My visit to Dave's Hot Chicken across from the Kia dealership was a great experience and honestly more impressive than I expected. The restaurant itself has a really cool vibe. I liked the new-wave graffiti style throughout the interior--it gives the place a modern, energetic feel that stands out from typical fast-food spots. It was pretty busy when I arrived, so there was a little bit of a wait, but it was completely understandable once I got my food. What really stood out to me was that everything came out hot. That may sound simple, but these days it's actually rare. Whether it's places like Burger King, McDonald's, or even fried chicken spots like Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, food often comes out lukewarm. Fried chicken especially needs to be hot, and Dave's absolutely delivered. My entire meal--from the mozzarella sticks to the fries--was fresh and hot. I ordered the mozzarella sticks with a little kick, and they were fire. You can adjust the spice level, and the seasoning gave them just enough heat without overpowering the flavor. The fries were hot and crispy, and they came with Dave's sauce, which was surprisingly good and paired really well with everything. Another nice surprise was the slice of bread tucked underneath the mozzarella sticks--simple, but it really hit the spot. The service was also excellent, and I want to give a special shout-out to Jo Jo and Isaiah working the front line. These two really held it down. Their energy is exactly what establishments like this need. They were engaging, positive, smiling, attentive, and in my opinion they kick off the entire experience from the moment you walk in. The manager also came over and greeted me, asking if I was being helped. I made sure to tell him that the front-line energy is the business, because when your team sets the tone like that, it makes a big difference in the overall experience. The only thing I wish they had on the menu would be bone-in chicken. Wings or traditional bone-in pieces would be amazing because that's usually my go-to. That said, the food I had was so good that it didn't take away from the overall experience. Overall, I was surprisingly impressed with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. I ordered Dave's #1 2 tenders fries bread and pickles no drink @ 12.99 add the drink you're at $17. Now you're at no bargain territory. Just so you know it's not tenders it's a breast.....now we have some value. The breading seems to hide the chicken If the chicken is brined it should stand out but not here. The cashier was able to explain the level of heat of all the flavors. I decided to go with mild, just to start myself off. Note: If you order the hottest flavor, Reaper, you need to sign a waiver. I ordered the combo number 1, which is 2 chicken tenders and fries. The meal also comes with bread, pickles, and a small cup of their house sauce. I did enjoy the chicken, and their sauce reminded me a bit of Cane's, but more sweet, if that makes sense. I also ordered a side of mac and cheese. Finally had the opportunity to try Dave's Hot Chicken (DHC) to see what all the hype is about I appreciate a good chicken sandwich now and then & have tried all sorts across the fast food-fast casual landscape I find almost all to be at or below average, unfortunately that too was the case with DHC. I ordered their basic chicken slider with crinkle fries & a drink. It's a nice sized sandwich but it tasted quite bland even with extra Dave's sauce. The crinkle cut fries were fresh, hot, & tasty. However my lemonade was absolutely horrible! It had a lingering bad aftertaste like it was made with some sort of artificial flavoring Best I can say about my entire experience is it was just OK. If you look at the picture I took the piece of chicken on the left sandwich went off the bun all the way to the corner of the food container. These sliders are full-on sandwiches in my opinion. I was full after one and some fries. When I bit into the chicken it actually made juicy chicken noises twice. I was like, what? The fries are crispy and I like them! The sauce is good too. I have to say I like this place better than other very popular chicken places right now and that says a lot. What I will say, which I won't hold against them as evidenced by my five star rating, is that they get a big volume of customers and so the orders do not come out speedily. You will wait a bit. I went to their soft opening and it exceeded my expectations! Having been to other Dave's locations before, I already knew the food would be amazing; and of course it did not disappoint. For a soft opening, everything ran so smoothly. There was a line (as expected), but it moved quickly, and we got our food in no time.
