In and out in under an hour. At the end, he says to me, "OK, now go back to your dentist to complete the procedure. I put in a plug that will last for about 10 days." I have a crown on the tooth. He put a "plug" in the hole he made in the crown and now I have to go back to my dentist. I paid him $1,000 for the root canal and now I have to go back to my dentist to spend another $250 to remove the plug and put in crown material? He couldn't spend another 10 minutes, while I'm already deadened, and complete the job? At least offer to do so? I felt like after having work done on an engine, the mechanic saying, "OK, now go to the Jiffy Lube and get the oil." UPDATE I went to my dentist to get the crown completed. He charged me $200 to remove the plug and replace it with crown material. It took him 10 minutes to remove the plug. 10 minutes to refill with crown material. He said, that in the past, the plug allowed for the root canal material to "cure" (what?) but that really, it could be done all at one time now. So, David Johnson is just following industry practice. It's my first root canal, so didn't know. He did a fine job. A better job would have been if he had asked, "I can fill your crown with a plug and you can go back to your dentist, pay another $200, and have him complete the crown. Or, I can just take an extra 5 minutes and finish the job at no extra charge." I wonder how I would have answered that question?

Front desk say you'll be around 1200 less any insurance coverage. Guess what? They don't tell you they hit you with hundreds to just set up the anesthesiologist, then there's the consult, add in another $300, plus the anesthesiologist fee, so you'll be around 2k plus... Just be aware, they're not gonna be honest with you up front.

Oh my goodness I did one of the stupidest things I ever did in my life, but Dr. Paul Huffaker and…read morehis dental assistant Anna, saved me lol! I was opening a new small bottle of Loctite water resistant super glue gel with my teeth and didn't know that a whole glob was going to come out into my mouth! It was pretty much the whole bottle. I have no idea how that happened since I was so careful not to squeeze it. It was horrifying! I scraped as much off my tongue as I could but it hardened pretty quickly as I called Poison Contol. They reassured me that when it was dry it would not be toxic to me. It was like I had cement all over my upper and lower teeth on the front and right side of my mouth, and on the roof of my mouth. I couldn't get it off! It wouldn't budge no matter how hard I tried. So the next day I went to Dr. Huffaker's office. Everyone there is so nice! As he got started getting it off my teeth he was very reassuring and said that he could get the superglue off my teeth. He was kind and talked to me as he worked. Some of what he told me were some of the uses of super glue. Very interesting! It helped me not hate super glue forever lol. He worked at it for quite awhile and did some major work! And then Anna came in and did the fine-tuning with some fine instruments and the polisher. It took quite some time to get it all off! She kept asking me if I could feel anymore and I'd keep saying yes there's more here or there. There was so much! It got in every little tiny crack and crevice in my teeth. She was so patient and detailed and cared to get every little bit of it off. My tongue was raw from having that cement-like/sandpaper feeling in my mouth for almost 24 hours. It was such a relief to have her get all those MANY areas taken care of. My teeth feel amazing now and my tongue is already feeling better next day too. You guys saved me! Thank you so much!

My second visit had to be rescheduled because I was sick and could hardly function. I was also about to leave for a trip and was afraid he wouldn't be able to reschedule before I left, but he got me in 3 days later (the day before I left for my trip) He managed to save a tooth that most likely would have been an expensive crown at most other places. He doesn't push to have unnecessary work done and he'll work with you to figure out the cheapest, best option for treatment. He also does payment plans. Highly recommend!

It's a shame his staff and office aren't reflective of Francis and Dr. Facer. There are other, more consistent dental experiences to be had in SLC than this one. Dig deeper to find one who actually sees you as a human, not a wallet for them to reach into.

From the moment I walked in, the office staff was friendly, welcoming, and ready for me. The procedure itself was complex, but Dr. Rudd handled it with incredible skill and care. Two months later, everything feels perfect. He's also one of the most personable doctors I've met -- he even called me afterward to check in and make sure I was doing okay. That kind of follow-up really stood out. The dentist who referred me said Dr. Rudd is not only one of the best endodontists but had also been his professor, which says a lot about his expertise and reputation. I did see that he has a one-star review online, but it was only because of insurance coverage -- not the quality of his care. Based on my experience, that review is unfair. The out-of-state place wouldn't do both a cleaning and a checkup at the same appointment. Plus, they tried to tell me I needed gum grafts. Southwest respects your time and your money.
