I wondered if it was just me, until I looked at the other reviews. I overheard the man behind the counter being a bit of a Smart Alec to the customer before me in the queue. "Well, it IS a Post Office," he said to the elderly lady who had asked - politely - if she could buy a book of stamps. Equally charming to me, I'd have to say. I was berated because a stamp was falling off my envelope. "You've torn this off another envelope," he said, and refused to accept my assurance that I had stuck the stamp on straight out of a booklet 20 minutes earlier. Unnecessarily rude and confrontational. Also, I know it's Christmas, but the queue was out of the door, and only one (awful) man serving, taking his own sweet time. Went today (Monday 21st October 2024) to return some items to Amazon. The attendant was aggressive towards me. At first we were conversing through the glass and I could not hear him well. I have a slight hearing defect. He was beckoning for me to raise my mobile so he can scan the QR code but I misunderstood his command at the start. He became annoyed in his tone. He asked me "you can't hear me"? I told him not really. It was then he turned a microphone on, I told him that was better. He then asked me to take the items out of the bag and pass them over to him. This I might say was not clearly communicated and I was trying my best to push each items under the small opening. As I have never used the service before, I did not understand that the counter could slide back to facilitate the items. Eventually, I understood what he failed to Communicate to me. He angrily pulled back the shaft and I said to him that he did not need to be that aggressive. He responded that he was not being aggressive and I reiterated that yes you were. He asked how it was that he was being aggressive and I said that your manner in pulling back the shaft and your general tone in speaking to me. He said he can pull back anyway he wants and tried to turn it around that I was the one being aggressive. I asked him politely to just continue to do his job as I did not want this to escalate any further. My problem with his behaviour is that he does not fit for working in customer service. If this was a disabled person with sensory defects, he would have totally ruined their confidence. Not every disability is visible. He needs to get retrained on how to be a customer service personnel. He was rude and condescending. I would NOT do business with this office in the future. Very unhelpful member of staff who just barked orders at me as if I were a child who had never used a post office before. I believe that another review used the term smart alec which is rather an understatement, he was purposefully openly rude. I am 55. I wanted to take a photo of the envelope to show my rather elderly mother to assure her it had been sent. I thought the bomb squad were being called the way that I was treated and told that it is illegal to take a photo of an envelope, in a manner that I wouldn't treat an animal. I asked for it back to photo it outside and he proceeded to remove the very proof that I needed the picture of. He was well aware of his actions and very intentional. This was after refusing to give me it back. I had to convince him that it was my property and therefore theft not to hand it back. By this time there were more customers so his level of rudeness dissipated but not by much. I eventually had to ask twice for the receipt as he just sat with it in his hands. Then he threw it at me. I walked out the shop in tears of frustration as all I wanted to do was assure my mum that this very important document had been mailed. I chose to use the post office as I considered it to be the best and most reliable service. I realise now how very mistaken I was and will endeavour to find alternatives in the future. read more

Agree with previous reviewer although queues can fill the little post office and the charmingly personal service isn't going to clear them quickly. Having said that, it's 100% in keeping with D Mains' village atmosphere and character. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpfully staff make it a pleasure to use. We wouldn't change it for the world. read more

The staff in this post office have a real attitude, I have experienced it on many occasions and seen other customers on the receiving end also. They need to learn to treat their customers with more respect and stop the "know it all" "in your face" attitude. Today for instance, I took a package in to post, it was a mobile phone wrapped up in a box. Having read the prohibited items list previously I knew that there are restrictions on certain types of batteries being sent by post so I removed the battery from my phone before packing. On presenting the phone at the counter I was correctly asked what was in the package and I said a mobile phone. I was then asked if there were any batteries in it to which I replied no. I was then asked if the battery had been completely removed to which I replied yes. Astonishingly, I was then immediately asked "how are you going to send the battery then?" Now, having already said that there was no battery in the package, (I was sending my phone for a glass repair which does not require the repairer to power up the phone) why would he then assume I wanted to send a battery? I can only surmise that the question was asked as he did not believe that I was not sending the battery with my phone. I'm not sure if they actually even realise the way they are treating their customers, they would do themselves a big favour by going on a decent customer relations course and learning what is acceptable and what is not when dealing with their customers. read more

I have heard the male staff here being rude to customers in the past but believed, as I hadn't heard the beginning it may be six of one etc. However I have been humiliated and insulted and refused service there today merely because I suggested to a lady in front that she could get her passport photos done at Tesco round the corner if she didn't want to wait for ten minutes for another member of staff to turn up. The 'man' behind the counter told me to stop preventing him from selling his services, I pointed out I was just trying to help the lady at which point he refused to serve me! When I questioned it he said he was in his rights to refuse. When I said he was being ridiculous I was then told I was being insulting......what do you expect when having been refused service for no good reason. I returned 10 minutes later to ask the man's name and was told I couldn't have it and asked to leave, when I refused they called the police!!! I would have been happy to wait for them but didn't really want to waste our tax payers money.I am a 53 year old lady with no threatening behaviour in my body! At the post office in Barnton, where I went and is my usual, I was upset and told them about the incident. They were completely unsurprised and said they had had loads of people comment on how rude the male staff were at Davidson Mains and there was even a lady behind me in the queue who had also experienced this terrible treatment and had boycotted the office. I don't know how they are allowed to get away with this, being very rude to general members of public because they feel like it. I intend to mount a petition to complain and see if we can get them moved out. We are not allowed to treat them badly so why are they getting away with it? Don't use this office even if your life depends on it!!! Unfortunately there are a number of pensioners that live very close and depend on it and are probably keeping it in business. read more

This used to be a lovely post office but is now sadly run by aggressive, rude and patronising staff who treat their elderly clientele and those with young children - amongst others - with utter contempt. We have seen rudeness towards older customers who couldn't grasp their awkward queuing system, aggressive up-selling to vulnerable people, nursery children being shouted at until in tears (for touching the cards) and on more than one occasion we have seen male staff yelling at female customers, even outside in the street. The PO website states the following: "Becoming a postmaster isn't for everyone, and we don't award Post Office branches to just anyone either. Modern postmasters are entrepreneurs with a strong community purpose. The most successful postmasters integrate Post Office branches into vibrant retail environments and regularly engage with their local community." The current staff are falling woefully short of this standard and seem to have nothing but contempt for the community they serve. We no longer use this PO, like many in the village, and if we could give zero stars we would. read more

If you are ever in the Davidsons Mains area and you need to get to a post office, please avoid using their postal services. I have only been there thrice in the three years that we have lived there, for a reason. The chaps who run it have been consistently rude to the elderly, and disrespectful, chauvinistic and egotistical to others. They are more interested in picking a fight and being pejorative, than providing a service when they believe anything someone says is a question or a challenge. The place isn't bustling either and even if it's busy, being polite and NOT condescending never hurt anyone. The worry is that this is most convenient for a lot of elderly folk who go in there and if they are not in a good mood, or you are not the chosen favourite, then woe betide you! Terrible customer service. Male cashier was very rude as another reviewer mentioned how they get away with speaking to their customers the way they do is beyond me. I'd recommend going elsewhere these days....ashame really- this was a friendly post office before being taking over. read more

This post office offers all the services by comparison to most of the others in the area that never seem to have any forms of any use. There is never a big queue and there is parking. The place is really old world and has a funny smell. Overall though good quick service. read more

just had another poor customer experience here, two previous visits had to be aborted due to lengthy and static queues, persevered to pick up a xmas parcel but the attitude of man of front desk was staggeringly arrogant who ridiculed a small innocent mistake in front of other customers and forced me to wait extra 5mins because i expressed dissatisfaction. he was itching to show he was in charge (of a small parcel!) and gain some feeling of power. small man syndrome encapsulated. without doubt the worst PO i've ever experienced and they're unlikely to be around for too long given this attitude and seeing other reviews, shame as the last people who ran it were super helpful. read more
