Starting early, I arrived about 7:30am to join the small line already formed in front of the store. The first 100 customers were guaranteed to receive a free Wawa t-shirt. The staff offered music, free hot chocolate (it was a little chilly but not too bad), and branded noise clappers. Special guest and dance partner, Wally, made an appearance to help warm the crowd up. Staff, community leaders, LCSO and Fire-Rescue joined in to help make this event successful. At 8:00am, Wawa leaders thanked the crowd for coming out before the official countdown, opening the doors to the newest Wawa in the area. Fully stocked and ready for the hundreds of free coffee offered. For the opening week, Wawa offered free hot coffee and discounted snacks and drinks. Of course the store was clean and in its best condition. Staff was full of smiles and greeted each customer individually. I opted for free coffee and a slushie (which was only $1.05 for the grand opening). At 8:30, community leaders welcomed the staff and customers by saying a few words. To close out the ceremony, the Sheriff's Office and Fire-Rescue teams had a friendly hoagie battle. Each team had to create hoagies, and who ever created the most at the end of two-minutes, won! Fire-Rescue won, departing with a huge trophy. Both teams took their hoagies back to work (which was awesome). If you are looking for a Wawa closer than Air and Space or Oakgrove, this is the location for you. It's a smaller footprint, but they offer all the goodies Wawa is famous for.

Every culture has their own interpretation of taking the basic ingredients of flour, yeast, salt and water and transforming it via various baking methods into their version of "bread." There is a long history of using circular oval shaped ovens in Asia and the Middle East as a way of both conserving space and to efficiently cook foods with even heat distribution and small footprints in otherwise cramped kitchens. In India these ovens are called tandoors while in Japan they are referenced as kamados. Sauson International Grocery has been in operation since 2011, and the owner, who everyone knows as "Mr. Rashid," is of Persian descent having emigrated from Iran. He is always super friendly and willing to answer questions I may have about the wide variety of Middle Eastern spices and foods this place stocks. Don't be surprised if you strike up a conversation with him, and he offers you a cup of wonderfully spiced tea and a cookie or pastry from the delectable dessert case. As some of the reviews have noted, parking is tricky. There is a small covered garage under the building. But you may have to park at the nearby church or on the street and then walk over to the store. This place is well known for their bread, which is being made throughout the day. I came a bit later today, so they had just finished making a few batches. But it's not uncommon to witness skilled bakers kneading and rolling, and then slapping the dough onto the circular metallic oven for a few minutes, before piping hot fresh bread emerges. The bread is amazing. It is pliable, without being overly chewy. It is slightly salty, with a great smoky almost charred flavor. I've had it cut into pieces and then dipped with hummus or rolled into gyros or used to sandwich kabob meat. And believe it or not, it's even pretty good as a PB&J. Everyone, and I mean everyone, I've introduced this product to usually asks: (1). What type of bread is this? and (2). Where can I buy it? Note: As of this review, the current price is $8.05 for FOUR large round pieces of bread. Apart from the bread, there is also a small butcher shop in the back, and a kitchen where hot foods like kabob platters are made. There is also a small seating area in front of the store, where folks can sip tea and relax while enjoying sweets from the display case. Sauson is a really cool place and while I usually go with the intention of only buying bread, it's not uncommon for me to walk out with a few bags of unique Middle Eastern groceries.

I was going for pupusas from the heated food case but he let me know there were some fresh ones coming out and explained the different fillings. I took the fresh pupusas and then he made sure I didn't leave without the Curtido to go with it. Every staff member was kind and helpful! The food was great. I will absolutely make a stop in here any time I'm visiting my family in Leesburg. Friendly service and good food can brighten your whole day :)

They gas station portion of the business is currently Exxon - but at some point not to long ago - it used to be a Valero. They pre-make their breakfast stuff and keep it in a warmer. Last time I was in - the warmer contained a couple of breakfast burritos, and one sausage, egg, and cheese on a Croissant. I asked if they do special orders - the response was yes. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches (all food/orders are to go - as there is no seating to eat in). The first sammie was bacon, egg, and cheese - on a croissant - with extra bacon and extra cheese; and the second sammie was sausage, egg, and cheese on a Croissant - with extra sausage and extra cheese. I also bought one of the pre-made breakfast burritos. After getting on the road - I was very hungry, so I tore into the Bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. It did have extra bacon - but the bacon was way overcooked. It basically was crumbling out of the sandwich.. I consumed the Sausage, egg, and cheese sammie later at home. I reheated it - and slightly charred the croissant in the toaster oven (it did not come that way). Tasty, but it did not have the extra cheese I requested. Ironically, the pre-made breakfast burrito from the warmer - was better than either of the breakfast sandwiches. It contained sausage, eggs, cheese, potatoes, onions, etc. I'll give them another try sometime soon - to see if they fare better. They weren't terrible - but they could have been better.
