I know that's a strange observation, but this was our first time here. Their selection seem pretty good. I judge all donut shops by their Apple fritters. I ordered a Bavarian cream filled glazed donut for my wife, and a maple bar, apple fritter, and old fashioned donut for a trial run. The maple bar glaze was good, but the actual donut was just ok. The apple fritter was terrible. It was way too dense and one minuscule piece of apple in it was all I could find. It was definitely not worth the calories. The old fashioned donut was even worse. The chocolate glaze was tasteless and the donut itself was gummy and tasted like old oil. We will definitely cross this place off of our list and try some other local shop the next time we have a hankering for a donut.

Oh well, guess I'll just find a different shop that wants to take business seriously that can at base minimum atleast be friendly about not having anything ready.

This morning, I wanted to give Tigers Den Donuts a chance to win our occasional business. What a great choice I've found. The shop is clean, the staff is extremely friendly, and the choices were enormous. I wanted a maple bacon long John, but there wasn't any in the display. The employee asked if I would like her to make me one? I said please, make it 2. I also ordered 2 standard glazed along with my requisite test donut, my favorite, an apple fritter. I also ordered a cinnamon knot because I liked the look of it. The maple bacon long john was awesome. It was light and fluffy, a good amount of maple glaze, and an extraordinary amount of crispy bacon. One of the best I've ever had. My wife said the glazed donuts were simple, but good. I knew the apple fritter was going to be epic, because my first bite had a good amount of apple bits in it. The fritter density was spot on. It was moist, flavorful, and loaded with apple. The cinnamon knot was similar to a cinnamon roll and was very tasty. We definitely found our go-to place for our occasional cheat day treat. If you truly want a great donut, this is the spot, if not, you can try your luck at Daylight Donuts.

By dictionary definition this is a cafe' - "An informal restaurant that serves coffee, baked goods, light meals." (cafe' from the French for coffee) But the American use of the word implies full meals are served in a sit-down-be-served fashion, which is what I thought I was going to - something like The Big Biscuit nearby or on Tulsa's west side, Breakfast By Day (BBD) - this isn't that. It is a simple, neighborhood donut shop in a shopping center featuring all the usual suspects: Delicious and varied donuts, 'Jimmy Dean' sausage sandwiches, sausage rolls, jalapeño sausage rolls, milk in a cooler, etc. You walk in and see what you see in most small donut shops: The tile floor, the simple tables and chairs, the cooler with milk and other drinks against the wall, the glass case in front filled with donut selections, and a helpful and friendly (owner I assume) taking orders. He is generous with a complimentary bag of donut holes for the taking as long as they last, will fill a donut with a choice of fillings upon request, customize your order anyway you like - and as I said in my opening sentence, it is that customer service that gets the 4th star. Good little place to go with kids or grandkids (in my case) to eat 'out' some sleepy morning.
