Their charges are outrageous. Do not use them. They over charge for everything from installation to any services.

The chimney cleaning was just fine and the staff was professional. Estimate for chimney liner installation and firebox repair was extraordinarily high and they were totally unwilling to discuss alternative approaches. Furthermore, they would not provide a range of estimates for possible subsequent work. The feeling was that they were upselling their services with no compromise or discussion. We subsequently had three more estimates done by licensed contractors, all coming in at less than one third of Bailey's (incomplete) estimate. We had our chimney cleaned (Great job), and then later a high tech woodstove insert put into our firebox. This was a complex job, as it involved cutting through masonry to expand the opening, removing the old firebox, new flue liner, etc.. Dryer vent cleaning at the suggestion of another pro...Leroy at Premier appliance Repair. Scheduling was easy and I was advised twice about the scheduled work so that I couldn't forget... Justin and his assistant showed up an hour early...actually a nice surprise. They had all needed tools and supplies on hand. They started working promptly. After looking at our situation...a 25 year old venting system that had been cleaned maybe twice before, Justin offered some sage counsel which amounted to using a different approach to connecting our dryer to the thru wall roof top exit point. It required some new fittings and tubing but improved every aspect of the connection and greatly enhanced air flow from the dryer. The work took about an hour including detail cleaning the dryer back, and floor underneath. I could immediately tell the difference in dryer performance...it almost breathed a sigh of relief. These guys are good, smart, thorough and welcome here anytime. I paid them before they left and felt as if I'd gotten good value for the price. read more

I had requested them to inspect the outside top red clay tile liner that had cracked last year and a good cleaning. I was quoted all aspects upfront of what I requested. They did an amazing job on the cleaning. The red clay top sleeve needs to be replaced, I knew that but he stated the rest of the liner's are good. I was given advice on things I asked could I work with, and at no time was I advised to do more (upsell for $$$$$). Few small cracks in the mortor in the file place I will fix easily. I cannot recommend this company enough. Everything was kept super clean, incredibly courteous. I think the honesty is what surprised me. After recently having the roof repaired and the various efforts to get me to do major work when it was not needed. Bailey's told me the other liner's in my chimney are good, minor build up that was cleansed, so that's all he advised to replace. People, there are so many poor trades people out there, but not this one. My tradesman was Anthony. And as you all know, to find a true worker like this in Santa Fe is rare. So many half assed people out there. Go get your quotes if you feel you need to do so, but I recommend Bailey's for their honesty. He could have fooled me to replace even more chimney liner's but he didn't. Honesty, on time, good phone communication, cleanliness and good work. I had a chimney inspected and was satisfied the flue needed to be replaced based on the interior photographs and explanation of the issues provided to me and the extent to which internet research validated the conclusion reached. Internet research did suggest the price quoted was a bit on the high side, but, since I was told that was partly because I have a 2-story house, I accepted the proposal. What do I know about it, as a practical matter? The work was done on schedule, the workers were very professional and careful, particularly with regard to not getting the house dirty, they communicated well, and, though only time will tell, I have no reason not to believe the work was satisfactorily completed. HOWEVER, I take serious issue with the company's pricing policy (I've expressed myself to the company's owner; it appears we've agreed to disagree). I was told that the job would take 2 days with a crew of 2. So 32 hours of labor (the "lead" at $99/hour and the "helper" at $49/hour) were built into my fixed-price contract - nearly $2,500 if one adds NM's sales tax. However, when the crew arrived, the "lead" said right at the outset that he expected to be finished the same day. When I told him I'd been charged for 2 days, he said "well, sometimes jobs take an hour or two on the 2nd day". But it seemed clear from his tone of voice that that was a rare occasion in his experience. The "lead" called me about 8:10 to say they were at the office or warehouse loading up. At midday, he said they were taking an hour's break for lunch and things were going much more quickly than expected. While I wasn't home when they left, my wife was and told me it was before 3:00. So portal-to-portal the job took 7 hours or so - 14 total man hours, not the 32 for which I was charged. I don't have a "Better Business Bureau" type of complaint because the firm's firm-price policy was disclosed in the contract. I have paid the invoice because I don't want to contest it, though I am an attorney and believed there may have been plausible grounds to do so. Life is too short, as it were. However, what disturbs me is that the firm has superior knowledge as to how long a job ought to take (I have none, never having replaced a flue before), the "lead" told me that only a few jobs take an hour or 2 on a 2nd day (which suggests to me that the firm knows that only rarely does a job take more than a day, and then not much more), and in light of those things, charging a person for 2 full days lacking sufficient background, training and experience to have any idea whatsoever how much time the job ought to take was unfair. In effect, to the tune of about $1,400, or more than a quarter of the contract price, I subsidized cost overruns on other jobs and/or simply increased the company's profitability. It would be much more reasonable to have a pricing structure of "$X"/hour, not to exceed "$Y" $, where "$Y" was the 32-hour 2-day labor charge plus a bit more to cover the rare job where more than 2 days was required. That way most customers would be charged fairly for the actual labor time involved, while there would be a cushion to protect the company for the apparently small percentage of jobs where it underestimates the time required. That, of course, is going to happen sometimes due to unforeseen field conditions. I suggested that approach to the owner, but got no response. So I guess what I consider to be a far more equitable approach in dealing with customers not in a position to negotiate intelligently isn't in his best interests. As recompense for the extra $1,400 or so in labor charges I paid I was offered a free chimney cleaning "in the summer" (presumably when work is slow). I declined because I know because of my disagreement with the firm's pricing policy that I won't do business with it again. To accept a free cleaning would be taking advantage of it in a way (some might say simply "returning the favor" given how taken advantage of I feel). So I guess the word to the wise is "get a 2nd or 3rd opinion", at least about the amount of time the job should take. Obviously I feel strongly about this situation. I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews, particularly when, as I suggested at the outset, the work itself was performed as scheduled, carefully, and, apparently, satisfactorily. But I think this review is well-deserved. read more

Arrived on time. One gentleman was on the phone so I showed the other one where the chimney was around back. I cautioned him that we have two cats and both will escape if let out. I go back in the house and the second gentleman walks in our front door and leaves it wide open. One cat escapes and I have to chase him down in the side yard. Since I recently had a hip replacement the chase was extremely painful for me. Once I captured the cat I instructed the gentleman that him out not to enter my house again. His response was I needed to lock our cats in a room. Our chimney was clean and didn't need cleaning so I told them to leave. They will never be allowed to return to our home. read more

This company rates excellent, from the first point of contact, through and including their bill. My call was answered by Durinda, who understood the business and was adept at explaining the process and the charges I would incur to have a dead animal removed from one of my fireplaces. I was able to get an appointment within 24 hours of my initial contact. The serviceman advised me when he was running 20 minutes late. He contacted me again after the service was complete and explained exactly what had been done. I was efficiently billed by email and the charges for such quick and efficient service were fair and reasonable. I called with a weird emergency- an animal had crawled into my dryer (through the vent) and died and was rotting, stinking up the whole house something awful! I called Bailey's and the dispatcher told me they would be there in about 2 hours; they arrive early. Since I had purchased a new dryer already, they pulled the old dryer out and set it outside for me, cleaned the ducts, fixed and adjusted the venting, taped up the holes, and cleaned up neatly. I was quoted 109.00 for my chimney cleaning. After arriving, I was told it was another 29.00 to vac. out the chimney box because he would have to 'crawl' up the chimney. I don't think so. After looking at the chimney I was told it did not need cleaning. I was still given a bill for 89.00. 89.00!!? So it was only 20.00 to actually clean the chimney...the 89.00 was to drive to my house!? Come on..... read more

They spent a lot of time explaining why we were having the problems we're experiencing and making suggestions on how to make improvements. They are obviously very knowledgeable and it truly seemed to matter to them that we learned what we needed to do and understood why. Typically when I need my wood stove swept, I check the five or six local businesses and see who does the work least expensively because they all basically do the same work, right? Well that isn't correct. Bailey's is far and above the best of all of them(and I have tried them all). First off, they actually answer their phone. Plus.They send you a email reminder of your appointment. Plus. They are completely professional, clean, on time, polite and well trained and certified. Plus again. But the most important factor is that they actually do a better job than the competition, removing all of the creosote and then they give you a report on your wood stove/chimney letting you know if there are any deficiencies that they recommend at some point you take care of. No hard sell though. Just informative. Are they the cheapest? Well no. Is it worth paying just a little bit more to have it done right? In my opinion, absolutely! read more
