DAVIS SERVICES - BUSINESS PRACTICES PAIN AND $$$MATH ADD UP TO: AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! Mitsubishi Mini Split stopped working properly. Originally installed by Davis Services 4.5 yrs ago ($5k). Unit is still under Mitsubishi 10 year parts warranty. First Tech from Davis broke the blower wheel taking temperatures attempting to diagnose. Davis replaced (no charge) blower wheel. 2nd Tech indicated low on refrigerant and suggested a leak check ($275). Found leak in coil. Go Figure... Gave quote of dollar figure only to replace coil ($1380). First request to Davis Services - Service Manager (Bobby Bevill) response indicated no written quote available and that I would likely bare the partial or full cost of the replacement part on top of the $1380 'quote' - insinuating because I did not purchase the Service program from Davis Services when installed new, Mitsubishi would deny the replacement part claim due to lack of proper maintenance activities/records. Multiple emails back and forth with Davis Services and Mitsubishi Electric Americas (MEA)... MEA would not provide the warranted part directly to the me, the customer (not stipulated in the Warranty documentation), only through to a certified HVAC technician. MEA suggested their Diam0nd Pro Service folks as listed on the MEA website for their Mini-Splits. There are 2 listed in 'my area' including Davis Services, the other in Charleston - 4 hours away... Davis services ordered the part when I requested to 'proceed' and contacted me when it came in to schedule the install. I asked that I pick up the part and they said no, they would have to install it. Service Manager returned the part - 'hoping to get a refund from the Mitsubishi Parts Dealer'. FYI - MEA says they provide training, testing and certification for their recommended Diamond Pro representatives. However, they do not seem to provide any business practice oversight to ensure they aren't losing Mitsubishi customers.... Arbitration is a $2000 buy in fee, non refundable, up front going through MEA arbitration rules. So, pursuing Breach of Warranty isn't a viable option. MEA told me to find another contractor with a more suitable price to find the leak and submit a request for a replacement part........... So, I am told by the Diamond Pro Mitsubishi recommended dealer that THEY likely cannot get a replacement part (for $0.00 under warranty, without 'maintenance records'), so what is the possibility of non Mitsubishi related HVAC tech can get a part covered under warranty for zero cost??? FYI: The WARRANTY maintenance requirements are to keep the filters clean (and coils likely, but I don't recall right now....). New Mitsubishi unit from www site HVAC Direct (same size etc.) less than $1k delivered to my door (without discount ~$1500 to my door). Note MEA indicated they would not warranty a system sold by HVAC Direct although the HVAC Direct www site indicates the unit would come with a warranty. New Mitsubishi coil purchased online for less than $400 shipped to my door. I spent less than 4 hours total to install new coil (I am not HVAC certified nor do I have any experience repairing Mitsubishi Mini Split systems). Vacuumed unit down, certified HVAC guy referred to me by a coworker: $85/lb for refrigerant, plus $85 service call - total $340. I fixed for $740 (vs quote of $1380 with no idea if that quote included vacuum, refrigerant etc.) AFTER PURCHASING THE PART OUT OF POCKET!!! I've probably voided the overall warranty, but at this point it doesn't seem to matter. In retrospect, I should have purchased the new entire unit and just swapped it out myself (not overly difficult) and would have had a ton of spare parts (ie. no parts warranty required!!!) and STILL less than Davis Service's quote to fix!!!!!!!! read more

We called Davis when our hot water heater exploded and we needed a new one. The previous home owner put a hole in the deck in order to allow access to the crawlspace. She shouldn't have even put in a deck because they were unable to get the old hot water heater out of the hole. We had to put in an aquahut. It was expensive (though we got three quotes and they were all expensive) and now we have an eyesore on the outside of the house but the work was efficient, timely, and there is hot water so we can't complain. The person who quoted us was a little sexist because he mostly talked to my partner (male) instead of me regarding home repairs. read more

Not real happy!! $75 service call, which is NOT applied to the work. Having the exact same issue with my heat as last year, do they tell the tech what was done, or forward last year's work NO! I tell the tech when got here it was doing the same thing as before (9 months ago). Charges me an additional $66 to check for an electrical short, then comes back and tells me it is the valve they replaced!!! Took a week to get the part, under warranty. No charge for return trip. I guess not since you already got $141.00. My $66 should be refunded, the technician should of checked what I said since it was doing the exact same thing! I feel you ripped me off Davis. To top all this off, ... I also paid for the "cleaning " program no appointments available until December!! You've got to kidding me. Temperatures are dropping now, while the technician was here, he could have should have completed the service. So, now I have to wait another month!! read more

Had a slow leak according to Spartanburg Water. Decided to try Davis Services since we had good experience with them in the past for HVAC. Receptionist very helpful and got us scheduled for service the next day. She called back and said they could come out same day because of a cancellation. The technician Woodrow was knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Excellent communication, work not rushed. His advice was solid. Price reasonable with no added or hidden charges. I will definitely use Davis for plumbing again. read more

Davis came out to trouble shoot a six month old Goodman Hvac. They sent a skilled Tech Bruce that did a good job repairing it. They charged $800 to thaw out the unit and $2200 to repair it. They then asked me to pay them an additional $200 in order for them to file with Goodman and get my reimbursement on a $1200 Coil. I would be sent back this money. Well when I called to ask when I'd receive my warrantied Coil money back of $1200 I was told they kept it because I owed them $1200 to place the Coil on the unit. I then called and spoke to the original owner's son named Brian Davis. He explained that he kept my warranty refund because it cost that to repair my unit. I was still not satisfied with his explanation so I drove from Greenville to his office in Boiling Springs to get a better understanding of why I was charged $3200 plus $1200 to replace a warrantied coil. Brian was seated behind a huge wood desk that you'd normally see in an attorneys office with Clemson paraphernalia every where. He reminded me of a shady used car salesman. He gave me a $20 City Range gift card and gave me a long speal of why it cost $4400 to repair my unit. He spoke to me as if I were not even a Ninth Grade graduate. Failing to realize that I was an educated woman. Eight weeks passed and my unit stoped working again. I contacted Brian Davis again making him aware of the fact that it had stopped working again. He told me that my coil was only warrantied for 30 days. And the paper work clearly stated that I had a year warranty on the coil. During this phone conversation he talked about "who did you have install it ?" He told me " I bet I have more education than you. " I then told him he was gas lighting me. He then asked what that meant ? I responded by saying " it's when a person speaks of everything but the subject at hand. " Do Not Use this company !! I was told the original owner was a man of Character however his son Brian Davis who has taken over should be ashamed of price gouging and being unscrupulous !!!!!! read more

Over priced!! Couldn't figure out a simple plumbing problem. I had to hire another plumber who charged me 1/3 of what they did. Beware of what you are signing!! Called manager to complain and was told he stood by his plumbers and would not refund me any money. Once you sign their electronic signature, that's it. They do not stand by their work or make sure customer is satisfied. I found a new plumber that fixed my problem and that was all I wanted. read more

Today I have decided to cancel my service contract with Davis Services. My mother also has a service contract. They misdiagnosed my mother's heat pump with a coolant/freon leak and told her that she needed new system and wanted to charge her over $8,000 for a new system for a 1800 sq ft home. We got a second opinion and this technician said there was nothing wrong with the compressor and no leaks. It may have been a wrongly set thermostat. Now my mother having a problem with her heat pump and Davis is refusing to come out and fix the issue. They said that she canceled the new heat pump install and they will no longer work on the heat pump even if it is a blower motor that is not working. Beware of them if you are elderly. They will try to take advantage of you. read more

Wish I would have read the reviews before I called. Guy came out late charged 219 to do nothing. 40 to cut a weed out. Tried to charge 1500 to fix things that were not even wrong. He left and I paid 219 for nothing . Called another company out they fixed it for 150. It did not need any of the things Davis was trying to charge me for. A bunch of crooks. I would not give them any stars but had to pick one before it would let me submit. read more

I terminated Davis Services last summer after terrible service. I spoke to the manager then and he was amazingly rude to me. They keep charging my credit card and I cant get them to stop. I have written and called. I have employed a new company to service my furnace. The people they sent to my house did not leave it in the same condition they found it.They turned the air way down and all the windows were open. They didn't bother to put the thermostat back as they found it and our house was cooled for with all windows open for hours before I found it . When I called they said it was my problem. They left doors open and the furnace room open too. I do not recommend this company. Please ignore their fancy advertising on TV. read more

We had a Lennox unit installed in July/August of 2017. Over this past weekend the heat stopped working. When I called Davis Services they said we had not purchased a maintenance plan so the warranty was not longer valid. We had never been offered a maintenance plan. I could not understand why you have to buy a maintenance plan on a brand new unit. They did send a service technician and he looked at the unit and told us it needed a part and that we would have to purchase a maintenance plan back to when we purchased the unit but the part would not be under warranty. He wanted $900.00 to work on the unit and $89 for the service call. He kept insisting on up-selling us. My husband had to ask him to leave our property. I called Lennox today and they said the part was under warranty and we could start the maintenance plan now. We called a different service company and he picked up the part under warranty and will be installing it for $150.00. I will never, ever use Davis Services again. read more

Last year, our longtime heating and air man retired, and we called Davis to service two mini-split units that weren't performing well. The service was great, but the serviceman found a coolant link in one unit and recommended replacement of both. (They were the same age.) He referred us to a sales guy for a quote. The sales person offered a quote--a good quote. For major purchases, we make it a practice to ask for a second quote and got it. We opted to replace only one of the two units and to go with the other company. My husband was dealing with the salesperson last year, and he recalls that part of the reason was a comparable price and part of it was general attitude of the Davis salesperson and the Davis person's resistance to offering a written quote as opposed to a verbal one. This year, in the first heat wave, it became apparent that the second unit will need replacing. We called the same two companies, Davis and another, again in keeping with our practice of getting more than one quote for major purchases. The other company called back promptly and made an appointment to come out the same day to give an estimate. When the Davis salesman returned my call, he was instantly combative. He didn't give me time to thank him for returning my call, but launched into a speech about how we went with another company last year, and he didn't understand why we were calling. When I explained that the second unit was failing, he interrupted me to say that if the other people were cheaper, he didn't see why we were calling him again. I started to explain that we believe it is good business practice to get more than one quote, but he interrupted me. At some point, he did offer me a verbal quote, which was a reasonable price, when compared with what we paid last year. But he interrupted me again and again and then said: you can call my boss, but I've been here a long time and I'll continue to be here a long time. I explained that I had no interest in threatening his job but that he had begun the conversation in an adversarial way and that if he didn't want our business, I was fine with that. I ended the call. Instead of seeing my call as an opportunity--instead of considering that I might have been calling because I was dissatisfied with last year's contractor (I wasn't, but I could have been)--instead of thinking that perhaps he could secure us as long time customers for installation and service, he started the call with his back up. In the process, he has forever eliminated Davis Heating and Air from our list of potential service contractors. We'll go with the other company, thank you very much. read more

our toilet stopped flushing and after calling several other companies, I contacted Davis plumbing again. they did some insurance work a few months prior with good results. we also had an issue where it sounded like air was coming out of the sink faucets that we needed checked. the plumber arrived at approximately 120 pm. he checked the toilet and then it seemed like 30 minutes later, he gave us a quote for 342.00 to replace the flushing device. we asked for our military discount and even with a calculator could not figure ten percent of 342.00 which is 34.20 leaving is 307.80. I had to tell him that. he went back to the bathroom and started working and then came down and told us he did not have a part for the American standard toilet and it might be cheaper just to buy a new toilet. after a while, he left and went to Lowe's for the part and disappeared for close to 90 minuyes. Lowe's is 10 minutes from our house. he installed it and then told us the sinks needed new faucets but we had time as it was not an issue at this time. three days later, we went back to trying to use the master bath sinks again. one had no issues, whereas the cold water was turned off in one, my husband went and was going to turn it on but water was now leaking into the cabinet. called Davis to report this and their response was why did it take you three days to use that sink again and nothing else but we can come out and replace the faucets, and of course charge you big time. they did not believe their tech would turn off the water and not turn it back on nor not tell us it was leaking. we have bowls under the sink catching the water now until a new person we hired could come out next week, read more

Davis has serious problems. I had used Davis for 25 years at my office and home and was pleased. When I needed a new H/Vac for my home I called Davis and they sent out a sales fellow. All this fellow wanted to do is sell me a $12,009 unit. We have a 1500 sq. Ft home and do not need anything that big for sure. The fellow got and left my home and said nothing. He humiliated my wife and I with his obvious disdain for my decision to buy a more appropriate unit. He just got up and left. Extremely rude. I terminated my contract with Davis the next day. I am pleased to say I found an honest company with true integrity and professionalism. Davis will without a doubt try to make this incident look like I am the problem. Got jerked around.Looking for Greenville heating co. Spartanburg is just way too far when traffic on 85 is a graveyard. Very expensive. Tech offered to take $75.00 and go when I questioned prices and methods. Wanted thousands to find refrigerant leak. Need to find a system with better warranty and quality. If I could give them a big fat goose egg - no stars - I would. Know their commercials - "Feel The Davis difference"? Yeah. We felt it. In our wallets and service. They sold us freon for our downstairs unit that then leaked out, and their service guy in our attic evidently bumped that AC unit and dislodged the drain pan. Next day we had water spots all over our bedroom ceiling. I called them for answers (since we bought a service contract) and got nothing but blame and sarcasm from the Service Manager. We had Davis Services out for both repair service and to get quotes for a new A/C unit. During the repair process, it appears they temporary fixed our issue, but added another problem where we had to call them out a couple months later. There unit quotes, even with their member discount, is still over 2-3 grand more than other companies. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I was aggressively assaulted in traffic by a Davis employee. He quickly drove up behind a Toyota Corolla that was in the passing lane on Hwy 9 and forced his way over on top of me nearly hitting my car, and then when I proceeded to attempt to get his license plate number to call the company, he slammed on his brakes, trying to cause an accident. I had to swerve to avoid hitting him, and he proceeded to chase me down Hwy 9 with his high beams on screaming at me before turning off on Rainbow Lake Road. I don't know who he was, but when you're driving the company vehicle like it's a hit-to-pass racer, well, people are going to write off your company. It s sad when a previously reputable company becomes the worst. Service call for non working AC. Tech comes out who has a bad attitude and misdiagnoses the problem. Says the condensation line is clogged. Says he fixed it. $188. Two weeks later and the problem is back. Sends what they call a senior tech out who once again tells us it is the outside condensation line. Then tells us we need to spend $2400 for him to pull out the coil and clean it and install a new condensation line. But, my husband has been in the attic and looked and the drip pan is dry. Husband knows that the clog is between the unit and the drip pan. Tells the 'senior' tech and you can see his face realize he was wrong as well as the first tech. Goes up and cleans that and now we have to pay again. We cancel our Advantage plan and my husband tried repeatedly to call the service manager to let him know of the incompetence of his personnel. Can only get an answering machine and never gets called back because they no longer care about the customer. Run from this company. When they say to feel the Davis difference it is ANGER. read more

We contacted Davis for a repair job on our central air conditioner and the technician was honest and open with me about the situation. We ultimately decided to replace the entire system at a cost of just over $9K. I was generally pleased with the service as a tech came out and installed some window units so that we would have some cooling since they couldn't get to the replacement for a week. The work was done in a timely and efficient manner and we are happy with the system. The poor rating above does not reflect the work but the manner in which it was sold to us. This house is a parsonage so I am not personally responsible for the cost of this job. The salesman was told that and I was still told that it could be financed for 18 months same as cash. He did not explain that it couldn't be financed to the church or that the financing was not through Davis at all but Wells Fargo bank. Unfortunately my personal credit is not great and WF turned down our request for less than half of the total as we had paid a big chunk down. This put the church is a difficult position financially as we did not expect to have to pay the entire amount at one time. We might have done things differently had this been well explained at the beginning. read more

These guys are cooks my sister bought a unit that had gotten a leak still in parts warrenty period, Davis service tech came out charged $700.00 only charged a leaky system did not search for the leak also sold her some things she did not need. 1 month later still leaking not cooling again. This time charged the unit again knowing it had a leak I forced them to look for it, cost $359.00. 2lbs freon both times. Told us coil was bad $1350.00 and no parts warranty, I said no got a second opinion turned out to be leaky reverse valve $250.00 part and freon fixed. don't use these crooks. read more

This company does not treat customers well. They look for any chance to charge for a service call and diagnostic fee. We had to call them 3 times in 3 weeks and the last tech they had was the icing on top. Bruce came to check the thermostat out which we had just replaced and knew worked for the home for several years, and he says the thermostat is the problem. He suggests that we buy a $50 retail thermostat from him for $200 and we would be A ok. We asked if we could just buy the thermostat retail and put it in ourselves and he said no, you will blow a fuse. I asked if there was a reason that this would be wired poorly to make a new thermostat not work, but he insisted that we were incapable of doing it. When discussing pricing options I had my wife on the line and he laughed at her whenever she was trying to discuss pricing options or what was happening with the system. He then states that he has other customers to see and we can't be wasting anymore of his time. I guess we aren't customers huh? Thanks for your stellar service Bruce. I had davis come out to check a system at my rental house before the guy even looked at anything he started telling me I was going to need parts like a starter and 95.00 to clean the coils which I had cleaned two days prior. Tried basically strong arming me into a service contract. Everytime I asked him why do I need the part or why is it 110.00 a pound for Freon he laughed .....My money isn't a joke but your service is he had me up to 500.00 before he ever looked at the unit. The rating I would truly give this company is below a 0. Air went out on Friday. Unit is 3 1/2 years old part was under warranty. The lady I dealt with needs to learn courtesy. When she quoted the service price I told her I would have to call back once talking with my husband. I called back within 30 minutes had to leave message to order part. The following day I had to notify them, the same lady called but would not talk with me she hung up on me. Once she talked with my husband it was told I said the price was to high and that I hung up on her. Also told my husband they couldn't order part until they knew it would be paid for. Service charge was $568, after her comment wonder now if I paid for the part. Took 1 week to get the air back on. I have paid for 1 year service I'm asking for a refund minus 1 service read more

Our air condition did not work. A technician came and charged us $ 89 to inform us that our air condition did not work! He then recommended to have this checked for $ 240 and that checked for another couple of hundred dollars. He had no idea what was wrong and did not make an effort to find out for the $ 89. Requested a quote for new duct work in house. Salesman was very "pushy" and told us we needed additional returns installed in house (something every other company giving us quotes denied). He became visibly upset when I said no and I eventually had to tell him to leave my property. When the sales rep called me to follow up on the quote he gave me on a new AC install he had me on speaker phone I was driving my wife home from the hospital at the time which the sales rep was very sympatric about my situation I explained to him that we decided to go with another company and in the background I heard the owner of the company bad mouthing our decision we made and was not expressing any compassion at all. Very dissatisfied.Sent a technician out to my house due to my unit being froze up. The technician immediately blamed it on being low on freon. I told him that I had just had a service guy at my house the day before and he said the freon was fine, but he insisted that I call Davis Services because of warranty issues. I told the tech from Davis Services what the previous serviceman said it might be and he went with that( without ever checking).To make a long story short I did not need the very expensive part that was not under warranty. My air handler evaporator coils were dirty and stopped up. If I had listened to him I would have spent a ridiculous amount of money fixing something that was not broke. If the tech from Davis Services would have done his job he would have known this. I feel like he was trying to take advantage of me being a woman. My unit is working just fine after being cleaned no thanks to Davis Services. read more
