When COVID hit and I had 2 kids, I took a hiatus from BJJ for a few years. When I returned to the sport, I knew I was going to be picky about where I chose my next gym to be. Joining Sunnyvale Jiu Jitsu was a no brainer for me. The vibes: immaculate. It's no surprise that with little to no marketing or online presence to date, they've been able to build up a solid base of students (both new as well as transfers from other schools) simply through word of mouth. It is a family friendly environment, with high skill and low ego. The quality of instruction: top notch. A lot of gyms you go to teach haphazardly at best. Jian probably spends more time thinking about the best way to structure his classes than he does on anything else. He's familiar with everyone's individual style and is always looking to help optimize their specific game. The training: tough. There are enough high level people here that I can go through an entire 2 hour open mat only rolling with brown and black belts if I wanted to.

They are both more aware and more in control of their bodies, which was a big deal for my older girl, as she sprouted quickly and lost her confidence and her ability to control her new body in the same way that she had when she was younger. Learning the specific skills, as well as getting great coaching, meeting new friends and having fun has been a major confidence booster for both of my girls! They love coming each day and even continue practicing with their dad at home on new skills they are perfecting. They love sparring with their peers at different levels of skill and push themselves to improve daily. Triune has been a major positive influence to their confidence, their listening skills, and their attitudes towards everything! They absolutely love coming daily and plan to continue working towards more advancement. The coaches are phenomenal and pay special attention with the smaller ones and make sure the kids are pushed, but safely and effectively, so they learn and are eager to be able to do more. Every day is different and all levels working together allows the newcomers to gain skill while the more advanced practice and learn - it's a really good set-up that I was originally unsure of, but it works! My girls get to work with more skilled kids and it pushes them to want to be better! When working with the younger, less skilled kids, mine are better able to hone their technique of the moves and more skillfully apply that knowledge when sparring. No day is the same and they get bummed when they miss a day! Triune is THE best thing I've done for my kids!! They love it and it's helping them outside class, even when they don't recognize it!! 5 STARS AND THEN SOME!!

My experience with their kids' program has been nothing short of exceptional, hats off to the incredible instructor, Travis! From day one, it was evident that Travis was not only highly skilled in Krav Maga but also knew the knack of teaching and working with children. Whether a child was struggling with a technique or excelling at it, Travis was present very watchfully, providing guidance, support, and positive reinforcement. One of the things that stood out to me the most was Travis's ability to create a supportive and encouraging environment for the kids. Moreover, he has a unique talent for breaking down complex techniques into simple, easy-to-understand steps, making it accessible and observable for children of all skill levels. What stood out to me in particular was his own values, principles and attitude which in my opinion are of paramount importance especially while teaching life skills to others. Beyond his technical expertise, Travis also instilled important values such as team work, discipline, respect, and self-confidence in the children. Through his teaching, my child not only gained valuable self-defense skills but also developed a sense of empowerment and self-assurance that extends beyond the mat. Beth, who is also an instructor and helps with the front desk, is extremely patient and helpful with any questions and a great teacher herself from the classes I've observed!
