The classes themselves are kept small enough so each student can get individual attention if needed, and the instructors do a good job of making sure everyone is comfortable with moves before moving onto something else. There's also a really good sense of camaraderie here, not only with the students but the instructors as well. Once you're in a class, it starts to feel like family. You're not just treated like another student, and by your third or fourth lesson you'll see that everyone knows you by name and vice versa. I have also attended a book release party and a youth literary circle. Most events are low-cost and have an option to pay as you can. The summer program last year included meals for youth. This theater is a gem to Rochester, but especially for youth who don't always have access to creative outlets. One thing that I have noticed, though, is to always add a little time to your plans. Events sometimes start late or have added time during an event that I hadn't anticipated (e.g. Tour of the art gallery).

I was in the recently re-done Rockwell Hall to see the Yamato Japanese Drummers. I knew nothing…read moreabout Japanese drummers. My husband told me they use huge drums. It was not an understatement! I estimate the sizes of the drums to be from 12 inches in diameter to 5 feet! Even the drumsticks can be quite large. The smallest drumsticks were a normal length, but much thicker. From my vantage point, they looked about an inch in diameter. The really large drumsticks are longer, approximately 2 feet long, and 3-5 inches in diameter. The sound is greatly amplified by the larger sticks on the huge drums. The troupe is made up of 7 men and 2 women. They all play on the many sizes of drums. Two of the male drummers acted as comic relief between the resetting of the drums. One pretends to poke fun at the other man and he plays to the delighted audience. Earplugs were offered to the patrons as we entered this beautiful auditorium. As much as I enjoyed the entire performance, hearing it with foam earplugs is a really good idea.

I am always blown away by the professionalism of these performances, and it's a reasonably priced night out. Support your local small venue! The theater itself was smaller than I thought. Maybe I'm just used to Kodak Theater on Ridge Road, which is much larger. But I like the more intimate experience. We bought tickets for an Amy Winehouse tribute band. They were excellent. The sound was great in there. We were in the first level left side of the stage. We parked right on the street so that was easy. But they do have a parking garage below and I'm not sure the cost. The theater itself is on the second floor of a building that overlooks a cool courtyard that's in between the theater and the old Xerox building which is now called Innovation Square. They had some good drink choices there, no food choices like cookies or anything, but that was OK. Overall, a very cool and good place to see a show. I'll definitely keep my eye out and come back in the future.

Parking is easy and felt safe at night. The opening act came off the stage and literally walked right in front of me while I was on the way to the bathroom. I got front row seats, and got them pretty easily. I also did the VIP before the show. They made us line up outside, which was weird because it was windy. But I don't think that had anything to do with the venue though. I stood center stage right under him for his whole show. That makes one happy fangirl. I have been a BSB and Nick Carter fan for years and years! This was by far the easiest venue I've ever been to see them, and the easiest it ever was for me to get the front row. If he comes back here, I will run back! :)
