I was offered an array of beverages and even cake! I met Jo who looked after my colour and Juliet who would be saving me from my previous hair cut disaster. Both listened to my probably misguided dreams for my hair and asked all the right questions giving feedback and guidance without being pushy or overwhelming. I couldn't be happier with the resulting cut and colour! And the shampoo/ head massage alone is worth making an appointment for! I'll definitely be back and you'll notice I'm the one walking around town flicking my hair like I'm in a commercial for shampoo!

The service is friendly, the cuts are great and there is, of course, always that offer of a drink with your cut. Once when I was getting my hair cut, a man came in off the street to ask about prices. When he was given the list, he started laughing and said, "Yeah, good luck getting people to pay that for a cut!" Sure, the cuts are at salon prices, so might be a bit out of people's budget, but I think they're probably one of the more reasonable ranges on the market (depending on level of stylist you choose) - and I have always felt that I have gotten my money's worth. Finally, I've had my most positive client-hairdresser relationships here, and that is the second most important thing I look for in a salon.

Upon arrival I was made to wait half an hour, while one staff member lazily swept up hair and the hairdresser ignored me. I used the bathroom during this time and found there was no soap. They had not just run out - there actually wasn't a soap dispenser there at all! What are they washing their hands with before touching my hair? Eventually I was called for my appointment. The 'Art Director' washed my hair and spent the entire time trying to sell me shampoo and conditioner at $60 each, and then spent about 15 minutes cutting my hair, all the while trying to sell me styling products and a hairbrush. She then told me she was late for her next client and called an assistant over to blow dry my hair. I requested a centre-parting with loose beachy waves - I got a deep side parting with strange tight ringlets bordering on dreadlocks. $112? Seriously? Don't waste your time and money - there are far superior salons in St Kilda.

The reason I come back here over and over again is thanks to the compliments I'm constantly receive for my hair. I have long, relatively straight hair that is pretty much good to go as soon as I wake up. This salon has a lovely atmosphere to it, its trendy and hip- and it makes me feel 'cool' for being there. When you enter you are greeted by whoevers at the counter, there's usually a short wait (despite having an appointment booked), and you are always offered some sort of hot beverage. The magazines here are fashionable and new (no who weekly in sight) and the area is kept clean and hair free. I get 'guy' to cut my hair, it gets washed first, then blow dried and finally cut (no wet hair cutting). Usually take close to an hour (including waiting time at the start). I love this place and will probably stick with them forever. The price is definitely on the high side, but I say it's worth it.

He actually listens to what you say, only cuts your hair into a style that suits you and - best of all - doesn't cut in a manner that hastens the onset of split ends. Currently I'm sitting on the opposite side of the world but after some disasters I'll grow out my hair and wait until he can cut it again. The salon itself is hip happening. Sometimes the staff (not Frank) can seem a tad aloof but I think they're getting better and honestly, it's probably just because they're so busy all of the time. The head massages are to die for and make up for any perceived snootiness anyhow. Parking can be a witch, but if you park out in the 2 or 4 hour lots near the train station you'll be right. Do not park in front because if you're even a millisecond late back to the car, you will get fined. I'm told that Rokk Ebony prices are expensive but I think they're reasonable, especially for the great cut you'll walk out with. Can't wait to go back.

Despite the hip, chill vibe of the surroundings the hair stylist didn't listen to me after explaining what I wanted three times over the course of the cut. I've thought long and hard about whether it was my fault for not communicating properly but I've never experienced such an acerbic reaction from a stylist before. I wanted short back and sides with a trimmed beard. Instead I got trimmed back and sides with a short beard. I was so happy and polite when I arrived, I'm not sure why it all went wrong. If a hair stylist doesn't give you what you ask for I can't see why they should charge over $70 for men's cuts. Oh well. I'm going to find a place with stylists who listen before cutting away.

I was greeted at the top of the stairs, immediately offered a cup of tea and guided over to the brightest yet most elegant chairs I have ever seen. As I hastily checked in on Yelp I realised I need not fork out my wallet to purchase a glass of champagne - you get a free one when you check-in. Woo! I was treated to a gel polish manicure on my visit and it was simply exquisite - a far cry from my usual manicures that I get from a certain chain store up the road. The whole process was slow but not tedious and incredibly relaxing. I chose my call - a bubbly pink called "fantasy". My manicurist said "Can I show you my favourite pink polish? I think you might prefer it." SHE WAS RIGHT. It was wah-aaaay better than what I chose. We had lovely chats about family and travel while I sipped my champagne and treated my nails. It was just such a lovely experience. Yes, Miss Fox is pricey however it is worth every penny. A voucher to Miss Fox is probably the best gift a gal could ask for.

The spa treatments are up another level, where the mood is even more peaceful again. The relaxation massage itself was hands down the best I've had in Melbourne/Australia. I've tried many and always been disappointed, but not here. I have extremely sensitive skin and am allergic to a number of natural products, which means facials make me really nervous and I tend to avoid them. When they're in packages I usually try to swap because when I've had them I couldn't enjoy it, feeling too unsettled about my face tingling or possibly erupting in a nasty rash as the therapist ums and errs awkwardly about whether or not it was ok. The girls at Miss Fox are incredibly professional and my therapist Cassie made me feel completely at ease that she had looked into every ingredient and put together a treatment that was going to be suitable for me. I loved it and my skin feels great, ridding my tricky combination skin of its dry patches without giving me a big breakout. If you're wondering whether it's a worthy treat yourself splurge, it absolutely is.
