Poached Eggs on Toast: a really creative dish topped with pomegranate seeds, pepitas and more. I wasn't sure the pomegranate seeds would work, but it was perfect. Nice mix of flavors and textures. Pulled Pork Sandwich: not like pulled pork you'll find in the US as it isn't overly sweet. Jerk Fries: absolute bomb! Super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Must order! They have great coffees here so don't miss out on them. I'm not even a coffee drinker and I seriously enjoyed it. Always go for single origin!

There's a decent bakery selection as well, and service is quite prompt and friendly. They're also relatively accommodating for variations to their menu (e.g. if you didn't want something in your meal). Staff are also pretty knowledgeable about the menu. I'm not a fan of their toast though, which always seems to come out really hard and almost impossible to cut. I'm not sure why that's the case; maybe the bread is heated twice or something but there have been times when people I've eaten at G&F with have had to abandon their knives and just tear at their toast with their hands and teeth to get some. Parking is just whatever you can come by on the street, but I've usually just walked here since it's relatively local.

It was his choice of venue so he may have to be upgraded to 75c given how could Shanklin is. Shanklin is a beautiful warm pleasingly designed space with decorated in a very pleasant modern style. We were very happy to escape the cool, wet and windy Melbourne morning and we happily set ourselves up inside. The soft well chosen music playing helped make for a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. We couldn't have been happier. Various earlier reviewers have praised the staff here. It's easy to see why. They're great. I received a lovely smiling greeting as soon as I entered. The pleasant and attentive standards didn't waver through the whole experience. The staff also looked to be enjoying themselves which makes for a nice workplace as well as delighted customers. I started with a beautiful coffee, a long black with accompanying mini jug of cold milk which was made to an excellent level. I took advice on food, due to difficulty of choosing between the Shanklin breakfast - essentially the big brekkie - the baked eggs and the signature dish, Eggs and Shanklish. I chose the last which is scrambled eggs with fresh herbs, cherry tomatoes, spring onion, wilted spinach and mint. I added bacon and avocado as well. Cracking dish. Lovely flavours. Immensely satisfying. Lovely texture, beautiful flavours, generous serve. It met every need. 75c had the Portobello Mushroom which sounded and looked fantastic. He declared it superb with an authority that excluded all argument. We shared a Madfish sparking over our brunches. Delicious it was too. It went very nicely with the food. I can why people like me travel a little out of the way to get to Shanklin. It's a very, very good cafe bistro. Everything operates in impressive harmony. That's why it was buzzing today. I'm a little surprised to see people queuing at Axil when this paradise awaits upstairs next door, don't get me wrong I love Axil, but this place is pretty stunning. But please don't tell them, it's rare to be able to get a seat outside on a gorgeous sunny deck under an umbrella surrounded by trees and a veggie garden in Melbourne without a queue. The food has never disappointed. From the porridge and oats to the cooked breakfasts, I always enjoy my meal. Good specials on offer too, on the weekend I had corn and ricotta fritters with heirloom tomato salad and avocado cream, it was the goods and I'd love to see it on the menu. Their coffee offering is pretty solid, from the standard milky affair to the fancy filter stuff I don't understand but order to impress our interstate guests with my Melbourneness. Their green smoothies are tasty too. The staff are great with a sense of humour that I really enjoy, the owners in particular are cool (banter with them is a highlight for me), they're friendly and it's a family affair and they welcome families alike. But don't worry this place isn't overrun with yummy mummies, it's not really overrun with any 'type' it's just full of people who enjoy good food in breezy, relaxing surrounding.
