I had two sets of automotive seats done by the folks at Baca. The craft of the upholstery was good, the price was reasonable, the quality of the materials was poor, and the service was unprofessional. With one vehicle, my initial quote mysteriously changed when I dropped it off. We cleared that up, I thought, but then Baca failed to install new foam in the seats--so I got the lower price initially quoted, but not the work I asked for. Also, they did not call and notify me the vehicle was done, so I checked back after two days and they complained that I had left the vehicle with them. At least the seats looked good. The other vehicle seemed to go fine, but the fabric split within 18 months of negligible use--not at the seam, but the vinyl itself detached from the cloth backing. I took it back to Baca for a look because it seemed defective. They said I must have worn it out, shrugged when I told them I had barely used it, and gave me a quote to replace the cheap fabric with more cheap fabric. If you have a project where you have a small budget and aren't picky about the results, it might be worth rolling the dice with Baca. Conversely, paying to reupholster something and have it look slightly less bad could feel like money down the drain. Enter at your own risk. read more

The quote from Fabrics to Go was $6,000 for 16 new cushions for our outdoor furniture. I found the same Sunbrella fabric for 1/2 the cost on line and Baca made the 16 cushions AND 12 pillows for $1350 (my fabric cost was $700 so total was $2050). Workmanship is EXCELLENT. Everything was done in 2 weeks. The foam used is very firm and EXCELLENT quality. The owner is one of the nicest people I have met and the people working there are very, very pleasant. The outdoor furniture was made by O W Lee (very good construction) and the cushions Baca made are better than the original ones. I cannot say enough good things about this business. read more

LOVE this upholsterer! I can't say enough good things about them! So, a little background - when I wasn't a full time mommy, I was a professional interior designer in downtown Chicago, and later in central AZ, so I'm pretty comfortable with what is possible, and also what average pricing and yardage is likely to ballpark. I'd seen lots of good reviews for Mr. Baca, here and on Angie's list, and read that the pricing was great. I'm currently trying to do roughly ten million house projects with not-ten-million dollars, so I figured if he even did a passable job, I could be content with that. I can safely say they did an excellent job, the pricing was less than half for labor than I'd been quoted by another local shop (which, for the record, still wasn't crazy high and was on par with my estimates), and they were fast! So, the nitty gritty (because I'm always hoping other reviewers will disclose this stuff): I had a large, camelback sofa with three seat and three back cushions redone. I think Mr. Baca was able to salvage my original down-wrapped cushions by wrapping them in Dacron to reshape them, so there was no major cost for cushion replacement. I did change the finish of my nailheads, which he provided for a very minimal cost. For the record, reupholstery in general (especially on large pieces), won't necessarily be cheaper than buying new, so be prepared for that going in. I chose to have this piece done because I helped my parents pick it out in my teens, and I still think it has beautiful, classic lines. The upholstery was destroyed, but the sofa itself was a tank, and now that lightweight Asian-imported furniture has proliferated, I find it harder and harder to find really solid pieces unless you're getting into really expensive custom companies like Baker, Drexel, etc. I also have a CRAZY active toddler boy and another on the way, and solid is a big priority in my house. I figured I'd spend 1k on a new sofa that would be inferior, or spend about the same and keep the one I love. So I spent just over $300 on fabric from my own vendor, and about $490 on labor, and my sofa is GORGEOUS! Nobody recognizes it. I'm thrilled. I thought Mr. Baca was utterly charming, although his shop kind of looks like a war zone - ha! You're definitely not paying for ambiance! Also, although we didn't use this service, we were quoted $50 for pick up or delivery, if we didn't have the means to transport our furniture. I'm not sure if that varies by location in Tucson. Anyway, I already have another project I'll take to Baca as soon as I order fabric, and will continue to use them in the future! What a great find! read more

I found Baca Upholstery through our HOA vendor directory and was very impressed with the work that Lalo and his team did. Turnaround was usually about two weeks and their prices were the most reasonable I've ever encountered. Over a 2 year period I had Baca reupholster the cushions and pillows for an outdoor sectional sofa, as well as four outdoor club chairs, twice. In addition, they made a daybed mattress cover, a couple of large bolster pillows, reupholstered 6 dining room chairs and a couple of occasional chairs and a lot of pillows. I never had a problem, everything always looked great and was ready on time. But on my last visit to Baca everything changed and caught me completely off guard as it was the last thing I ever would have expected. I went to pick up, for the second time, two chairs that were reupholstered. I had been told a week earlier they were ready but when I went down there to pick them up I was told they were not ready. That had never happened before so I chalked it up to sh*t happens and didn't really care. When I got there, Lalo wasn't around but the other guy who is always there knew me and knew what I was picking up. I paid the guy in cash and loaded the chairs into my vehicle. These were two small armless chairs and I had dropped off 10 yards of fabric figuring that would be more than enough. I asked this guy if there was any of the fabric left over. It was around $120/yard so if there was anything left, I wanted it. He said he didn't know so I asked him if I/we could just look around real fast to if it was left somewhere. There is no visible organization to this work space and there is literally fabric and furniture piled up everywhere. I was always amazed that Lalo could remember what fabric went where and who it belonged to because he never wrote a damn thing down. His memory was very impressive. While I looked, the guy who was helping me called Lalo and presumably asked him if there was any left over. They spoke entirely in Spanish so I'm assuming that's what he asked him. The guy then handed me the phone at which point Lalo went off, screaming at me over the phone asking me why I was accusing him of stealing fabric when the chairs actually took every bit of it. Not once did I ever accuse anyone of stealing it, nor did that thought even cross my mind. He continued his rant saying he didn't steal my "f*cking fabric" and he "wouldn't want that sh*tty fabric anyway it was ugly." At this point I just hung up the phone and walked out. I have no idea what that guy said to Lalo that made him think I was accusing him of stealing, but after that episode I knew I would have to find another company to take my work to. To me a great price, quality work, and good service does not negate bad behavior or grant permission to disrespect a customer. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Tucson. Lalo did an amazing job re-covering the cushions for my chairs. A bit of detail...I bought a couple of old Brandt Ranch Oak chairs that really needed some updating. I wanted to do a combination of leather and hair on hide. Lalo helped me determine how much material I would need, which I bought on my own. He quoted me a very fair price for labor and new foam and had them finished ahead of schedule. They are stunning!
