Cute little bar in the middle of nowhere! This is my friend's favorite bar so we made a trip out here even if it's a bit far from everything and it was worth it! The decor is moody-in a good way. Candles are the only thing lighting the place and the rest of the decor is somewhat rustic. The bathroom uses pipe water, for goodness sake. I was also amazed that every table had real flowers...how often do they have to change it!!?!? This place is super trendy and fairly quiet. I do wish they had an indoor no-smoking policy because the smell of smoke was getting to be a bit much in the small area. Unlike so many other spots in the area, Hotel is one of those bars that is actually open before 8 or 9 p.m., making it an ideal spot to pop into for post-work drinks with a friend. In fact, this can work to your advantage in a place like this, because seating is ultra limited and fills up fast. The bar itself is small, quaint, rustic. There are two levels, everything is candlelight, and the atmosphere is cosy. The drinks are also inexpensive. It can get a bit smokey though... not my favourite. Musicians play here often, and I can't even imagine how packed the place is then. Your best bet is to come on a week day. Late nights and weekends? Well, you're taking your chances. read more

Holy schmetterlingsflügel! - One of the best drinks I've had in a long time! Go here, and have a Basil Gin slam! You will NOT regret it. Unless you enjoy it a bit too much and end up regretting everything the morning after! The atmosphere is great, with curious interior and practically only candles to light it up. I've only been twice (so far), but on the one occasion there was a pianist who was playing on the piano in the corner. Don't know if that's a thing though. Only remonstrance would be that it is quite packed which is, however, understandable, with that Basil Gin Slam action they've got going on. read more

I love this spot. It's one of the first bars I came to when I moved to Berlin and though I don't go there too often, I always have a nice time. They have a good selection of libations, even stocking some Don Julio on the shelf!! Obviously zee Germans are not, by default, a fine tequila culture. So when you find a bar that has the good sh*t, you don't forget it. As far as atmosphere goes, the music in this place is always wonderful. Normally some ragged, broke down jazz that suits a bar like this just right. The crowd is generally friendly, but I find it suits me on the nights where I prefer a civil night out. The place does not lend it self to getting messy or letting it all hang out otherwise. The only thing I do not like about this bar is how awfully warm and smokey it gets. I'm a smoker and it's STILL too much for me to handle for more than an hour... tops. I think it suits winter moods more than summer. Overall highly recommended. Apparently they own a little cafe 2 doors down and while I have only read the menu, it looks amazing and I've heard only good things. Even that they have a really proper burrito. Go there! read more

I've seen this place a few times, as it's right around the corner from my house. It's extremely tiny; the ground level is about the size of my kitchen and when you walk up the steps, the area wraps around behind the bar. The entire joint must fit about 20 people comfortably. TINY. No electric lights in here. The entire bar is candlelit, making it an EXTREMELY sexy place. Beers were pretty cheap, starting at 2.50€ for a Pilsner. You can smoke in here, which is always a plus for me :) They played jazz in the background and we must have been the oldest people in there at 28 and 31. If this place existed in San Francisco or NYC, shit would have BLOWN UP. But in Berlin, it just seemed like just another solid bar. I'd definitely go back here. Fantastic little place with the best drinks I've had in a long while. Everything from a simple Gin & Tonic to Whisky sour and Old fashioned tasted as it should taste and all the drinks had a nice touch. Great cocktails! The places gets packed so I suggest you get there early to find a place to sit as it is small but at the same time being small gives it a cozy feeling. I love and I hate it. NIce music, great athmosphere, decent cocktails but way too tiny and smoker go wild. I was with some smoker friends and even them couldn't breath in there. If it was for me it would be easily a 4 starts place, my asthma says 0. We both agreed on a 2,5, 3 during Sommer. Onwards. read more

Das Hotel is a lovely little spot that draws a very international crowd. My favorite thing about it is music. The staff, who are really nice and also huge music fans, have live music upstairs (usually solo or duos), and bands downstairs. In the winter it CAN get a bit too smokey for me, but that's Berlin. read more

We hit up Das Hotel for a quick drink to start off the evening (if that's what you can call it when it's dark by 4 PM), and, perhaps because many others were similarly like-minded, it was already nearly packed at 4:30 PM when we showed up. Only the back room had any space, and the bartender / server (who seemed to be literally the only employee there) quickly set it up for us. The candles, which are dipped briefly in its own wax to hold them in place, give the place a nice, dim lighting - as well as doubling as probably one of the bigger fire hazards I have seen. The confines are cozy, and the upkeep of the place certainly has a bit of a retro / intentionally degraded feel to it, with chipped walls and ceilings abound and graffiti of all kinds marking the walls. It is pure Berlin, and that's kind of cool...except for the toilets, which are not in great shape (the one I used was already partially clogged due to someone trying to flush paper towels). The cocktail selection listed is pretty standard, although if you pitch an idea of what you are interested in, the bartender pitches some ideas to you to settle upon - which is how my wife ended up with a Horse's Neck (a lighter cocktail that uses ginger beer to take the edge off the bourbon). I went with a mojito, which in truth was a bit too sugary, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless, especially with the crunchiness from the sugar. I also liked that in everyone's cocktail, there was a lot more fruit than I was used to seeing - certainly was nice to have something to nibble on while imbibing and pondering the fastest way to get out if a candle tipped over by accident. I'd love to come back to try more drinks, particularly if there was any way to come by and grab a seat when it was less crowded. But if you can get a spot, make sure to stay a while, soak in the atmosphere (and your drink) and enjoy a place that is definitely not quite like any other cocktail bar that you have been to from an ambiance standpoint. read more

This is a reaaaaally chill, out of the ordinary and eccentric bar. Although it's comprised of three main rooms (all of which are relatively small), Das Hotel has a cozy and fun vibe and served to be a great hangout place on a Saturday night. My only qualm is the drinks are a bit on the pricey side for Berlin. read more
