Well it seems there's a lot of people here who really like this company and their rep(s). I guess not everybody is going to 'click' with everybody though. I found their rep a bit er...I don't know that 'abrasive' is the word but... with somewhat of a 'can't do' attitude. I was also surprised that unlike another company that came out to my apartment for a consultation, their rep never asked me in advance to give them a sense of what I was looking for color/style-wise. When they showed up to my home and we began talking about colors and styles, I was surprised that they did not seem prepared to show me examples of styles. So they had to go on the internet and do a 'search' to look for potential valance styles for example, to show me. I'm giving Gil Kasimov's Day Light window treatments 5 stars because he provided excellent service after some bad experiences with other window treatment folks. The good first: Gil has good taste. He recommended exactly what we needed for our apartment without trying to upsell things we didn't need (like others did). His color suggestion was excellent. The products arrived at our place quickly (even over Christmas) and Gil called promptly to set up install (too quickly! I was busy at work and didn't really have time to deal with this - but it worked out). He was on time for installation and did the job quickly and cleanly. We'll see how things go in terms of service and repair, but to date, we were very satisfied with the service and thought it deserved some real praise. If you live in Brooklyn and need shades, I think it's worth your time to call these people and give them a chance to make a deal. To the extent I have something bad to say, it's that you're never going to get the price from a private company like this that you might get from, say, Lowe's, where my parents in Virginia bought similar shades for less. So I feel like we paid a slight premium for giving business to a local person. However, on the whole I think the excellence of the service we received was worth it, and we are very pleased indeed with the shades. read more

I have windows framed by a very old and uneven brick wall, and Gil took the time to make custom measurements and careful installation so that nothing was uneven. I found Gil through Yelp, and my positive experience echoed that of others who reviewed the company. I scheduled a free in-home consultation and booked that same day, which meant that installation was free. I had previously gone to check out the prices at Home Depot, and Gil's were similar. He is really helpful and offers many choices. He measured each measurement 3-4 times to make sure they were accurate. After I put in my order, he was responsive about keeping me updated on the arrival of the materials. Once they arrived, I scheduled installation and he came by that week to do the work. Last week I needed to have Roman blinds removed and then put back up as the building replaced all the windows. I called Gil at Day Light because he installed the blinds to start and did a perfect job. I do mean perfect. His quote was not the cheapest, but in the end he solved a serious problem when the window replacement didn't allow for the same installation space. When we first arranged for the blinds, they were expensive. I wanted something that looked great and would last for years. They definitely enhance the entire apartment and are worth every penny. Not only are the blinds great, but Gil's installation was exceptional and I'm hard to please. That he came out and made sure the blinds will still look great for years to come proved picking Day Light was the best decision. We're jumping on the Gil bandwagon. :) We live in a new construction condo that has a number of unique architectural features - as such, it makes things like window treatments more difficult than they usually are. We had done some research on what types of window treatments we would like, and we had settled on a couple of product choices we thought would work for us. Gil came in for the consultation, and pretty much right off the bat said he wouldn't recommend the choice we had made, not only because of the technical difficulties of applying that type of window treatment to our windows, but also because he said the product was actually not that well-made and breaks down pretty quickly (mind you, this product was from a top-name manufacturer). So even though I was a bit let down that the product we spent some time choosing wasn't going to work, we certainly did appreciate Gil's straight-forwardness in telling us so. He then worked with us to figure out what WOULD work and what he thought would look nice, given our basic requirements of privacy, some sun-blocking (while still being able to see our view), and a modern style. We were planning for window treatments for 3 rooms all at the same time, and to add a slightly different feel to each room, we decided on 3 different types of window treatments. We got solar shade panels that open and close horizontally in our kitchen / living room, motorized shades in our 2nd bedroom / office, and dual-layer blackout drapes in our master bedroom (they cover the whole wall and go all the way from ceiling to floor - very dramatic!). We were also looking for a motorized option for the living room / kitchen, and he said he just wouldn't recommend it due to the motor being quite large for that setup (and thus would have been difficult to place), as well as the cost being an extra $3,000 - point taken! Gil performed all the careful measurements at this time (and that's when we learned fun facts like how our walls / ceilings were not entirely straight, lol). Being an interior decorator, Gil was able to guide us to the right choices in color and fabric, while also helping us figure out what our options were in terms of what type of treatments would work for each room. It can be difficult to marry up 3 peoples' tastes across 3 different rooms, but we got it done, and by the time he left, we were excited for the install! We then waited approx. 3 weeks for all of our stuff to arrive at Day Light, since everything had to be custom cut, etc. We received a call from Day Light to schedule the installation, and it was on! Gil arrived with an assistant, their supplies, and all their tools, and got to work. I went into my office and did some work, and before I knew it, they were calling me out to check out the results in the living room / kitchen. It looked awesome! And it made the room much darker, while still allowing us to look outside, and yet completely obscuring the view from the outside looking in. Exactly what we wanted. They then moved to my office, then our master bedroom - the last 2 seemed to go quicker than the 1st. Everything came out beautifully - we're very happy with the results, and we're very happy that the Yelp community led us to Gil and Day Light. We'd do it all over again if we had to. Last little thing - Gil has assured us that if anything were to go wrong, all we'd have to do is give a call and he will address it for us - no need for us to go trying to fiddle with things to fix them ourselves. First, let me say that I'm not much of an online review participator. I scrutinize, absorb commentary, and decide. Well, I had to change policy due to my selection of, and experience with Day Light Window Treatments. Background: My lovely apartment has been "shadefully neglected," meaning that the Home Depot eggshell blinds have been my standard, and I finally came to the obvious conclusion that a professional job with something of quality would make the difference. Middle Point of Story: procrastinate, procrastinate, pretend my crappy installation is OK. Then, my landlord finally put in new windows that enabled us to stop our indoor camping years, and required that I remove my bad blind job. I realized I needed some help. Day Light Highlights: Like many of you, I used Yelp and settled on them eventually. Gil is really to be respected. My type of person to do business with. Eye for design, and color implications, knows his stuff, honest, great attitude. I actually have a fine art degree, but if it's not on an enclosed canvas, I get overwhelmed, and I couldn't install a hot dog on a barbecue. He efficiently helped me sort it out, and I came to a decision I love (cherryish wood blinds). Then we ordered the blinds, and set the appointment (which was today). Absolutely outstanding work by Gill and his team! I asked him to install blinds for 9 windows and curtains for 4 windows. A previous "curtain expert" (who shall remain nameless) had completely messed up and left us, after a year of work, with almost unusable and badly made curtains. Gill came, took the measurements and made some great proposals in regard to materials and colors. Ten minutes later we had taken the respective decisions; five minutes after that Gill had calculated the price and we gave him our OK and a check. Right then the work started for good. A few weeks later, exactly according to his timeline, the blinds were ready and Gill came to install them. They were true high-quality work, the dimensions and installation were perfect, everything was first-rate. A few weeks later also the curtains were ready: same thing here. The installation was done in one day; Gill and his team cleaned up after them, leaving our home absolutely transformed. We requested blackout shades and thanks to the perfect measurements and installation, the black-out effect has been achieved to perfection. I cannot recommend Day Light Window Treatments highly enough. Just save yourself the detour with a mediocre curtain installer and go right to Gill.
