Dawg Paradise was not what we expected We drove 25 miles because of the site's reviews and the supposed access to camera views. We rented two suites and could not access either. Also, the dogs were supposed to be bathed but yo the contrary----were smelley when they arrived home. To add insult to injury, all four dogs ended up with kennel cough even though they had their shots. Finally, after not having access to cameras, one would expect reports or some documentation but we got nothing but thr expensive voice and them vet bills for the kennel cough! NEVER AGAIN will we subject our dogs to this! read more

I would not suggest that you board your dog here, especially if you believe in service recovery. I boarded my two dogs with Dawg Paradise a couple of weeks ago. While in their care, another dog at the facility attacked one of my dogs. I was not informed of the attack until after my dogs were dropped back off to me a week later. The owner stated that she didn't want to ruin my vacation. While I can appreciate that, these are my babies, and I have a right to know and demand to know if any harm befalls them. After the attack, my dog was given a bath but never taken to the vet. The reasoning for this was that the attack happened at six in the evening, and the only vet open was the emergency clinic, which would have been too expensive. Instead, the owner gave my dog leftover medication from her dogs. Again, I am not heartless and can appreciate the effort put forth. However, upon seeing my vet after my dogs were returned to me, they stated unknown medications should never be given to dogs as one never knows if they might have an adverse reaction due to underlying conditions. They also stated that my dog should have been taken to a vet immediately since they were in the care of Dawg Paradise. Moving on, it was reported to my husband and me that the only wound sustained was at the base of my dog's neck, which was a small puncture approximately 1/8" - 1/4" in size and a cut similar to a paper cut on his ear. When I came home to see my dogs after they were delivered back to me, I felt several large lumps on my dog's neck. I was told that the Dawg Paradise groomer stated these were wounds from my dog scratching himself. The vet firmly denied this and stated they were definitely bite wounds. When I showed pictures to the owner, she said, "Oh, we didn't see those." My question is, "How could you miss them?" Another issue was that they allowed me to pay over the phone in full and did not tell me about the incident. When I asked about this, the owner stated that the employee who took my payment did not know about the incident. "How?" Dawg Paradise is not very large, and you were treating wounds for a week. If that is the case, there is horrible communication there. In light of all of this, I asked for my injured dog's stay to be refunded, which the owner refused to do. She stated that if I decided to take my dog to the vet, she would apply the amount of the vet bill to a future stay. Why on earth would I want to take my dogs back there? I did take my dog to the vet, who, given the circumstances did not charge me. I brought this to the owner's attention, and she still refuses to compensate me in any way, stating, ..."I understand that it was an unfortunate occurrence, but we did take care of Jake, and you didn't have to spend any additional money on vet bills." The owner has stated she is open to discussing things further if I meet her in person. However, at this point, if I have to jump through hoops, I don't see the point. I do not believe that I am an unreasonable person and don't believe I am asking for anything unreasonable. Think if it was your dog. Also, this is not the first time something like this has happened at Dawg Paradise. My husband's ex-wife boarded her dog there, and a larger dog got into the area where it was, attacked it, and killed it. I thought this was a horrific accident, but now I can only assume the staff is negligent or they need to upgrade the latches on their fences. This is not meant to be a hateful review but rather a cautionary tale. Understand the possibility of what you could be getting into if you board your dogs at Dawg Paradise. *Note that the pictures were taken a week after the incident* read more

A family friend's dog was attacked while staying at this boarder. Boarder did not call the vet and did not alert the family. They only found out while picking the dog up. They are refusing to refund and instead are insisting on providing credit in place of it. Take your animals elsewhere if you intend on boarding them. We believe it was the owner's dogs that attacked the dog and in place of medical attention they gave them medication from their dogs. read more

Everything sounded great when we visited, but the actual boarding experience was much different. Every time I checked in on my dog he was in his crate and never saw any dogs outside. We picked him up at 10:30 am, but at that time he still hadn't been outside to potty that day. He was howling in his suite cause he had to go so bad, he immediately ran outside to pee and poop. This is definitely not okay, as they told us they started the potty routine at 4 am, then how can our dog still not have been out 6,5 hours later! Will never go back here read more

The care and love there is just like home.. They have a large area to sleep play and another area to walk through to another side.. Max gets all excited when we take him there .. A great caring loving experience.. For them to to let you view your dog during their stay says a lot about their confidence in the care your dog receives... Dawg Paradise = paradise for dogs and peace of mind for their humans. Annette and Laurie (who own and operate Dawg Paradise) are two of the most wonderful, kind, generous and friendly people and animal lovers I've ever known. Dogs in our family, including a Dachshund with many special needs/health issues, have stayed at Dawg Paradise dozens of times, including for extended periods while we were traveling, out of town for school, etc. and every time, it's been a great experience. Dawg Paradise's facilities are newly remodeled/expanded to include even more space and a big swimming pool for dogs of any size to enjoy for fun or use for health rehabilitation. There are webcams available 24/7 (accessible online with a username and password provided when you check in) and provide excellent peace of mind, knowing you can check on your dogs and see how they are doing anytime. The facilities are spacious, clean, and super fancy, for even the most discerning of pups, with beds/couches for the dogs, TVs to help them feel at home, a fenced-in back area and more. Rehab/therapy and grooming services are also available onsite. Annette, Laurie and the Dawg Paradise staff have gone above and beyond for our dogs on numerous occasions, dealing with post-surgical rehab, difficulties using the facilities (they are trained in care for paralyzed dogs/how to express dogs that cannot control their bowel/bladder functions, if that is a concern for your dog), complicated food and medication schedules/requirements and more. Every time our dogs come back from Dawg Paradise, they are tired and happy. I highly recommend Dawg Paradise. read more

Extremely happy -- our two dachshunds were well cared for. Our daughter used to be able to watch the dogs when we went out of town, but since she's moved, she no longer can. Our dogs HATE being boarded at veterinary clinics and one gets stressed to the point to where he loses his hair. Thank goodness for Dawg Paradise. While I was out of town, whenever I called, the staff was able to give me detailed information on how the dogs were doing -- our dogs adapted quite well and socialized well with the other dogs (unusual for our oldest dog, but he did great). Oldest dog showed no signs of stress whatsoever. Both dogs also ate well from the start -- they have a tendency not to eat if not happy with their surroundings. Our youngest dachshund used the swimming pool. It gave him extra exercise. (Oldest cannot use it, alas.) I especially like having access to a web cam 24/7 so I can see what the dogs are doing whenever I like. Dawg Paradise is SUPER clean and well-kept. Smells fresh and not like dogs. We used them for the first time this summer and are using them again this summer. We've also booked a stay during the fall. This is now our go-to place for doggy love boarding. We also used another, similar boarding place in Illinois. We liked it too, for many of the same reasons, especially the personalized attention . . . but the prices at Dawg Paradise are better and the location is more convenient for us. Add to it the web cam and a pool for extra exercise (great in winter). . . and I like the lay-out of the rooms. The rooms at Dawg Paradise have double glass doors, so when the dogs are in their rooms, they can see what's going on around them and do not feel closed in. This also allows the web cam to see inside the room. A nice feature. Both dogs stayed in the same room -- there's PLENTY of room, and they loved the bed. Oh yes, there's also a TV in the room (good grief, the dogs live better than I do)! While some of the amenities may seem over-the-top, they truly are a caring, wonderful way to help your dog feel at home. read more

I can't say enough good things about them. The people are wonderful and treat your pet like they are their babies. We adopted a dog from the animal shelter after Dawg Paradise rescued her and kept her at their facility for adoption. She was completely rehabilitated by them and has made our family complete. They have also suggested the best products ever made like the only chew bone and brush that have ever worked. They bath their dogs in a whirl pool tub and one of the best things we enjoy about our new dog is how much she loves the water. read more

We've used Dawg Paradise 5 times now, since our other Boarding facility closed in early 2014. Our senior dog loves going there and he always comes home healthy and happy. They have an outdoor area where different sized dogs can be grouped together. Also, they will group the same temperament together. Our little guy is old and doesn't really play anymore, and they always know who he can be paired with when he's outside at play. Annette and Laurie are Animal Lovers and very easy to work with! We recently had occasion to travel to the Michigan City area, and needed to board our beagle for the weekend. Having never used a boarding service in the area before, we looked around for recommendations. Happily, we were referred to Dawg Paradise by one of the veterinarians in the area. We can't say enough good things about both the facilities and the owners. When we arrived, Annette took us directly to the room that our pet would be staying (we didn't even have to ask to take a tour). When she led us back to the kennel area (if you could even call it that), I could see why she was anxious to show it off. The purpose-built facility was built from the ground up late last year, (opening in May of this year). It features and indoor play area, a pool (!), and large kennels with a bed and TV for entertainment! (This place looks better than some hotels I've stayed in!). There is of course a webcam, so you can check on poochie from anyplace in the world. Further, someone is on premise 24 hours a day. Since our pet has some issues with separation anxiety, we were somewhat concerned about leaving him, but he seemed very well adjusted when we came to pick him up. Further, they accommodated our schedule for Sunday pickup. Very highly recommended. Wish they were in Chicago! read more

Best place to board your pet. My dog has been going there once or twice a year since it opened. We love that we can check on him with cameras and hes a tv watcher so that is a plus. Dawg Paradise is wonderful and treat your pets like they are family. They greet my dog by name and make sure she is happy and loved while we are away. She gets to go swimming,play with other dogs, watch tv and sleep on a real bed...life doesn't get much better. She gets so excited when we pull in the parking lot, it makes me feel good knowing she will enjoy her vacation as much as we will enjoy ours. This place is a 45 minute drive from our house one way, but we were willing to make it if it was what everybody said in the reviews. The place looks perfect, indoor pool and indoor play room as well as outdoor runs. The staff seemed friendly and everything looked really good. we made a reservation for a week of boarding for our two dogs. My wife decided to drop them off a couple of times for day care to get them used to going there. On a rainy day my wife took them there in the morning so they could play and burn off some energy, being such a long drive she hung around close by. She went back after an hour to check on them and they were still penned, she came back at the 3 hour mark and still penned. She asked when were they going to get out and play, she could have left them at home where they had run of the entire house if she knew what was happening. They stated they had to clean. Why not clean earlier in the morning before the dogs get there? My wife then asked about the swimming part and they seemed annoyed but said they were going to do it. My wife bought 2 life vests, a large and a medium. They tried to put the medium on the larger dog and when it didn't fit seemed even more annoyed. They made it sound like they would be gentle and ease the dogs into the pool and show them how to get out. My wife witnessed and videoed our poo Molly dragged across the concrete/floor and literally thrown into the pool, our other poor dog also thrown in. instead of patiently showing/pushing them towards the shallow end or where they could get out, Cody was yanked by the back of the life vest out the side of the pool. If I had witnessed my dogs treated like this, I would have been screaming at the idiots for the way they treated our babies. My wife was patient and payed $50.00 to have our babies badly mistreated. I cancelled our reservation and have never returned. Maybe this was a bad day, but we can't risk another bad day. Let the buyer beware, come back and check on your dog unexpectedly and see just how good things are. I was originally sold on the place, but am still angry when I think of the treatment my dogs endured and now they will be scared of the water thanks to them. Take a closer look! read more
