Someone recently asked me what my favorite dessert is. Well, that's hard to answer since I love most of them...but donuts might be in the top three. I'm a fan of the traditional, no frills glazed or sugar variety. I can appreciate the artistic appeal of the fancy donuts that some shops are coming up with, but my go-to will always be the tried and true. Daylight gives me just that. Came here while on a day trip with my family and it was my first time even seeing a daylight donuts since I was eight years old and it was everything i could've hoped for. Joy was so nice and welcoming even gave us a history lesson about the process of how they make there in house donuts. The ambiance was just like i remember as a kid and felt like I was stepping into a place that loved what they sold and cared about the quality. The donut holes are the item i recommend the most and if you are in St. George you have to come here and bring some donuts back with you one is never enough. read more

Tried this really awesome donut place on National Donut Day. They were awesome. It's was a great way to try several options, when all types and flavors wert 99¢. That is not their normal pricing. Next time I will get her suggested raspberry and cream cheese bear claw. They donate remaining donuts to food shelters instead of throwing them out. I came here on a weekday and got a blueberry old fashioned, a chocolate bear claw, and a pinecone. The chocolate bear claw had some stuffing inside it which tasted really weird as it was a bit sour. The chocolate coating and the bread-like donut otherwise was fine, and I enjoyed the pinecone too because it was crunchy. The blueberry old fashioned had real blueberries in it which I appreciated, but both it and the pinecone were too sweet, too much sugar. These three donuts came out to be almost $4 post-tax which is alright since the pinecone and the bear claw were pretty big. read more

Not impressed at all. I have been to many Daylight Donut shops. I grew up in Southern California so donut shops are plentiful. My husband went and picked up a dozen plus a cinnamon roll and fritter. At first look the donuts look like Dunkin' Donuts, meaning they don't look like real, homemade donuts. The blueberry cake honestly tastes exactly like the one at Dunkin. The Apple fritter was awful. It had a super light hint of apple and it was SO doughy. The texture was not at all what a fritter should be. There wasn't a single thing I was pleased about with any of the donuts. Like a drunk sailor since 2006 I have chased donuts all over this burb! After the grocery stores and their "bakeries", after Maverick's Krispy Kreams, the Sunset Corner experiment of "making them on demand" (now that was fresh), I wrote Dunkin Donuts begging...having no shame I approached Burger King and pleaded with them to add Horton's Donuts to the menu. Zip, nada, nothing! How hard should it be to get a decent donut around here? Don't get me going on a New York bagel... If it shows up here, I will find it, and try it...Along comes Daylight Donuts. They say "timing is everything". DD opens at 5 a.m. (great for truckers (location could be closer to I-15 for these customers), golfers, teachers, construction crews, and the 7-3 shift. Baking is done once overnight. So when these tasty morsels are gone, they are gone. This could be noon, or picking up leftovers and cleaning the counters by 1 p.m. For stragglers, and impulsive purchasers such as me...call first and place order for pickup the next day. Saturday morning's staff (a delightful young man, and a friendly smiling young woman...oops no names, but check schedule...not on my emailed receipt) were about to have me eating crow. At a little after 8 a.m. my pooch and I arrive to pickup our donuts. Worried they maybe exhausted from baking all night I was prepared for their surly attitudes. Ha Ha the joke was on me...they didn't bake, they just had early morning counter duty and they were good spirited, perky, and helpful. With full showcases they helped me roundout my reserve to an even dozen. I even got a great cup (Community from Louisiana) of coffee to go. I was hoping for a baker's dozen (13), also a plain cake/buttermilk donut or cruller. Everything had cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glaze, frosting or sprinkles of some sort. Serious coffee drinkers like to dunk the donut which is easier if plain cake like, rather than yeast driven. Just a thought if taking suggestions. Customers were all picking up phoned in orders, anticipation was on every face...the first bite. DD is small but clean, and it smells goood! With the finished Bluff Street, access is easy into that strange, hilly complex of shops. I must say they were worth the wait. With SG and Washington growing maybe DD will entertain a couple of strategically placed donut (food) trucks (Bloomington/Sun River area), and Washington Fields or Washington Parkway off I-15 before deciding were next to put brick & mortar. St. George has been missing a really good place to get donuts (Fractured Prune was good but not your traditional type of donut) for many years. There are a few bakeries around town that offer donuts, but the main focus at those bakeries is cinnamon rolls, cookies and cupcakes. I was really excited when I saw Daylight Donuts open up on Bluff St. with their main focus being donuts. When I walked in there was nobody at the counter at first and then a lady came from the back and greeted me. She was friendly and answered my questions about what flavors the donuts were. The selection was good, they had plenty of flavors available and the glass case the donuts were in was clean. I wanted a half dozen and a mixed variety, so it was just under $8. Price varies depending on how many and what type of donuts you want. You can buy them single, as a combo or by the half and whole dozen. Regular Donuts ($0.89 each) - Blueberry, Chocolate Bar and Lemon Glazed..... The chocolate bar was average and while the blueberry had a good amount of blueberry flavor, the glaze was just far too sweet. The lemon donut was cake-like and pairs nicely with coffee or tea, but the lemon flavor could have been more noticeable in the glaze. Fancy Donuts ($1.09 each) - Blueberry Filled Bear Claw and Glazed Twist...... If you try anything here, try the blueberry (it also comes in pina colada) filled bear claw. The bear claw is huge and although the glaze is sweet like it was on the other donuts, the amount of soft and pillow like donut of the bear claw somewhat evens it all out. The blueberry and custard filling was a nice touch and while I did enjoy this donut the best, it wasn't anything I'd come back just to have. The glazed twist was so overly sweet that I only made it through 2 bites. Rolls ($1.39 each) - Pine Cone...... The lady who helped me said this was their version of a cinnamon roll and was very popular. I personally did not like the pine cone donut at all. The texture and flavor was more like a fritter gone wrong than any type of cinnamon roll. The pine cone was drenched in glaze that was just too sweet. I was sad to see Fractured Prune on Bluff St. close and while the concept over at FP was different, it was still a better option for donuts than here at Daylight Donuts in my honest opinion. If you are the Winchell's type of donut fan you might just like it here. Daylight Donuts started in 1954 and is a large chain now, so the logo is the same at different locations however the consistency of the donuts and people running each location will not be the same. read more

St George FINALLY has an awesome donut joint! I'm so thrilled to have found one that's on par with Winchell's and Ken's Donuts (Austin, TX)! Up until now, St George has been sadly lacking... No longer! The cake donuts are fabulous. Lightly crispy on the outside; lovely and moist on the inside. Glazed. Powdered sugar. Cinnamon (almost as good at Ken's hot-out-of-oven!!). Chocolate covered. All highly addictive! All highly recommended! Their cinnamon rolls are the prettiest, most unique looking cinnamon rolls I've ever seen. The dough is a soft-yeasty dough, with a hint of cinnamon that's not complete overpowering. Perfect combo of cinnamon and glaze. I can't say I'm overly fond of their old fashioned donuts, either the sour-cream or chocolate covered (which is my absolute favorite at Winchell's). They just don't taste "right" to me... But that's not going to stop me from giving them five stars! Overall, their baked goodies were delightfully sweet (without being sickeningly sweet, like so many other places, like the Fractured Prune). read more

FINALLY, a regular donut shop n SW Utah! I moved here from SoCal 6 months ago and until today the only good donuts I've had were the ones my sister brought back from OC. I happened to notice the Daylight Donuts shop as I was driving back home from Kneaders Restaurant and Bakery, Daylight Donuts is not quite two lights up the street. The shop is small, fresh, clean, and I have to say the the chocolate bar and glazed twist I ordered were absolutely delicious, so much so that I ordered two more The glazed twist reminded me of Krispy Kream's glazed donuts, but better. The chocolate bar was practically melt in your mouth nirvana. It was definitely worth the drive from Coral Canyon. The only thing that could make me happier was if they had free delivery, or opened another shop closer to me. I'm afraid I embarrassed myself by profusely thanking the owner for opening their shop. We stopped in here yesterday on our way home from the gym. By the time we got there (around 10 am) they were pretty picked over, but there was still enough to take 6 different ones home with us. :) All of them were good, and we loved the location, the cleanliness of the shop, and the owner was not only nice, but he grew up where we live now. We want to go back a little earlier next time to see what all they have in stock regularly. The one donut that kind of surprised us both was the fritter. It was flat like a pancake. This was the only stand alone donut place in town so I drove 15 minutes each way to try them = time not well spent. I've stopped by so many times (weekday and Saturday) when they still have hours left until closing time, and they have one tray or less of donuts. Daylight Donuts is a chain and owned by different people across the country. I was hoping for more of a mom and pop taste and feel but it did end up tasting like another chain donut. The person working was nice and they had a good selection but it was all so sweet. The regular fritter was okay yet the "pine cone" which is a different version of the fritter tasted like I was eating straight sugar and you can see from the picture I posted the amount of heavy glaze on it. The bear claw was huge and if it didn't have so much damn glaze on it, would have actually been very good. I am a doughnut lover. I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Daylight Donuts as we were visiting our very best friends in Washington City, Utah. One of my favorite things to do when I visit a city where I've never tasted the donuts before I make a point to look for the local donut places. I must admit I'm more of a doughnut snob but I know what a great quality raised glaze doughnut is. Daylight Donuts was amazing with the raise glazed doughnut and a chocolate old-fashioned doughnut. The raised glazed was covered with delicious frosting and when I bit into it, it was light and fluffy and not cake like. Subpar donuts. First, their online website says they were open when we checked at 0510, but upon arrival at 0530, they were still closed with an open time of 0600. So we waited in the parking lot until 6. They have a fairly decent selection of the Standard Donuts, but they were all day-old-tasting. We expected them to be fresh and possibly even warm seeing they had just opened. The four we bought were all cold and a bit hard. Definitely not fresh. My wife called and complained but was told that their donuts are made fresh daily. We won't go back. read more
