AMBIANCE - given it's location downtown, I can only imagine how busy this place gets late night, during the school year. Thankfully, we were there in the summertime around lunch time. The space is a pretty decent size, and was fairly clean. We ended up dining in since we were in no rush, and there wasn't a huge crowd. MENU - like most hot chicken joints, they have sliders, tenders, loaded fries, shakes and other specialty drinks. Choose your spice level and they'll toss it up for you and get you on your way. I like that they had different sizes of loaded fries as I wasn't starving on this particular day, but appreciate knowing that I could've ordered a larger size if I was starving. FOOD - my son ended up doing a combo to try both the slider and some tenders. I ended up doing the loaded fries, which included slaw, and pickles. My son enjoyed his combo box, and I like the fries, though they way it was assembled looked very "robotic" in the way that chicken was evenly spaced across the fries vs. being chopped and spread across. Dave's Hot Chicken seems to be our go-to now whenever we're in East Lansing and want something quick. Nate and I stopped in recently and got the saucy bites flight to try their new sauced boneless wings - the sampler came with spicy buffalo, spicy bbq, and hot honey. I went with the two tender combo, mild spice. They still are huge portions (I forgot this, and totally could have ordered just 1 tender) and the mild is very mild. I could have gone up to medium. I love their sauce (it is very similar to the Cane's sauce). The saucy bites were okay, but I prefer the regular dry rub. The workers are kind and they have no problem suggesting something on the menu just in case it's your first time ordering there or maybe you just don't know what you want. The vibe is great, I love the layout because there are lots of open seats. The only issue with the restaurant is sometimes they get the spice level on your food wrong but that usually only happens when it's super busy and I get it, they want to get people their food as fast as possible and not everything will be perfect. read more

The only flavor in this restaurant is paprika. Not only that but I got a 12.99 meal that didn't even come with a drink. Then I buy $15! Mozzarella sticks that also only had the flavor of paprika that's it. Only 1 sauce I was able to get was the Dave's sauce and it had little to no flavor. Dave's has unfortunately been on a steady decline since their opening. When they opened I loved the food, it was quick service, and a great atmosphere but as time goes on the customer service just continues to get worse and worse. Let me just break down my experience today (my last time going here). Ordered and then waited 20minutes, the place was not even close to busy and I watched as the cooks and girl that was working up front talked and joked around while the only few orders weren't done and we were waiting, then the food finally came and they messed up the order (asked for no slaw) which they proceeded to give me a dirty look, take it to the back and scrape the slaw off my sandwich, walk back laughing and hand it to me. We then waited ANOTHER 20 minutes for my girlfriend's order all while the girl up front sat on her phone talking to the cooks about "connecting to the Aux". Dave the manager there is absolutely amazing, but the other employees (or at least the ones on shift February 2nd @ 3:00) couldn't care less! Recommend getting some new people in there before more people like me spend our money elsewhere read more
