Ted's Plumbing & Heating

Ted's Plumbing & Heating

I hired Ted to remove my old water heater and boiler. To be replaced with a Navien. Ted seemed to…read morebe on the ball, he was pleasant and polite, came over with the estimate and we agreed to proceed. Things started to go off the rails. Ted's assistant was supposed to be there the two days it took to finish up and test the new equipment. He wasn't there the second day, Ted said the assistant was sick and he had no other workers because they never showed up, Low and behold at the day's end his worker showed up in another of Ted's trucks and showed photos of a project he was working on in a new condo development. That was where he was working all day, not sick. I asked Ted if his helper was a relative and he denied it, said he was one of his workers. Meanwhile, Ted had mixed up the wires on the computer panel, he came out with his assistant and fixed it. I'd asked him to put in a new kitchen faucet which he did. We woke up at midnight to find the pipes under the sink unattached because he'd cut it wrong, We had a good foot of HOT water throughout the bottom floor and spent all night sweeping it out of the back door and using a pile of towels, If we hadn't discovered the flood until morning my house would be been trashed, the furniture, the walls, the carpet, curtains. As it was, my next water bill etc was way above normal. Ted was reluctant to come out but did at my insistence and my son showed him the pipe. All Ted could say was oh I cut that wrong. NO apologies. The floor in the sink cabinet is ruined and I will need to pay a carpenter to try to replace the damage. Each time I'd called Ted he made excuses as to why he couldn't come out and the old excuse, "So and So is sick, I have no help". Like a mantra. I called once because the heat wasn't on. He mumbled about why he couldn't come out, not anytime soon. I said I have a warranty and you need to honor it. If you don't I will consider getting a lawyer. "Do what you have to do" he said, blowing me off and saying "perhaps" he could come out next week. He didn't. Pinocchio comes to mind. I won't contact him again for warranty work. I'd paid the invoice promptly, I should have been treated like a valued customer instead of being fobbed off with lies and excuses. It most certainly gives me the right to say NO I do not recommend.

In November, i had to temporarily leave Taos to care for a sick family member in California…read more Leaving my partner, with advanced MS, to deal with a well problem that arouse. What happened was that the water table has changed, and like all my neighbors, was seeing silt, so raise the pump. Ted came out and told her that the pump was old and needed replacing....btw, it always worked like a charm, never a problem. She authorized a new pump. Now, he subcontracted a group of men and rarely showed. I spoke with him and he said he would measure the water table and place the new pump accordingly. When i returned, the silt in the water was 500% worse then before i left. He told me that it needed time to run through the pipes, and it was then i knew i was in trouble. You see, the well is only 30 feet from the house and the well room is in the house itself...one short pipe, that's it. I brought a trusted expert friend in from Denver, who tested the old pump...it was fine. Now, in the meantime i discovered on the other side of the house, in the carport, a huge green tarp, gone. And next to the shed, a new 150ft hose on a reel, gone. We have cameras throughout the area near the house, and there on the tape was two different well workers, subcontracted by Ted, taking the tarp and hose on two seperate occasions, bringing them to their trucks, never to be seen again. It took me literally ten days and over twenty phone call attempts, leaving messages, to reach Ted. He told me that he didn't measure the water table, the pump was placed in the same spot, not raised out of silt range. I didn't mention at that time about the thefts, caught on camera. He told me to call him on Tueday (it was then Thursday) to set-up a time for him to come out. I asked him why not just set-up an appointment there and then, and he deferrred to Tuesday. You guessed it...he never answered my calls ever again, just blew me off. BTW...i paid him almost $1,400 in November. Bottom line.....at the very least, he's a liar and a flake and incompetent and hires thieves that will steal from your property if given the opportunity. Avoid like an anti-masker with Covid.

Then they gave us a bill for almost $2000 in labor. 2 plumbers for 4 hours to 'troubleshoot' that cost us 1000$, and 4 plumbers for 4 hours the next day. The owner of the company refused to talk to us. He credited us 4 hours for 2 plumbers but our bill was still over 2k and way more than the repair was worth. Also the plumbers never called us to approve the repairs and cost. They just racked up hours on our backs and the boss stood behind them. To add insult to injury they tried to charge us a late fee on the bill after they were the ones to never call us back. We will never use them again and recommend that you use any other plumber but them

After two weeks of waiting, I ordered the hot water heater from Lowe's and had another plumber install it. The the plumber charged $250 and the unit cost $1100. The total was less than $1400. I just received a bill from Phoenix $161.25 for the technician's trip to confirm that I had a leak. The estimate on the bill to have the water heater replaced with parts and labor by Phoenix was $4425. Tell me why anyone would hire them ?

I don't recall phoning Valverde, thus confusion regarding what type of service provider was calling, as I have made many calls to a few types of repair people for multiple quotes. When I asked for clarity, the person on the other end of the line was rude in response... within the first 10 seconds. Ok, I'll let that slide--maybe he hasn't had his coffee yet. During the call, as we were discussing the replacement of kitec plumbing--a well documented safety risk with a class-action lawsuit that makes homes uninsurable--the owner was rude in tone. I got the impression that our phone call was annoying to him, and he likely thinks I am stupid. He asserts that the recalled plumbing is fine unless visibly leaking and "its basic" to tell if it leaks. This information is demonstrably FALSE as documented clearly in the class action suit. I let him go mid call. Not only is he rude, but misinforming a potential customer in a negligent manner. Hopefully his license covers negligence, as he might need it. If I am going to give someone tens of thousands of dollars to do work in my home, it is reasonable to expect a basic level of respect during the first phone call (and beyond). After speaking to the presumed owner, I feel bad for whomever the nice secretary is. She must be on the receiving end of his customer service skills all day. I will never call this company again.

The smell was completely gone when he arrived. His conclusion as he left was I needed to replace the heating system. When I returned I called Valverde/Bond Plumbing and spoke with Lacey and asked if they might come out and look at the system. This was on a Friday and they were booked but Lacey called me back several times that day to say they were trying to get to me. By 5pm the service Tech John Montoya was at my house. I told him about the skunk smell the week before and he thought one probably sprayed near the house and the smell came into the basement from the vents. He turned the gas back on and spent an hour checking all the gas lines, thermostat etc. and said nothing was wrong with the boiler. He turned the gas back on and installed a carbon monoxide detector I had purchased. This was a month ago and the boiler has been working perfectly so no new Heat system needed after all. Thank you Larry Mapes owner of Valverde Energy/Bond Plumbing for hiring hard working, caring and skilled people.
