Such a great space with everything you'd need at a library. They have so many activities for kids and the staff is extremely kind !

A friend and I were wandering around downtown Lexington and when we saw a sign for this book store,…read morewe had to pop in as both of us are avid readers! The cutest little book store if I've ever seen one! It looks like they took an old house and renovated it into a book store where each room is a different genre of book. The front room has mostly newer books of all genres and memoirs. The back rooms are separated into children's book, young adult, magazines, etc. Although the books were a little pricey, I dont mind spending an extra few dollars to support a local business. The woman behind the cash register also told us if there is a book we want that they don't have, she could order it for us. Searching them on social media it also looks like they do talks with different authors every month. They had pig city books tshirts and ever since I left I've been upset I didnt get one because their logo is so cute. Just gives me a reason to return and book shop more!

All that being said Pig City books has a good selection of books particularly kids and teens. There's lots of cool reading accessories like bookmarks, stickers , pens. I felt like I was at the book fair. The owner of the store was there and was super friendly and had great vibes. I love their pink door. The prices are the same as other bookstores but I like supporting local businesses when possible.

The North Carolina Vietnam Memorial is located in the wooded area between the two rest areas here along I-85 in Thomasville NC. As with others, the memorial lists the 1620 names of those who died fighting in the "Vietnam Conflict" from North Carolina and also lists their counties. It is made from North Carolina brick. It is a short walk from either, or you can drive from the southbound one. What is relatively unique is that the highway is actually crossed over between exits 96 and 102, making each of the exits a right-lane one even though it is between the two highways. You can still hear the traffic faintly, even from inside the circle. [Review 11685 overall, 1467 of 2019.]

I took a walk down the stair to the lovely park and left a few kindness rocks behind to spread love out into the world before walking and hoping to find a few doe, alas there were no deer but there were a few bees in flowers. I walked back up. It's a lovely area, it may not be Huge and with statues but it's a somber and respectful memorial to the dead of the Vietnam conflict.

Often, the…read moremarkers point to things that are blocks or miles away so it is great to see one that is right here! The marker reads, "William Rainey Holt, 1798-1868. Physician. Advocate of scientific agriculture. His plantation "Linwood" was 6 miles southwest. Built home here, 1834." Online, there is more information. "Dr. William Rainey Holt of Davidson County was among North Carolina's most versatile men of the nineteenth century. Born in Alamance County at the Holt homeplace (today the site is the Alamance County Historical Museum), William R. Holt was the brother of textile pioneer E. M. Holt and the uncle of Gov. Thomas Holt. Graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1817, Holt studied medicine in Philadelphia and soon after his marriage in 1822 set up practice in newly created Davidson County. Dr. Holt was among Lexington's first and leading citizens and purchased his home lot at an early courthouse sale. On that lot he constructed "The Homestead," a large Greek Revival house, in 1834, soon after his second marriage. That residence today is the oldest remaining home in the town. Holt, a Democrat and secessionist who lost three sons in the Civil War, had his house occupied by Union troops in 1865." It is marker number K-56 and the driveway of the home has parking for you to stop and check it out. (And thanks to the photographer that was here for a private event and kindly stepped inside so I could get a photo!) [Review 1791 of 2024 - 3710 in North Carolina - 22814 overall]

The positive experience actually started the Friday before when I called ahead to make an appointment (which is mandatory). Surprisingly, they had a slot available for Monday afternoon, which I gladly took. The lady on the phone very kindly walked me through the process, explained everything I would need (including where to find the paperwork online in advance), and gave me directions (their new address apparently leads some GPS users to an open field). I arrived about 10 minutes early Monday, but the receptionist immediately took my paperwork and money ($90 cash, ATM across the street at the gas station), and told me to have a seat until they were ready to take my fingerprints. I was in the Sheriff's office for maybe 15 minutes total. Maybe. The lobby area, which is where I stayed except to do fingerprints was super clean and inviting with comfy places to sit. The different areas (reception, patrol, detectives) are very clearly marked overhead, which is very helpful for dummies like me! My only minor gripe is that there isn't a public restroom in the lobby and I very badly needed to get rid of a Red Bull. Oh well, as I said the process was very quick and I was out of there in no time. Thanks everyone!
