Denise did not take children under two years old but made an exception and took my daughter. Since then both my daughters have danced with Denise and now my very shy four-year-old great-niece is dancing with her and just performed in her third dance recital! Denise's program is unmatched and the children really love being able to have fun in a non-threatening learning environment. Denise is kind, patient, loving and just all-around amazing with the children. I would highly recommend her program if you have little ones looking to have fun while dancing! Thanks Miss Denise for all that you do!

Calvin has local interns from the Rochester Works program a d exhibits local artists weekly. This was a very friendly place to go. Rebecca the Cheese monger, from Hart's grocery, served NY State cheeses and local craft beer and made everybody feel educated on how fun it can be to serve cheese, on boards with dried or fresh fruit charcuterie, nuts and more alongside adult beverages for appetizers or as part of a cheese course. There were a wide range of people in attendance. I love seeing locals come back to the Rochester area and renovate historical properties and rebuild areas that have been part of Rochester's unique history. I wish parking was a bit better, but if you are lucky you can catch a spot on Main street or one of the side roads. Fun times. I wish I could do half points as this would get a 4.5 as a fun place to put together a small gathering near the Susan B. Anthony house.

Rochester is an immensely creative city and this is the place to come to hear about unique and innovative projects and stories people share. This year, the conference took place at East High. It was fitting that the learning would take place in a school. It was inspiring to be back in a high school to learn after nearly 10 years since I stepped foot inside the school I graduated from. If anyone has an skepticism about Rochester's future growth, I recommend you sign up for TEDx next year. Your outlook will change and will inspire you to get involved anyway you can. The purpose of these TEDx talks is to shed light on aspects of our community that deserve some extra love or recognition. It's amazing to see people connect and discover the opportunities they now have after meeting just one person that can help take their project one step further. One thing that made this year awesome is that the event took place on a Saturday so you didn't have to take a vacation day! I hope they continue that trend for future years.

The last-minute change of venue to East High School proved to be great. The space was perfect for us. We are looking forward to returning next year. My only critique was that we were frustrated with the timeline execution. We were happy to have time to network and mingle, but it could have been done much better. We arrived a little early but found that the "start" time was quite a while before the program start time. I'm forgetting now exactly how long - - but I think it was 90 minutes. And after that, we also had a very, very long lunch (2 hours maybe?). And after all the unexpected downtime, the program ran late. We ended up feeling very rude and ducking out during the last speaker because our ride had been waiting in the parking lot so long. But again, other than the timeline, it was a wonderful event. Thinking about contacting them to volunteer next year!

Amazing experience- one I'm sure to remember for a long time to come. It's really a shame I was…read moreonly able to see one film of the many that were shown this year. I came to see The Wedding Invitation directed by Rainy Kerwin on the last night of the 2016 High Falls Film Festival. The Wedding Invitation is your typical rom-com, filled with heartbreak and laughter. The story was focused on the lives of three female leads who make a game out of trying to get their perfect dates for a wedding in less than a week. When this film was being produced movies like Bridesmaids had not actually come out yet, so, although movies with female leads are now getting more attention, there is still much competition with being recognized as being a "hit". This is especially difficult because 60% of sales come from foreign markets, and foreign markets only recognize the profitability of female leads at a fraction of what a male lead would be. For example, a movie with a female lead would make 2 million compared to a male lead that would make 20 million. But this gap is decreasing with the increasing enjoyment and sales of these types of movies which is wonderful. What is also really amazing about this experience is to understand that this great film, because it wasn't picked up by a major label studio, was made on a tight budget- as most independent films are. I think it's important for people to realize that independent films have some amazing content in them and they should not be discredited as being just as enjoyable as those produced by bigger studios. To top it all off there was a Q&A session with the director Rainy Kerwin afterwards. She was so personable, alive and open- it was very cool to meet the person who made the film I had just enjoyed on the big screen and be able to shake her hand.

The staff are all very welcoming and knowledgeable about different aspects of lighthouse and maritime history as they pertain to Rochester. One of the docents led us on a tour through the rooms, pointing out items from the lighthouse's history and regaling us with its history, such as the 33 farmers who used a clever rouse to convince the British that an entire army was camped on the coast during the War of 1812, thereby preventing an invasion. We had the opportunity to climb with the tower. The lighthouse is only 40 feet tall, but it sits atop a 40-foot bluff, giving it 80 feet of elevation. The docent at the top explained to us of sediment deposits and years of industrialization had pushed the lake coast outward so that the lighthouse no longer sits at the point where the Genesee River empties into Lake Ontario; rather, it's slightly upstream from the current point of connection. The light room guide explained the current 4-th order Fresnel lens and how it still acts as a signal light for the lake in case boaters lost the ability to use modern directional equipment. He then gave us stickers in celebration for climbing to the top. Though there was a light rain, it was still a lovely day and a great spot to visit.
