April's greeting is always welcome. Great dependable location for a meal or for provisions. Caveat: several provisions may require a day's notice. Absolute great deli worth visiting several times. read more

Davis's Big Belly Deli - Delis Near Me - Davis, West Virginia

Awful experience. Greeted with snarky remarks. There was zero sanitation behind the counter. I watched the gentleman prepare food behind the counter. He pulled out a zucchini with MOLD all over it... cut off the moldy parts and continued to serve the rest. No gloves. Cross contamination. Over priced! This place needs a visit from the FDA. read more

This place is horrible. I usually prefer the person making my food washes their hands or wears gloves. I get that that's a high bar. The conversation was odd and uncomfortable. I probably won't go back. Whole place was cluttered and dirty. I've had a better $40 lunch(two ppl). read more

Big Belly Deli makes some delicious sandwiches! I got the Girl's Dream, and it was top notch! The vibe here is kind of a dive / hidden gem. The inside of the deli is really dark, and they have this little dimly lit lounge with booths tables and maps of Dolly Sods on the wall. The man running the restaurant was very friendly and chatty. He was training someone new, and she was doing a great job. Both my husband and I were very pleased with our sandwiches here! I would recommend stopping here when traveling to Davis. Also, most restaurants and eateries were closed on Monday in Davis and Thomas, so we appreciated that Big Belly was open! read more

If you need some lunch in Davis, this is a good place to go. Easy ordering of good food to keep you fueled for some outdoor adventures. Grill-based sandwiches (fired up right in front of you) is the main fare, but there are lots of fresh veggies too. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. It isn't the fanciest place in the world, but it's straightforward, fun vibe suits Davis right down to its bones. Definitely recommend. The only negative is that portions could be a bit bigger. read more

First the Entrance into the place seemed like it was abandoned. Greeted with a bewildered look like why you are here. Person who took our order appeared bored and wasnt friendly. The lady making the sandwiches didnt wear gloves and using raw food on cutting boards that she used to prepare other items. Food was way over priced for the amount of food you get. Would not recommend this place. Place seemed more for the locals. We only went here because Sirianni's didnt take debit or credit. Luckily no food poisoning! Thank God read more

BLT was meh. Brown wilted lettuce and pale white mealy tomatoes. Maybe the worst ever BLT. The Dead Parrot was ok but prob would not order again. The Reds Barnyard was just that. Very mid. Nothing to write home about. After gathering my thoughts about this meal I will sum it up for you. Big Belly Deli needs some tender loving. Cleanliness I would rate a 1 out of 5 Friendliness I would rate a 2.7 out of 5 Food I would rate a 2.2 out of 5. If the owner is reading this I would say to them.... It doesn't take much to put some love into your establishment. Clean it up and put a little effort into making it an experience for the customer. You have a great location and good idea but people want some bang for their buck and there is not bang when it comes to this whole experience. Hire some friendly loving faces and someone who cares about what they are doing. You have prime location but lack the love and that's exactly what this place needs. The younger kid who took my order needs some people skills if he's gonna be your frontman. Good luck and I wish you well. ***Update*** 20 min post sandwich intake I had major stomach explosion. Almost didn't make it to a porcelain throne but I did with absolutely no time to spare. read more

Sandwiches are great. Meat is very lean. Had a great conversation with the gentleman that was cooking once we broke the ice. We went twice while we were in town. read more

If you come in within the last hour of their business hours, just don't bother unless you want to be spoken to like you're a complete idiot. The guy working made at least 4 passive aggressive comments about serving us so close to their closing time and overall was extremely rude and made our time there very uncomfortable. I regret ever setting foot in there, will not be returning. Food was just average, nothing special. Thought I was supporting a small business but after that interaction, I'll just go to subway next time. read more

Trying times still during Covid. The service was fantastic and the food was good as well. There is plenty of space to sit down at a table inside. The food was served in to-go packaging, so you can sit inside at a table to eat or take it with you and maybe find a place outside to eat if you like. The prices are reasonable. It's worth a stop if you are in the mood for a good sandwich while driving through Davis. There was just 2 of us and our sandwiches were ready in about 5-8 minutes after ordering. They are using clear plastic shower curtains to protect their employees. Whatever decision a business makes to help their staff feel safer during this time is not a bad thing. read more

To understate this by a mile- The owner never got the pamphlet on customer service. If you enjoy being talked to like you're stupid, stop in! read more

A great place to pick up a takeout sandwich. Eat-in space is dark and lacking in ambience, sort of a hippie dive bar feel. . The menu is extensive with several interesting vegetarian options. I tried the vegetarian reuben and my partner tried the hummus wrap. Both were excellent! Staff are friendly and helpful about local events and opportunities. We waited close to 30 minutes for the sandwiches, but if you're not in a hurry, is definitely worth the wait. read more

It was a nice morning with still a dusting of snow on the ground so I went for a walk in Davis, and since I was hungry I thought to stop in at the Big Belly Deli. This was not my first visit. I got a tasty sandwich 3 years ago or so. Today's breakfast sandwich, the BLT was just as good! Joey welcomed me as soon as I entered, took my order and went right to making my sandwich. April who also works there was super friendly and we had a very interesting chat. This is a really neat little place and it is the perfect spot for stopping in to get a rapidly well-made sandwich. I'll certainly come again. read more

This place was amazing. So friendly. Definitely local as well. Our sandwiches were delicious. The funny thing is we can't remember what we had. Just the greatness of it. read more

Food was okay, but waaay over priced. Ambience was less than appealing. Person who took our order was super nice, but that was the only positive. Would not recommend. read more

Yummy! We had originally picked another place to eat but it was closed so we ended up here. I'm so glad we did! Had the Dead Parrot sandwich. It was finger licking good! Super nice people running the place. You can see by the looks of "The Lounge" (where you sit to eat) there is a lot of character at the place. read more

Great little sandwich shop just before State Park. Fresh cut deli meat made to order!

I had the Reuben which was very good! Nice and friendly staff. We sat at a small table on sidewalk in front because it was a beautiful day. I can't comment on the inside seating. I will go back! read more

Very good sandwiches (at very good prices) and a relaxed, friendly vibe. We will visit again when in Davis!

Yum! Go here for lunch. You're welcome. I should have taken a picture of what we ordered, but by the time I thought of it we were done and my picture would have been of a clean plate. Our party of 6, 2 kids - 4 adults, ate every bite of what we ordered. Quality ingredients - perfect picnic lunch to take anywhere in the area. Great selection and I don't think you can go wrong with anything you get. read more

My short review is "absolutely yummy". I got the veggie Rubin. It was delicious. The owner/chef was very personable and fun to talk with. She knows she likes to talk because she has a sign in front of her station that basically says - I like to talk but if you want your food please go see the cashier thank you. read more

Great place for sandwiches on the go! They have some good vegetarian options too! I've been here a many times to get set for lunch while on a hike and they set me up very nicely read more

The 12 dollar Reuben sandwich was delicious. The store kitchen looked very dirty, and un-appetizing. My GFs sandwich was the size of a slider; very greasy, soggy yet dry at the same time. Definitely not worth $12. But the worst part was the sandwich maker... rude and a vibe kill. read more

The food is really good and the people are even better. One of a kind place. If you are ever in the area, it's absolutely worth stopping by.

My husband and I grabbed a sandwich here prior to leaving for home. At this time, they have a window you walk up to where you place your order and another window for pick up as they are take out only. They have a small table with paper menus that you may look at prior to ordering. I ended up getting The Girl's Dream which was warmed turkey, swiss cheese, and sauteed onions with a chipotle aoli served on my choice of whole wheat bread. The meat was stacked high on the sandwich, the bread was browned/toasted and the onions added a whole other level of flavor. I did not taste much of the cheese or aoli but that was ok with me. For an extra $2 I added a 12 oz bowl of soup. Their soup of the day was a curried carrot butternut squash soup which to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed! The curry was subtle, the pureed squash made it creamy and the bits of carrot provided some texture. My husband and I shared it as I could not finish it myself. The employees were quick to take our order and we had our food in a timely manner. They were quick to help us when we asked for suggestions. My only dock for this place would be the price of the sandwich based on its size, however they are not priced any higher than any other deli may be. Overall, this was a good experience and I would recommend to anyone who is searching for deli food in the Davis area! read more

Fantastic made to order hot sandwiches- perfect lunch after a 6 mile hike in Blackwater Falls state park. My hot pastrami on griddled rye was one of the best I have had, with perfectly seasoned grilled onions and piled high with lean pastrami. Plus it came with a pickle and chocolate chip cookie, all wrapped in their own compartments a single piece of foil. We picked this place because other reviewers said they had a selection of great vegetarian options. My daughter really enjoyed her mushroom and pepper veggie hot Reuben sandwich, loaded with an amazing sauerkraut. They had veggie burgers, hummus wraps and of course grilled cheese. The mound of chicken salad on someone else's sandwich also looked tasty. Best of all was the warm conversation with the staff. This place is a gem in the mountains! read more

What's up with the rude staff here on 1/15/24? Was coming in from the snowy weather and took a brief moment to knock the snow off my boots, trying to be considerate. Apparently didn't get through the cramped dark vestibule fast enough and my family got an earful from the grumpy guy working today. Mister, this mom knows a thing about good manners and you are severely lacking. Won't be returning. read more

Do not go to this deli. When you first walk in, there are plastic sheets hanging down all over the place. You feel like you are in a horror show. The people are behind plastic sheets, the owner is incredibly rude, yells at people. Promptly left, no desire to be in an episode of something you would see on tv. Far beyond a welcoming environment. Scary! We are all in the _pandemic together, choose love, Not fear. read more

Everything from burgers to deli sandwiches and even grilled cheese. I had the chicken salad and it was delicious. Homemade and everything was fresh. Sandwiches all come with the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. Cool little place. Definitely a must when in Davis for lunch. Ok went back a 2Nd time. Such a tasty pepperoni roll. Plus all their sids are homemade. Coleslaw and macaroni salad amazing. Soooooo good. Plus very reasonably priced. read more

Was greeted by an obnoxious older gentleman who thought he was funny, but he certainly was not. The price was high for the 2 sandwiches we ordered. I make a better BLT at home. Was served on store bought white bread, with a half slice of tomato. Very disappointed & would not recommend at all. read more

The food was really good; however, the service was very slow. And the workers were very rude. I ordered online and they said 25 minutes--we got to the deli and waiter another 30. There were two workers when there should easily have been twice as many to handle the crowd. When I arrived at the pick up window the man told me to back off pretty aggressively, which took me by surprise. Additionally the other worker told my brother in law that he was being "ridiculous"when asking for the hummus that was supposed to be on my sister's sandwich. Overall, food was good the service was atrocious. read more

The food is a little flat, and at around $12 a person, it doesn't feel like a great deal. There's a small dining room, but it gets kind of cramped if more than two groups are there. We were there at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday, and this place was the only thing open for miles. It was certainly better than nothing. read more

What a waste of time and money. We were the only customers and it still took 25 minutes to get our sandwiches. Which we promptly threw out. Soggy tomatoes, wilted lettuce and wet deli meat. None of our sandwiches were done correctly either. Wrong bread, cheese etc. Not to mention that as we all deal with concerns of COVID, no one was wearing gloves as they prepared our sandwiches. Gross! Do not go here. read more

Hummus wrap with smoked turkey - that pepper slaw is amazing - one of the best things I ate in WV. Cute old store - nice staff. Huge portions! Great sandwich to fuel up for a long hike, so big I had half left for after the hike! read more

Do not order the Italian sub! Bread was nasty and lettuce wilted. Pickle spear was wrapped together with the cookie which made them both taste nasty and old. The Messy Becky was fair. As far as service, we were the only people there and it took 25+ minutes to prepare the sandwiches. We asked for some extra Italian dressing and the response from the cook was super rude. Stated that she had already given us more than enough and that she was almost out so was saving it for another customer. Will never eat there again and do not recommend this place to anyone. Only reason they get business is bc they are the only place open in town on Tuesday's. Avoid at all costs! read more

Not good. Staff was friendly but my house made black bean burger was basically a pile of mush on a soggy bun. Yuck!

The lady who works here is stellar! Great service and conversation. I wasn't feeling great, so I just got a bag of chips and a Powerade, but my partner ordered a Rachel with pepper slaw. Even though I didn't order a sandwich, she gave us two cookies and two pickles. It's little gestures like this that make me rave about a place and go back. read more

There are many Deli Restaurants where the exterior is inviting but the food and service disappoint. And then there are those like the Big Belly Deli where the exterior is tired but the food is absolutely delicious and the staff warm and genuine. The Hot Pastrami I had was moist and flavoursome - the best I've had. My wife had the Messy Becky made up of Roast Beef topped with horseradish cheese, sautéed mushrooms & onions, and was equally impressed. The young couple who operate it are delightful. The food deserves a 6 out of 5. read more
