Went to Mr. Wednesday's for lunch, this time around. The joint was very busy with the lunchtime crowd. We grabbed a pair of open seats at the front window. The waitress promptly arrived with cold water, and gave us a couple minutes to assess the menu. Since our first visit, my partner has been really keen on trying MW's "Sing A Rainbow [salad]" (heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, pomegranate, avocado, beetroot, blueberries, mixed greens, quinoa, roasted nuts and seeds, alfalfa, nasturtiums, and wholegrain mustard citrus dressing; A$16), so he ordered it. I went with the Jamaican Jerked Spiced Chicken Burger (jerk spiced BBQ chicken thigh, fired red pepper sauce, mixed leaves, sliced tomato, picked cucumbers, melted cheddar, aioli and corn salsa, on a toasted brioche, served with plantain crisps; A$19). Orders placed, we kicked back to enjoy the space. I couldn't help but wonder (as I stared out onto bland Wingrove Street and the train tracks beyond) what a sharp vision the owner of this place had to have, to choose this sad little spot to open a restaurant. There's really nothing of any interest -- much less visual interest! -- to bring you to this neck of the woods, and yet the place is packed on a weekday afternoon. I will admit that I did have some time to ponder my thoughts, as the service pace was quite leisurely -- almost borderline, "Uh, excuse me but we're hungry here...!" Certainly, if you had a strict 60-minute lunch break, you might have to choose elsewhere. Looking around, however, nobody seemed to be in a rush. Alas, the wait was worth it, as our orders arrived, and the flavors of our respective meals were both fantastic-tasting, as well as really unique and creative in their flavor profiles! YUM!!! I'm loving this place more with each return visit.... I can't wait to be back soon...! :D read more
