Mushroom Burger Deluxe with Onion Rings
    Amy S.

Today was first visit at Dave's Burgers. I went when they opened at 10:30am, I was the very first customer. Honestly it will be my last my visit. The restaurant is just filthy. Windows have hand prints all over them. Window sills have food on them. The seats have food, and garbage in the crevices. The floors under the tables are very dirty. The napkin dispenser on my table has dried food on it. Walking to my table, I noticed that the bench seats were just filthy. The floor is greasy. This restaurant needs a DEEP cleaning. The mustard packets on the condiment stand are VERY old. Opening the package, it came out as a paste. See the attached image. I had to ask for mustard from the cook. Let's talk about the cashier who took my order, her shirt. Absolutely disgusting. She had caked on food stuck to her teal shirt, looked like a weeks work. Restaurant I rate 0/5. My food. It looked absolutely amazing, it was hot and fresh, delivered to my table. The onion rings could use a pinch of salt. There wasn't any salt in the restaurant anywhere to be found. On the table, or at the condiment station. Otherwise, they were really good. The burger on the other hand, needs to be seasoned. It was very bland. Add seasoning, this will be a good burger. I was very surprised by this one, they charge for WATER. Really?! Who does this? Food I rate a 3/5.

We found this mom & pops hamburger shop about a month ago. Prices are reasonable & food is amazing. I would choose this place over any fast food chain. If you want a good, affordable burger this is the place to go. We've been here 3 time total and everytime the food is hot and fresh. 10/10 recommended!

I was glad to get my visit in, as they are seasonal and will be closing for the winter next week. This time, there were about 12 cards in front of me, and it took about 30 min to get through the line. I know from looking at past pics that their prices have gone up (hasn't everything?!) , but nothing too extreme -- maybe $.50-ish on items, still really great deals. I ordered a cheeseburger/ fries/ drink combo, a small pup cup for my dog, and a chocolate cherry milkshake. I also ordered extra packets of ketchup and mayo. So my one :( is that I got my bag, an no ketchup or mayo. Then I asked for some and was given ketchup pakets but told mayo was an extra charge. How much? $.60. Meh, no thanks. Not that that the $ would have mattered, but I think at a burget joint, you shouldn't charge for that as a customer service issue. Especially when things like lettuce, tomato, onion etc are already included if you want them! Anyway, the buger was good, the fries were a little salty (they seem frozen, not homemade, but I ate them all), the shake was tasty, and my dog loved his pup cup! #yum #ReviewsByRL

Kind of pricey if you ask me. They added corn dogs to their menu however they are just frozen ones. I thought they were homemade batter dipped or something special. The line was extremely long which was not surprising as there is not many other choices to eat in town. Expect a wait if you go the evening time. With that being said, the hot dogs were still very good.

Shorty's is one of the Salvatori's Restaurant Group offerings that is located on Main Street in Garrett. Head north on 327 to the downtown area. Shorty's is set in a small and older building located on the east side of the road. You will need to park on the street - which isn't an issue in Garrett. As I said... Shorty's is a smaller venue. The building holds about 10 people at the bar and 90 inside dinners. The outdoor patio appears to seat about 50 people. Shorty's is always busy - especially on Friday/Saturday nights. So, make a reservation via their website. The larger side room can hold bigger groups of 8-14 people. Otherwise you are limited to a table of four. Upon entering the restaurant you will quickly encounter the host stand right at the door. There is no real foyer area to wait for your table. You may feel uncomfortably close to a stranger if things are backed up. The bar area is one of the first things you see. Legend has it that this bar was relocated from a Chicago area business who had it installed in around the time the 1893 World's Fair was in Chicago. The bar wood work, design and finishing are gorgeous! Very inviting. The older part of restaurant retains the decor of the old building - attractive dark wood interiors/fixtures, green plaster ceilings and hardwood floors. All are very comfortable and welcoming. The host and service team were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of help to hustle drink orders, refills and follow up. The kitchen is very small. Food orders may take a bit of time when they are busy. So be prepared to relax, enjoy a bar drink, converse and admire the renovations. Shorty's has a decent variety to offer on their smaller food and drink menus. They are more than just steaks. In general, most items are a bit pricey...but probably normal for most area steakhouses. Here is a run down of the food we ordered: -Table Bread: nothing to special; white bread roll with a firm exterior and soft inside with basic butter; tasted like it was freshly baked -House Salad: nice sized salad with a fresh taste and ingredients; several side vegetables and cheese to dress up/accent the salad; the honey mustard dressing tasted familiar - probably not made in house -Crab Cakes: my wife loved her crab cakes; tender, full of crab and seafood tastes; nicely grilled exterior -Prime Rib & Baked Potato: delicious taste, tender and smaller amounts of fat; my medium rare request seemed to be more medium as I didn't see much pink coloring; the real horseradish lacked the usual bold kick that I except. The potato was baked perfectly and accented with the usual dollops of smooth butter and sour cream. Good steakhouse choice. Overall, Shorty's offers good food & drink selections in a unique setting. Remember, Shorty's is a very popular place and fills up quickly. Therefore, plan ahead and make a reservation. Shorty's is definitely worth a trip to Garrett to give them a try.

The food had been consistently good. They have classic mom and pop griddled burgers, decent quality meat, made to order, always hot. You can choose from a plethora of fried goods and an in-house prepared breaded tenderloin that represents a Hoosier tenderloin well. In recent years, the business has been passed down to a younger generation. That came with some modern upgrades in marketing and packaging, including online ordering. The economy as well as new owners, has also made portion sizes smaller (a $3 French fry is now smaller than a small at a typical fast food joint) and the prices have also increased. Ten dollar burgers are standard most places now, but over $15 for a burger meal at a drive thru stand may be hard for some patrons to swallow. The custard and soft serve is delicious, albeit, still not a cheap treat. The staff is always efficient and friendly. The inside appears clean and orderly. The outdoor seating area and the appearance is charming, while still maintaining the old school vibes and nostalgia we all love about the Brown House. It's not an inexpensive meal, but the quality is good, service is consistent, and they still include the peppermint in your sack to round off your meal.

Mad Anthony's Auburn Tap Room - dinning & relaxing downtown Auburn, Indiana…read more You can find Mad Anthony's just off the north side of the square in Auburn. It is set in an older building where they have kept the unique brickwork and history apart of the decor - nicely done! There is street parking available...though you may have to hunt for it. The serving team was friendly and helpful on this trip. Mad Anthony's has a large and varied menu. Plenty of choices for most dinners. I can not comment on the beer selections as this isn't my expertise. We started with the cheese curds which were excellent. The curd had a thick breading whose seasoning really accented the cheese and oil tastes. It comes off light and slightly crunchy. The cheese curd was simply delicious. It was slightly gooey and just under a shade under temperature hot. The marinara sauce was thick and heavy on the tomato taste. This made a good complement to the cheese flavor. Definitely give this a try! We also tried the fried pickles. The pickle was a very thin "stick" of dill pickle spear. It has a pretty good tart taste. However, I would prefer a thicker pickle and more bold pickle taste. The pickle was wrapped in a thicker breading that differed from the cheese curd. This breading was more corn meal based and textured. It comes off a little tougher and retains the oil taste more. The dill sauce was really thick, colder and somewhat difficult to dip into. Overall a nice appetizer with a different flare. I've been craving a deep dish pizza and just happened to get one at Mad Anthony's in Auburn. MA has about 8 different deep dish pizzas and 10 flatbread type pizzas to choose from. I went with the medium Politician deep dish pizza for $21. The crust on the edges of the pizza came out a bit tough and crunchy. The interior was nice and soft. The edge crust had a bit of a buttery flavor. The sauce was plentiful and sweet. They use plum Roma tomatoes in the sauce. This gives is a richer tomato taste and zing. It also enhances the moistness of the pizza while keeping the topping thick. The toppings were piled high and thick - as you would expect. There was plenty of fresh cheese to give you that pull apart stretch. The vegetable toppings were fresh and had a bit of crunch to them. The meat was layered nicely and plentiful. The pepperoni and sauce had a nice meat flavor that completed the taste pallet. Overall I thought this was a good pizza. I'm sure there are places that do deep dish even better. A member of our party ordered one of the flatbread pizzas. This looked delicious as well.

It has been a fixture in Avilla since 1948 when it started as a hotel. St. James has a long tradition of serving northeast Indiana patrons (groups, families or friends) food and drinks from this historical structure. The building is large and dominates the block. It is in good repair but rather plain in appearance. There is plenty of parking out back. Once you find the entry door you have to navigate a series of hallways to the attractive bar and hostess area. The building has lots of walls that reflect the hotel structure. The back of the restaurant has a large open and plain looking dinning area. Everyone here is very friendly. They are good and simple people. They seem to seek to serve you and make you happy. There isn't much fancy about St. James. Just a good ole relaxing and home feel atmosphere. The menu is big. There is something for everyone. Prices are fair and portion sizes are decent. Here is a rundown on the items we ordered: -Strawberry pie: it's seasonal and popular. Reserve your piece when ordering dinner - if they still have it. The berries were sweet and fresh. The filling is homemade, nice berry flavor, not over the top sweet. Crust is flaky, tender and delicious. -Onion rings: we got about 6 medium sized rings for $7 on the appetizer menu. Each piece was uniquely made. Some were really thin and crispy. Others had a really thick/tender piece of onion with a thicker batter. Overall nice taste, not too oily. The ranch sauce was very thin and short on ranch flavor -Side salad: nice smaller salad with fresh ingredients. Plenty of side veggies and cheese. The croutons were tough. Garlicky and very crispy. The Smokey Bit dressing was outstanding. Kind of a blend of a southwestern chipotle sauce with a strong smoke flavor! -Crab cakes: my wife really liked the thinner cake. This allowed the cake to be heated throughout and more crispy surface areas. She liked the stronger crab meat taste. -Oven baked BBQ ribs: very tender and meaty rib. The BBQ sauce had a mild BBQ flavor with no spicy kick. The meat could be flaked off the bone with a fork. No Smokey or grilled flavors. The baked potato was large and cooked to a tender but firm center. The skin was slighted salted.
