I had two sets of automotive seats done by the folks at Baca. The craft of the upholstery was good,…read morethe price was reasonable, the quality of the materials was poor, and the service was unprofessional. With one vehicle, my initial quote mysteriously changed when I dropped it off. We cleared that up, I thought, but then Baca failed to install new foam in the seats--so I got the lower price initially quoted, but not the work I asked for. Also, they did not call and notify me the vehicle was done, so I checked back after two days and they complained that I had left the vehicle with them. At least the seats looked good. The other vehicle seemed to go fine, but the fabric split within 18 months of negligible use--not at the seam, but the vinyl itself detached from the cloth backing. I took it back to Baca for a look because it seemed defective. They said I must have worn it out, shrugged when I told them I had barely used it, and gave me a quote to replace the cheap fabric with more cheap fabric. If you have a project where you have a small budget and aren't picky about the results, it might be worth rolling the dice with Baca. Conversely, paying to reupholster something and have it look slightly less bad could feel like money down the drain. Enter at your own risk.

I stopped by on a Friday During business hours and they were closed. Went back the following Monday and the door was locked but there were people inside, one was sitting on MY chair. Finaly someone came to the door But refused to let me have my chair. After I said I would call the sheriff he made a call to his boss and after some arguments he let me have MY chair. We took in the chairs from my parents 60-year-old maple dining room set to be re-glued. They were…read moreloose and wobbly. One of them had some spindles that were damaged. Cindy did a beautiful job fixing them with an eye for detail and cleaned them up, too. The turn around time was quick. When we took them in, the finish on the chairs was worn and scuffed. They look really nice now and we don't have to worry about them collapsing when someone sits on them.

I had worked on them a little bit myself, but knew I was in over my head. I was also worried about calling in a professional, wary of turning what had been a free find into an incredibly expensive one. Eventually I bit the bullet, and called Artcraft. I worked with Cindy, who is truly wonderful. She was prompt about getting back to me, and gave her own suggestions while being careful to listen to what I was asking for. She clearly understands the sentimental value of the furniture she gets, in addition to its monetary value. I was also initially worried about replacing the damaged casters and caster sleeves of the chair--she did an amazing job! She found period matches for one chair, and completely replaced the wheels of another, which had been modified at some point in its past. She was also very sharp in her assessment of the materials and time period of the pieces, which was especially helpful given these chairs' unknown history. The rates were very reasonable, and the work was completed before the date she gave. She also has a nice collection of antiques, if you're in the market for something. I have attached photos of the chairs, but they do not do the work justice. They're so lovely!
