Amazingly, his laid-back demeanor and well-deserved ethical reputation are matched by seriously competitive real-estate chops, which we learned as we wrote our first offer. In this market, some agents will give blanket recommendations to waive all contingencies--people: just because everyone's doing it doesn't mean it's not still insanely risky! We always felt that Dave had our best interests at heart. He looked at our specific circumstances and was able to balance the need to write a competitive offer with our comfort level as risk-averse people. The neighborhood had not had any recent sales, which made determining the right offer price in this dynamic market tricky. As a first time home buyer in these crazy economic times, I knew I needed a great realtor on my side to walk me through the process. Dave was so kind, patient with my 500+ emails, and understood that I was very busy at the same time. At the time that I had bought, as well, I think he was a new father, second time over, and he really didnt miss a beat. I was introduced to Dave by another realtor who I found on Craigslist (which can be scary), and that realtor was going out of town the weekend that I wanted to see some condos. This a long overdue review. I had been on a search for a condo in the Oakland/Berkeley area, it was a big of a feat as it was my first home purchase, and I was still in school. He was a real estate agent for another friend who referred us. So I figured, why not. David was very kind but that's about it. He became frustrated/overwhelmed with the process after showing us a few homes. He then referred us with some other horrendous real estate agent in his place; we ended up letting that guy go quickly. We were finally referred (by a friend) to someone else (third real estate agent) who was extremely tenacious, had been doing real estate for 30 years and fought for us to purchase our home. My advice, if you're all over the place, don't know what it means to buy a home, Mr Pleasants won't be patient with you. Keep in mind, not all real estate agents are created equal. There also needs personality similarities between the purchaser/real estate agent. He just wasn't the right fit for us. read more

Over nearly 8 months he spent hours tirelessly helping us tour homes, communicating with realtors and agents, homeowners and us very clearly, taking the time to explain and educate us noobs. I just bought an investment property in Berkeley with David Pleasants, and it was such a pleasure. David is impeccably honest, sincere, and a jack of all trades.
