Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Berlin! This gorgeous beer garden was much needed as my group decided to have a relaxing slower day compared to the rest of our Europe trip. We came in the early afternoon of a weekday, so it wasn't too crowded and it was before the cover charge started. The view of the city isn't crazy or anything, but it's still charming. Finding the place was a tad tricky. All I knew is that it was at the top of the parking garage. So we found an elevator and went as high as it could (4th floor I think). Then we walked up to the top from there. Plenty of seating! Yes, there are bathrooms. And you order drinks inside and order coffee at the side window. There's also another area towards the back that you can order drinks at too, if inside is too busy! Overall beautiful spot, that tourists like myself are definitely beginning to frequent with a mix of locals.

Great roof top bar in Berlin Located in a different area of Berlin Not close to the city Hard to find because it's not a traditional roof top bar it's in a shopping mall and you have to go through the parking lot to find it. We just followed the crowd because of course everything is in German. Once you find it you will definitely want to stay, meet some people, have some drinks and enjoy the view. There's a cover charge after a certain time of the day... I believe it's 3€ per person. This place has indoor and outdoor seating The decor is whacky and original my kind of place for sure it's hipster and divey. There's a live band inside and funky decor Bar snacks are available for purchase but limited to fries, small sandwiches and pretzels. Wide selection of beers and you have to put a deposit for the glass which you will get back once you return the beer glass. Smoking is permitted.. I mean it's Europe that's a given. A must see in Berlin!!! Will come back soon!

The entire experience is very Berliner. Of course it's what 36 hours in Berlin by New York Times destination as well. It's at the top of a parking garage. Sunday afternoon after 4 is the best in the summer to go as it's still very much bright out and it's not too crowded. Kids get in for free and adults is 3 Euro per. I think the view is spectacular, the roof top biergarten and food is a very hip thing, certainly in New York it is, very rare occurrence in San Francisco (you forgot how quaint and homey small town the city of San Francisco is) until you leave for abroad. This is the quintessential Berlin summer experience. Bier is exceptionally cheap in Germany and remarkably good, get them on draft if you can. I sat inside vs. out, the outside spots were all taken. The inside had tables and D.J. spinning western Africa music, so it felt chill. There are also big tall chairs at the top of the stairs inside of the club room, I suppose it gets crowded in the evenings as this place open from noon to 1 am. There are also your typical wurst and sauerkraut bar food, which were simple and good. Walk about and take photos around the city, it's a 360 degree view and it's boarding if not already in the former east Berlin zone, judging by the street name of Karl Marx. Yelp is fairly big here, you get good recommendations for places to go, but Kunkerkranich is both touristy and localvore. Now go and repeat this experience elsewhere and write about it on New York Times so that I can go and visit here next time. There is a good chance I'd return to Berlin, as I've started browsing for real estate condo prices. Retirement in France and Germany seem like a good idea just about now.

Super cool vibe, reasonably priced drinks and amazing views. This place is a bit out of the main tourist area and a bit hard to find (walk through a shopping centre and car park) but well worth the trip. Out of everywhere I visited in Berlin this place had the best view. We got there at 7.30 and there was a 5 euro cover charge it was also extremely busy, but that's to be expected. My only complaint is I think they either needed more food stalls or more people cooking the food, because it was about a 40 minute wait in line. Overall, I'd definitely go back here

This was one of the highlights of my visit to Berlin. The top level of a parking lot converted into a rooftop bar -- wut? Such an original idea, beautiful Berlin views and awesome drinks. 4€ admission fee, stamp on your hand, and a €2 fee on drinks to ensure that you return the glass. There were tons of people but it's such a large space that you'll find a bench for your group of friends to sit at anyway. Loved the vibe and the live music playing from the inner part of the bar. See it for yourself.

The newest - and possibly greatest - rooftop bar in Berlin. Klunkerkranich is a community garden, bar, grill and live music venue built atop a parking garage. In a word, it's glorious. The views are unparalleled. You have a nearly unobstructed view in all directions. There is a ridiculous amount of space and seating available, but they are constrained in the number of people allowed in at any given time. If you don't want to wait in line, I'd arrive before 7pm. They start charging 3 EUR for entry at 6pm anyways, so fortune favors the early arrivals. Although simply finding the place is a challenge onto itself, I'll save future visitors the hassle and confusion- go into the mall and take the lift up to the 5th floor. Exit and walk out towards the back left of the garage. Eventually you'll see the ramp for the roof which acts as the main entrance and bag check. Would if I could hang out here every sunny summer afternoon!

    Dat interior doe! Love it.

Very nice place to have a wine or some beer with friends. If the weather is kind I recommend you to go during daytime there and enjoy the view and the wood furniture outside. On cold days I prefere going inside and have my wine with some club music. The drinks are good and fair priced. BUT if you want to go inside you have to pay an entrance fee of 3€. The atmosphere is very... Berlin. Dunno how to describe it otherwise. You have mixed furtniture there. Everything looks selfcrafted and rough. It's definitely not a chic cocktailbar but that's ok because I hate them. When I was there a live DJ played some mixtape and it reminded me more of a club. I can't give this place 5 stars because of 1.) The music was nice but a tiny bit too loud. I had tp yell at my friend who was sitting next to me so she could hear me 2.) Only one white wine. It was an ok one, the price was fair and yeah actually I am not allowed to complain but... yeah... you know it won't hurt to have at least a choice between two you know. 3.) It's a tiny adventure to get there to be honest. :D I had loads of fun to wander around that parking house with my friends but a few might be pissed by that. I will definitly come back to this bar.

One of the best spots we visited in Berlin! Rooftop bar with planters and live music. Pro-tip: the bar is the highest level of the parking garage for the mall. Take the elevator or escalator to p5 and then walk up the car ramp to the sixth level. The bar covers the entire top level of the parking garage and has various booths for serving drinks. We came here on a chillier night during the week but can only imagine that on sunny days during the weekend all booths are open. There was live music booked for the night so we paid 5€ instead of the usual 3€ cover charge. I like to support musicians and the musicians they booked for the venue were well worth the additional 2€. You can't miss this spot when in Berlin. Really a must-see and must-experience.

Very cool space! I heard about this rooftop beer garden through NYT travel right before my most recent trip to Berlin. I told my brother about it but he dismissed it as too hipster and wasn't interested. So on the one day that I was out on my own I decided to stop there for a beer before heading back home. I definitely liked the space and the super laid back vibe. The view is just ok but drinking on a rooftop on a nice day with friends is always a pleasure. The one annoying aspect would be the cover charge (entrance fee) since there are so many great drinking spots in Berlin that don't require a fee just to enter.

A Berliner friend of mine told me to meet her at this funky rooftop bar and although finding my way up to it from the U-Bahn was rather confusing, it was an incredibly cool place. Got a beer and sat outside and watched the sunset while the DJ inside played some funky music. I am excited for it to warm up so I can take a trip back there and not have my hands become icicle once the sun is down. The sunset was incredible and you can see the entire city. Even an amazing place to check out if only for the view! Although having a drink there makes the experience a little more fun.

    An absolutely breathtaking view.

Gems like this remind me again and again how and why I am so infatuated with this city. There is no contest--Klunkerkranich is easily my favorite rooftop bar that I've been to. There's a certain inexplicable charm about it. Maybe this is due to the fact that the bar is located atop a parking deck (head to the 5th floor, then follow the ramp up), and entirely composed of furniture and finishings that look as if they could have been put together by your less-than-handy father in your backyard. The place is unpretentious and absolutely radiating with originality and creativity. There's a certain undone-ness about it that really works to create the most casual, hip, and fun environment. It's the perfect place to catch a summer sunset, and yesterday, I did just that. The view, compared to other spots I've visited in the city, is unrivaled--especially on a clear day. Word to the wise, however, if you're looking to come on a mild day, do come early. There is a 3 Euro cover, so if you're hoping to secure a seat with an overlook worthy of your change, definitely plan ahead. The drinks, as most Yelpers have already noted I'm sure, are a bit steep for Neukölln, but it's nothing too ridiculous. That is, however, coming from an LA native, so be sure to take that note with a large grain of salt. I happened to pop on by when there was a live jazz band, and to be honest, I don't really know why I settle for watching the sunset any other way, at any other place, or on any other rooftop. Klunkerkranich is truly an unpretentious and beyond special little diamond in the rough, and it's dying to be found...so go. Find it. And enjoy!

This is the second bar on a rooftop of a mall parking garage. Both are great. However, this is the best one. Fantastic idea. It should happen in California. We have so many malls without cool rooftop bars. Rooftop bars should spread to malls everywhere. This one kid a live jazzband. Fantastic view of the city from here auch.

What a cool spot. Thanks to The NY Times 36 hours in Berlin, I found this spot. So happy I did. The views are fantastic and the atmosphere is so lovely. I loved how the space catered to so many different groups of people. My friends and I got couple drinks and I wished I would've tried some of the chips but the line was just way too long. If I ever come back I'd try their brunch. Very impressed, y'all are doing a stellar job.

On my way to get a drink at a neighboring bar, I saw this place and decided to sit in their cofy vintage furniture outside with a beer. Honestly, the place looks exactly like 3 or 4 other bars that have cropped up in Boddinstrasse: random furniture from the nearest Flohmarkt, just one Pilsner on tap, a shabby paint job and bartenders that are sweet and almost too relaxed. Some people get really annoyed by these type of Berlin bars and frown down upon these sorts of establishments. Personally, I actually enjoy them, especially when comparing them with the type of sterile bars popping up in Mitte. Everything is nicely understated and the atmosphere is condusive for a nice chat with a group of friends around some cheap beers. After all - what more do you really need? They seem to have some freshly-squeezed lemonade on the menu, but I will have to come back another time to give it a shot.

Lerchen+Eulen is one of these places. it's been one of my go-to spots in this neighborhood for years and i don't see that changing. Svenja's review is right on: there are plenty of bars like this around Berlin --cozy secondhand furniture jumbled together like a bad Tetris game, warm low lighting, great coffee+alcohol-- but the specific details set it apart. the staff are amazingly friendly (seriously, i wonder where they find these saints!), their cakes are always delicious and the perfect balance to their coffee, and you can get whatever kind of seat your little heart desires: curling-up-with-book benchseats in the big windows, working-with-laptop table seats, barstools for hanging with the bartenders, cuddling-sofas, and outdoor tables in summer for people-watching. it's a great spot for most times: earlier in the day, it's mellower and emptier (and less like a smokehouse), so is nice for working or catching up with friends. the wooden-tiled floors (very cool!) and brick archways, the old jazz and blues on the stereo, the old chairs and wooden tables decorated with fresh flowers and candles in big jars, make the space feel somehow a bit like a country inn during the day, a perfect pause from the bustle of the Markthalle next door. when Lerchen+Eulen fills with people at night, the dense layout and multiple rooms make for a wonderful coziness for huddling together...and Drinking (with a capital 'D'). Svenja's right, their Moscow Mules hold their own, but they're also one of the few bars in the area to serve the delicious local Potsdamer Stange beer from the Braumanufaktur. all in all, a perfect addition to your full weekend ritual on Pücklerstrasse: stop by the Pony Hütchen for second-hand gear+furniture, then the Markthalle Neun for groceries+lunch, then to Lerchen+Eulen for all your caffeinated and alcoholic needs...
