previously. I was surprised and impressed with each and every one. There wasn't a single choice I would have traded in for something better. My favorite turned out to be the Honey Bun. It was absolutely delicious, and left me wishing I'd picked up more than one. The lemon Bismark was also extraordinarily tasty with perfectly flavored lemony goodness. When you get exceptionally good donuts, you realize just how much trouble you're in. I'm in big (BIG) trouble. Huge. read more

I have attempted to be a patron at this business on multiple occasions. The first attempt was on a Sunday they were closed. Completely my fault. I should've checked the hours. My second attempt was on Saturday morning. I was excited to spend money and see if this place was worth my ongoing efforts. To my disappointment, the doors were locked. The donuts are eh-oh, no different from a grocery store bakery donut. The employee I encountered was helpful, courteous, exemplified customer service and was friendly on top of all of that. So why the one star ... the owner, his complete lack of customer service, his grumpy attitude and his rude treatment of customers. I show up with my gift card in tow, a friendly first grade student had wonderfully given it to me as a Christmas present and I was excited to try out their donuts on this fine summer day. I filled up my box of a dozen donuts, gave above mentioned employee my gift card and I thought I was on my way to enjoy a wonderful morning. Not. So. Fast. Above mentioned owner sent his above mentioned friendly employee out into the parking lot to tell me that I could not in fact use my gift certificate that that location and I must return to pay for my donuts. I'm sorry ... what? How is it my fault that your gift cards do not specifically state they must be used at only one location? And how is it my fault that despite having the same name, logo, etc, I'm supposed to know that you're independently owned. I'm pretty good with common sense, and instead of his "If we gave you these donuts it would be like giving away $10 worth of donuts because we didn't receive the money for the gift card" approach I simply would have smiled at the customer, encouraged her to return again and then contacted the other location to swap out the gift card for the $10. The customer would be happy, you would be happy and you'd have a customer that would return again and again. Instead you have a customer who will never return to your location again and will be sure to share her disappointment in your poor management with anyone who asks. read more

First, don't let the very bourgeois spelling of the word "doughnut" fool you into supposing this to be a base establishment. There are those who would reject the place solely on the basis of nomenclature. You're better than that. The doughnuts here are very tasty. We tried many different varieties of cake doughnuts (those left at the end of the day - poor souls). Each member of our group found a different doughnut to like. I preferred the glazed apple cake doughnut. The apricot rolls probably would have been amazing at the beginning of the day. I will say that the doughnut holes here are among the best I've ever had. The apple fritters were also solid. 89 cents for a non-grocery doughnut seems fair. I think the store is family-run, but licensed with the national chain. These donuts are pretty good. Most of the donuts are smaller than you may normally see at other places, but are priced about the same. I'm afraid to say that I think Banbury has ruined me for donuts. Every place with donuts is automatically compared to them, and it's a tough battle to win. I can't say these guys won it, either, but they make a good donut and I'll definitely be back. Decent, three-star donuts. I had the porcupine recommended to me, and it was pretty ok. Old fashioned was a bit too dense and impenetrable for my tastes, while the strawberry and cream cheese pie pocket was unique and just barely making it over the horizon to tasty. Can you feel my overly qualified meh-ness about this place? It's likely because of the fritter that I had. Disappointing barely covers it. Flat, dense, and doughy. It was the opposite of fritter nirvana. On the weakness of that along, this three-star review becomes two. And jumps back up to three for having protein options! Sausages and cheese, stuffed into fried dough, and an honest-to-goodness sausage and pepper jack cheese kolache as well. Finally, kolaches at the south end of the valley? Did I feel like I'd eaten a lead brick after finishing mine? Oh, you bet I did. Still, I love a donut place that'll offer me some protein to stop me from buzzing off into the ionosphere on a sugar high, so well done. The pie donuts are an absolute must! These are good solid donuts. The flavor of the standard donuts are yummy but there's something extra special about the pie donuts so any time I get something besides those I wish I had gotten a pie donut. But I recently had the bavarian creme donut and I like it as much as the pie donuts. We've also tried the maple bar, apple fritter, bear claw, and a cake one (I don't remember the flavor). I personally love daylight donuts. I'm a huge cake donut fan, and they make some of the best. Are their better donuts in the world? Yes. Are they anywhere near this donut shop? No. My favorite donuts are Banbury Cross (downtown SLC) and the Chevron gas station in Kamas, Utah. I'm not in Kamas every day, but it's definitely worth stopping to get one when I'm near there.
