The concerns involving our family's home relate to underlying construction and system performance issues that were not visible to a homeowner during the warranty period and developed over time as a result of those conditions. These are not routine homeowner maintenance matters. Texas law provides protections beyond a builder's written warranty, including implied warranties that a home is constructed in a good and workmanlike manner and is suitable for habitation. Construction defect claims may be pursued within the applicable statutory timeframes, as many defects only become apparent after systems have operated over time. Our home remains within that legal timeframe. Since discovering the extent of the issues, we have worked cooperatively by allowing multiple inspections, providing extensive documentation and independent testing, and following professional recommendations. Based on professional findings, our home was ultimately deemed uninhabitable due to construction-related environmental conditions, and our family was forced to relocate. While certain repair options were proposed, they did not address the full scope or root causes identified by independent professionals, which is why they were not accepted. Original review: We purchased an inventory David Weekley home in 2020 and, over time, uncovered extensive construction, HVAC, ventilation, and building-envelope issues that were far beyond cosmetic. Documented issues in our home included: * A roof vent pipe that was not properly connected or sealed, allowing warm, humid air to discharge directly into the attic instead of venting outdoors. * Improperly installed and inadequately insulated attic ductwork, including ducts disconnected from collars, heavily sweating, and contributing to widespread condensation and moisture throughout the home. * Severe microbial growth inside the HVAC system, including the supply plenum. These findings were documented during an earlier HVAC visit but were not disclosed to us at the time; we only learned of them after hiring an independent mold inspector, at which point we stopped allowing further builder access. * Visible mold and moisture damage in multiple areas, including closets, door frames, behind bathtubs, and inside wall cavities. * Condensation and mold inside recessed lights, vents, and ceiling fixtures across multiple rooms. * Construction photos indicating significant foundation-related concerns that were never disclosed. * Severe exterior drainage issues that persisted despite the installation of multiple drains and have resulted in fence deterioration. * Thermo-ply sheathing in the attic that is bowed, rippled, and in some areas detaching. * Ducts that had fully separated from insulation and were profusely sweating onto ceilings. * All three attic access doors lacked proper insulation, allowing hot, humid attic air to contact cooler interior surfaces, leading to mold growth around the openings. * Extensive building-envelope failures throughout the home. Nearly every exterior door has noticeable drafts, moisture intrusion, and signs of mold. * Significant air leaks along exterior walls, including behind the refrigerator, inside electrical outlets, and where cabinetry and the bathtub meet in the primary bathroom. Borescope inspection revealed rodent droppings in these areas, indicating exterior entry points. * A certified mold detection dog alerted in every bathroom and shower. * The primary shower has severe drainage problems due to improper slope, uneven tile installation, and shallow grout. * Horizontal cracking in the tile of an upstairs shower. * The primary shower door is pulling out of the tile for the second time. It was originally installed into tile using drywall anchors with no stud behind it. Even after bracing was added following a prior failure, the door is again pulling loose. * Cracks in the primary shower wall where grout was never installed and silicone was used instead. These conditions were documented through photographs, independent inspections, HVAC diagnostics, and a third-party mold remediation protocol. Beyond the physical damage, this situation displaced our family for an extended period and created significant instability. The emotional and mental toll on our family has been overwhelming. We followed the required warranty and inspection processes and provided extensive documentation, yet meaningful resolution has still not occurred. So I waited to fill out the official DW feedback form for about ~6 months (they tried to get me to complete it at the design center, which is stupid - house isn't even built), but then the code they gave doesn't work. So I guess they don't want feedback for a house that's ~6 months old. Anyways, a breakdown on the pros/cons: Design center: laid back, no pressure, reasonable to work with. Pre-con meeting: They don't give you a ton of resources to prep for this...it's a lot of pressure to make decisions on the fly. Albeit, they were reasonable to adjust as we went along. Construction: Fast and then slow. A lot of pressure to close with many punch list items outstanding and blue tape items not addressed. Additionally, what was agreed to at the pre-con meeting (particularly the brick design and color) were not able to be procured. This was disappointing. We experienced pressure to pick a brick we did not really like and then a 2 month delay. After living in the home for 6 months: Everything works, but the attention to detail and the finishes are not great. Had to re-caulk most of the home because everything is peeling away from the surfaces. Warranty: Very prompt, sometimes can fix the issues right away, sometimes cannot. I feel the quality of the warranty contractors is lacking. Cabinet folks are pretty worthless. Often leave the job half done, then get pressure from the warranty contact to sign off on the job. Don't feel that is fair. End of story, it's a fine house and works. DW construction/sales folks were nice to work with and always told us what we wanted to hear, but the follow through often never happened. We're a little disappointed after spending 800k on our dream home in Jordan Ranch. read more

We did a new construction build right around 5.5 years ago and it seems like all of a sudden our whole house is falling apart. leaking pipes, cracked interior walls, cracked exterior walls, and more... we've unexpectedly had to spend over 10k out of pocket on unexpected repairs over the last several months. Great team in Austin, from Jayson our sales agent who helped throughout the process to Justin, our building supervisor, to all the contractors on site. Was everything perfect 100% of the time? It's a money pit! Bad rep both in Dallas & Houston. I bought a 2020 home in Houston from another owner in 2022 and all I have been doing is major repairs like it needs a French drain bcz water keep accumulating on one side of the fence they will not repair it costing me $2,000 on top of other repairs like the sprinkler pipe busted it cost me $250. There has been water heater issue pilot light keeps going off. HVAC issue with thermostat was inoperable. David Weekely warranty company was not much help. At this point in the building process, from sales, to design, cabinets, low voltage, and landscape, the process has been seamless. The employees of David Weekley Homes are friendly and responsive but the workmanship is poor. They use zero quality vendors to build their homes and apparently no one from DWH is checking the work or doing any type of quality control monitoring. We chose white painted brick which is an expensive upgrade. The builder uses red brick to paint it white. They only give one coat of paint but they don't tell you that. The paint comes off easily. We are missing a sprinkler and 19 shrubs that were included in the price of the house. We paid for an extended patio. The day we closed there were footprints in the concrete of the patio. It was completed weeks before closing but DWH didn't bother to correct it until we asked them to. The cabinets and interior doors were painted poorly, you can see the scratches in the paint. Almost every upgrade we paid for has a defect. They painted the hardware on every door and cabinet...that shouldn't be, you can Google that. The paint is starting to peel on the hardware and it looks bad. We've been in our house 7 months. One of the upgraded doors is uneven. They laid new sod in June, that looked dead, while other home builders were laying down green sod at the same time. Those homes have green grass and we still have dead sod after watering it 3 times a day. The floors had gaps from day one when we closed. Nobody from DWH is checking the work. The shower tile is uneven. David Weekley will repair anything that you CATCH, which is part of the problem. YOU have to figure out what's missing, damaged or wrong. These are cosmetic things that an inspector does not look for. Airco put the ducts in backwards for the AC but it passed inspection. The bedroom was hot but the rest of the house was cool. The doorbell was so far away from the door, when we installed the doorbell ring it was useless. DWH has repaired most of what we've reported. Thankfully we work from home but we weren't happy about the traffic of strangers in the house while COVID-19 is still a thing. If you have to go in to an office for work, be prepared to use most of your vacation time for scheduling repairs at your house. The popular phrase is, "well nothing is perfect". I think we should all strive for perfection especially when you're in the business of selling goods. Put your best foot forward from the beginning. Home ownership is still a dream for many. We chose David Weekley to build our dream home which is one of the most happiest moments you can have in life. This has been the most stressful and upsetting process for no good reason. We bought our Weekly Home in Fronterra Sub San Antonio. We were happy with the purchase process but once we got into the home it has been horrible! The wiring was done so poorly that we've had the electrician out multiple times and all they want to do is change out bulbs! Twice when we had them out and they actually did something, they said it looked like a 'drunk person' wired our house! They've had to rewire the air conditioner, a switch in a bedroom and a bathroom fan they kept running when the power was off. The painter removes the blue tape we put on the walls for touch up and then doesn't do all the touch ups. They painted over gold hinges on the doors even though my knobs were nickel and as we opened and closed doors the paint rubbed off. They did replace the hinges but tried to convince me it is a standard practice. The tub in the upstairs bathroom was a different color than the sink and toilet and didn't match counter tops. When they came to replace the tub, they did a lousy job with the tile and it doesn't match the original spacing. They claim they'll fix this but have made no effort. The tile has grout stains which I was told from our move in day, that they had a cleaner to get that cleaned up, but they haven't brought us any cleaner, nor have they done it. We have loose bricks out front and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. They also came in to fix lights in two bathrooms that were installed upside down. They ended up scratching up the mirror in the master bedroom which the electrician tried to tell me was minor and that I wouldn't be able to see it but it was very noticeable. I understand that Covid has played a minor part it the timing of getting things done but they are still building a bunch of houses and we have told them that we could distance and make it easy for them to get things done. I also agree that there contractors are very sketchy. We have seen garbage left behind cabinets and covered up, drinking while they are working and working unsupervised. The DWH builders aren't checking on the subs and the subs don't seem to have a supervisor that makes them clean up, drive decent, be respectful of the residents and not drink! Twice, recently I have reached out to Sarah Kelley's project manager, C., left messages with his assistant, and have received no response. We have a lot issues with our David Weekley home. Being ignored over and over by our representatives. Giving excuses after excuses and not fixing the issue. All of the issue have been poor workmanship by contractor during labor shortage. Some of the issues are : ceiling wall in the master bedroom and the ceiling wall on the third floor also are uneven. Did address with the warranty representative before buying and he say it will go away after the winter and summer past. After 10 months, still there and address with them about the uneven walls, they refuse to fix. Master bedroom shower floor cracking around the floor. They sent the warranty rep to fix not a contractor. He caulked with silicon instead with the normal sand grout being perform first. I mention why do you not fix with the sand grout instead putting a easy silicon caulking. He say that what they do and refuse to fix it right. They trying to save by doing it themself, not hiring the right contractor to do it right. Outside window caulking was full of gap, no straight caulking and messy. Look like it done by a kid . Again the warranty rep come out and put more caulking over and into the old caulking. They wont fix because it take too long to remove the old caulking. Hardwood floor squeaking in 4 spots. Will have a Nov 9 appointment to fix the issues again. Hopefully they say it because of this and that excuses again. 4 Bedroom are experiencing flooring squeaking : Before buying warranty rep mention the all floor are screw down not nails down. On jan2022 my two month old new DW home started to make creepy noise when there was little breeze like 10mph. Contacted warranty manager and got response like play some music. We made our effort to follow up with another warranty manager who pointed out this was a brick tie ticking the wood structure making the noise. He was able to send people to our home and fixed one spot. Okay, the horrible thing about DW house is we kept detecting new spots making noises almost every time gets windy. The more horrible thing is although the warranty manager agreed to continue fixing this issue in spring 2023 - so it's easier they can locate the issue in windy days, now it's windy but they refused to continue fixing and insisted it's a RANDOM and SLIGHT noise. This so called random and slight noise made us sleepless for many nights. It is so creepy just like some people is knocking inside the wall. NO ONE CAN GET A SLEEP WITH THAT KIND OF NOISE. Hid behind what they could do legally vs the right moral/ethical decision in our personal turbulent times. Would never again consider David Weekly for one of their homes and hope you don't either. In addition their "custom homes" are highly controlled through their design centers and vendors who supply the design centers. The selection advertised was often not available. We have lived in our David Weekley home in Westfield IN (Harmony subdivision) for just over a year. We are extremely happy with our experience of building with David Weekley. From start to finish, we were treated with respect regarding our needs and our concerns. Heather, our sales representative, was honest and perceptive as we considered various home models and building options to ensure we would have the spaces needed for comfort and function. Bailey, our design consultant, helped us to pick options and finishes that resulted in the aesthetics that we had dreamed of for our new home. Hugo, our building superintendent, and his team, kept us informed of the progress throughout the entire experience. Any of our concerns were addressed in a timely manner - we are confident in the quality of construction and appreciate all of Hugo's expertise. we purchased our DW home at Parkland Village hoping we get for what we pay for, we live the DW experience, the promised quality and attention to details. We were disappointed! Thé house wasn't ready for closing, sales and builder manager pushed keep saying the same phrase 'this is a well built home'. Since then, two rooms ceiling were redone completely due to uneven seems pushing down the drywall. drywall problems everywhere, subfloor issues causing cracking wall popping noise, windows leaking, rafters splitting from main beam in the attic, kitchen cabinet and quartz countertop had to be replaced, backyard grass was placed in the improper manner that you can trip over when walking on it and numerous issues. Lucky that I work from home to keep an eye on the workers and extremely blessed to have a kind and understanding warranty manager who gets things done so a big thank you to Daniel. I have no confidence that this house was cared for nor had the proper inspections by DW. The worse part is that new homes delivered within a month or two of our closing had a game room added, we are left without eventhough we paid more than the rest of the Jewel model owners. again, cusps to the warranty team, not so much for the rest on the poor job on this 15227 MP unit. For "box builders," their craftsmanship is the best in the business and their warranty department stands behind their products. I just submitted a warranty ticket on an expired item on Friday afternoon and they totally fixed it by noon on Tueday! They build very cheap quality homes. It does not matter if you buy a 700k or 800k dollar house they put very low quality products. If you purchased your house from them don't think you are covered with everything in the house, for example something gets bad and if they can fix it then its ok unless they deny to fix it with stupid excuse it's normal. I will never buy there homes again, I am regretting buying my house from them. They are really behind in technology, such as common house hold stuff like garbage disposer switch, they don't put GFCI plug in the house, there garage doors are so noisy they are still using 30 year old chain driven garage doorS , their garage door company "unprofessional" came 5 time to fix my garage door but still can't fix it 'pathetic ', they are not up to date with current time. I think they use overstock left over trash stuffs to cut cost but on the other hand will charge you same higher market price. I have continues problems with their sink faucets , shower heads have low water pressure, it shows moen brand but again cheap over stock parts that don't function right. Again according to them its normal. We have to change our own shower heads and faucets, is this a new home?? They hire cheap Labour worker to do the work, very unreliable, unprofessional. They Made so many mistakes while building the framing process. David weekly homes do not deserve any stars. Absolutely horrible, don't let the ads and "quality standards" "better life" "pics of smiling" families fool you. They hire very cheap vendors, those vendors hire inexperienced and illegal folks, and the home is built quickly. Then they blame everything on "industry standard" it is a struggle and battle to get things fixed, especially after the first year, and they will only fix something if you escalate to senior mgt. The best part, they don't like to put anything in writing or give you a copy of any reports that would indicate they have done something wrong. They will call you or visit your home. Very good at covering their tracks and a highly unethical company, I would give them 5 stars for that. Don't waste your time or energy, don't overpay for a DWH, and don't expect anything like what they show in their design centers or model homes. If you expect this, the product they offer to sell, you will be disappointed and labeled as someone with "higher standards than they can deliver in a production environment" as I was just recently advised. read more

We built and purchased our DWH home in Denver, CO (Stapleton) in 2017. We have been nothing but overjoyed by the quality of their workmanship, service, and attention to detail. During our design/build, DWH unfortunately went through some personnel changes. We ended up with three different builders through the 6-month build out. That said, each time our next builder was a consummate professional - with a hand off, overview, and completing their tasks. My LOVE of DWH came after our 12-month warranty ended. As you can imagine, after 12-months in a house is truly when you start to know the house - you notice seasonal changes and also start to understand what issues/changes aren't seasonal. It was after the 12-month warranty we had a few issues with our insulation near our master bedroom. I asked our warranty rep for a few pointers (as I assumed being out of the warranty period we were out of luck), but they instead came out the next week to take a look. As it was a DWH oversight, they will be completing the repair at no cost to me. It would be so much easier (and expected!) for DWH to say, well, the warranty time period is over. However, they stand by their work and are ready to make corrections. Not only that, but our lead warranty rep in Stapleton has been a pleasure to work with. All home builders are different - but the long-term service is what really matters and quite frankly, is likely what makes you build new vs. buying an existing home. If you want someone to be a long-term partner in the health and life of your home, DWH is the builder for you. read more

We are only partially into our build, but what a dumpster fire! They make a lot of promises up front, but aren't staffed at a level that allows them to follow through on them, no matter how good the local guys are. There's very little supervision on the build, issues aren't fixed in a timely manner which results in rework by multiple subs sometimes, "good enough" seems to be the mantra vs. good quality. We peeked behind the barrier they've put up for the shower and there's no insulation behind it! They changed their construction methods but didn't even tell us. Their contract calls out specifics and then they say they won't deliver on those specifics. This is a problem at the corporate level that is simply not being addressed, so don't think that which community I'm building in would make a difference in your build elsewhere. Lastly, we're afraid to make waves for fear of them buying us out of our contract and us having nowhere else to go. Most of the neighbors we've talked to feel the very same way. Worst experience ever. Here we are approaching 10 months into our DW Home. The hardwood floor issue that we were told about before closing is still an issue. The excuses as to why it has not been replaced continue. There are many other issues that either have not been addressed or we find new ones. As an example, we have a drawer in the kitchen that does not close properly, DH have sent someone out 4 times now. It is still not fixed and each time I have to report the issue again. There is almost zero follow up to a warranty call. Our five year old David Weekly home has been nothing but problems since we purchased it. We are currently dealing with windows that are full of moisture and leaking into our house, a bathroom full of cracked tiles and a leaky roof. Our local David Weekly warranty rep has basically said everything is out of warranty and that the cracked tiles are due to "normal settling". Since when is it normal for tiles to crack? I'm honestly done with the repeat excuses for shoddy workmanship and cheap inferior products that were installed. Not happy with out David Weekly home at all! read more

David Weekley built on my own lot in Denver in 2015, and I'm writing this 4 years later. Overall this has been a great experience. A few surprises, some good, some just not what I expected. The good surprises included a radon system that I didn't realize I was getting, plus a sump pump in the sump pit at no extra charge. However, when I asked for a small custom change, an operable bathroom window, I meant an EXTRA window - instead one was taken from the master bedroom. Which ended up being better since our western windows make our upstairs hot in the summer so having one fewer is something I prefer now. Right after we moved in there was a small leak into the kitchen from a leaky drain line under the master shower above - DWH responded fast and took care of it. And a few of the stones on the front of the house fell off - their contractor was driving by, saw it, and fixed them without me even filing a complaint with the warranty department. My only heads up to other people who would like to have DWH build one of their floorplans on your lot is that DWH will not give your bank the type of budget banks expect from a custom builder - based on DWH's numbers the cost to build the house is exactly what you are paying with no profit margin (their trade secret since they are production builders - our floorplan had a name and info that anyone could research). Obviously DWH is making a profit, but it made our bank uncomfortable. We solved the problem by offering our bank (Bank of Colorado, Lakewood branch on Simms) additional collateral that was released after construction was completed. If you are trying to build at the edge of your financial ability, you may not be able to get financing. Though I would try Bank of Colorado - it worked for them financing a DWH house for us, so they've had a good experience. I would definitely try DWH again - Super Great Value. I ended up with what seems to be a custom home because it is the only one like it in my west Denver neighborhood, but because it is a production home the costs were low despite us splurging on lots of upgrades. read more

From the weekly calls keeping us abreast of each step in the homebuilding process to their knowledge and expertise, we couldn't ask for a better team to work with to make our dreams a reality. Barely 2 years into a brand new build and this is the third leak and wet ceiling we've had to deal with since being here. Additionally, the AC just decided to stop working upstairs. On top of that, the dishwasher that was installed never properly dried dishes so i have not once used it since. What a joke. Nothing is covered under their warranty. read more

Kristin and I are building our first home, and chose David Weekley as our builder. Eddie (salesman) Patricia (design center consultant) and Melvin (builder) have all been wonderful. The whole process to this point has been well thought out and quite enjoyable. Everyone we have encountered doesn't seem to have the word no in their vocabulary, and anything we requested they have accommodated. David Weekley is a green builder and their homes are extremely energy efficient. I highly encourage you to give them a look if you are looking for a quality home built by a reputable company. read more

I would like to share my horrible experience with Allied Stone & David Weekley Homes, I recently bought a new house from David Weekley Homes which used the 'Allied Stone' company to install the countertops & kitchen island. Within a week after moving into the new house the Seam on the kitchen Island started developing cracks and the joints started breaking apart. We contacted David Weekley warranty and they in turn contacted 'Allied stones' for fixing the issue. 'Allied Stone' addressed the issue and closed it after just applying some sealant to the seam, but in a week's time, the same issue at the same spot started appearing again. Once again we contacted the warranty team and after multiple follow-ups, with them, they took efforts to find out the reason for the issue. The reason being that the seam on the island is placed right above the dishwasher and due to the dishwasher's heat the seam gets expanded which results in the joints breaking apart. After a long wait time 'Allied Stone' came with a solution saying that the island size needed to be reduced so that they could install the island without a seam. In order to do that they came up with a few oversized stone options which demanded us to bear an additional cost as the new options were not at the same level as what I currently have for my island. I am wondering why I need to pay additional money to correct their mistake. Even after paying an upgraded price for the quartz stone with the builder, due to their mistake with the island design and with the stone installation, I ended up with no option other than losing 12" of my island size and on top of it the additional cost for the new stone option. This issue has been going on for more than 4 months now and we have become tired of following up and waiting on them so long. Ideally, by this time we should have been enjoying the new house but this issue has left us with no peace of mind. If there is an option for zero stars, I would give that to both 'David Weekley Homes' and 'Allied Stones' for the way they are handling the issue and for the time they are taking to get it resolved and forcing customers to pay additional money to cover up their fault. read more

I did a BOYL Weekly home in 2012. Terrible service, terrible team, terrible management. Montgomery County Texas. Paid for items not received. They use day labor that was not good. Problems with flooring, pipes, electrical. When I complained at closing, I was told "you should have hired your own inspector". Be careful........... read more
