It's been 13 years since my neck surgery and still going strong. Dr Bergey fixed what others just wanted to put a band-aid on. Replaced my c-5 disc and fused my c-6 and c7. I was able to work another 9 years until retirement. ( many other work comp doctors simply wanted to force me to retire and said surgery wouldn't fix my issues). Dr Bergey was a lifesaver because I was at wits end after living with debilitating pain for 20 years. Went to my appointment today. Had to show off my "new knee" because that's what it feels like a "new knee"!!! I just love the outcome of my surgery. Got me doing squats (without weights... not a body builder... just an old lady) I go into this office looking forward to seeing everyone! I won't be able to say enough about Doctor Bergey . I do know I was in for blown disks in the neck . I appreciated the professionalism of his staff and the class of care . I went into surgery c2 - c6 repair couple years ago . Today I have full motion in my neck only limited to my neck down to chest position . Pain is minimal if any at all. Horrible surgery, not on time for surgery, punctured spinal sec, caused infection that required numerous subsequent surgery. Had to seek another surgeon to clean up his mess. Consider another dr. If you need any surgery. Also make arrangements for a good attorney ahead of time as you may be in a wheel chair. read more

Dr. Bergey has a office in Indio. I noticed that there weren't any recent reviews for that office. I am a new patient, and have relocated to La Quinta. I was referred to him after leaving my PTP who I was seeing for 10yrs. Although this review is difficult to do because of my right arm radiating pain, and it may take me twice as long, I thought it was important to do. Although I am a surgical candidate for a 3rd C-spine surgery, Dr. Bergey reviewed and discussed my CD results and wants to do pre-testing to ensure the problems I am having is due to the severe pain is arising from the level and area in question. He echoed everything a high end doc from Cedars Sinai had recommended, and me previously being in the work comp biz I was impressed by his detail and precautions he wanted to take prior to saying I would be ready. I have suffered multiple injuries throughout the yrs and have visited top end doctors because being in the biz you learn who they are. It may be a wait to see him, but that is usually how it is with the good ones. As long as they are willing to spend the time with you, make you feel that they are doing what they can for you,and are willing to help you. This was my first visit, I am hoping this is a good sign for a great start to help me make the right decisions. The office staff was professional, kind and very helpful. read more

Be wary. I haven't walked without aid since my back surgery several years ago. And now the pain is back. Did Dr. Bergey screw up? I don't know, but I almost died in the aftermath. Got weaker and weaker till I got to a point where I couldn't even eat. Spent months in the hospital and a nursing home/rehab center before gaining enough strength back to go home. If the surgery is still questionable, the aftercare is not. It sucked. I was delegated to a PA who had not a clue why I was in decline and didn't really seem interested in helping. read more

He was good in the beginning then he started to overbook people and if you get any time with him is a plus. I liked him more when he was at loma Linda, now the hospitals he contracted are worst than downtown L A! Especially when he had one in Rancho Cucamonga and the one in orange is awful too never again I will go to those hospital!!! read more

Bergey is a wonderful surgeon but is too difficult to see. His appts are 6-8 weeks out and his receptionist is very unhelpful. He has opened several offices and is very difficult to see now. Spreading himself too thin. read more

I'm really disappointed to have to write this poor review. After several months of trying everything possible to relieve the pain in my neck, the doctor replaced & fused disks in my neck. I understood the possibility that it may not help, and so far, two months later, I have not recovered. My disability will run out within the next few months & I still can't work. I don't blame the doctor for the surgery not working, but I do wish it had been done sooner, so that I would have more time to recover & find a new, less physically taxing job. This, however, is not my main complaint. The most damaging part of this ordeal has been his Colton office staff, Tana in particular. Everyone else has been kind & as helpful as possible. Part of Tana's job was (apparently this is now a new member of the staff's job, but at my last appt. Tana said she'd make sure it was done on time) to make sure the EDD (disability) paperwork/internet work is complete. After every visit to his office, it is the patient's responsibility to call the office (?!) and tell them that they need their disability extended. Why they can't communicate to each other (and constantly pass the buck), I do not understand. But alas, since the patient has to do it, and as Tana told me every single time I talked to her, "I have 5 to 10 days to file your paperwork", my payments are inevitably late. As a single mother, this makes feeding myself & my child very difficult. Currently, this is day 12 since I saw a doctor in his office (btw, I haven't seen Dr. Bergey sense right before my surgery, he did not see me afterward in the hospital, nor have I seen him in his office). I just got off the phone with Tana after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, no exaggeration. She told me that she is waiting for the doctor to sign off on her stack of paperwork. Remember she says she has 5-10 day to complete it & this is day 12. I haven't ben paid for 20 days & do not know when I will be. When I asked for a direct line or email to communicate with the doctor, she told me to email her & she'd forward it. I asked again for a direct line to the doctor, she put me on hold & when she came back on the line, told me to send a letter & she would make sure he got it. During my last appointment, before my surgery, I explained to the doctor, my difficulty communicating with Tana, I thought he would like to know. I'm not a difficult patient, I just expect people to do their jobs. And since I can't work right now, I need help from them to survive. Per my friend's suggestion, I have started seeing a different doctor regarding my disability, but am still in the interim and want to warn any perspective patience about my experience. It really is a shame that a doctor's practice & his patients have to suffer because of his employees. read more

Was referred to Dr. Bergey for spinal stimulator implant. Sat and waited for 3 hrs then told I would have to wait longer because he had deposition scheduled. When I voiced my concerns about the wait, front desk staff hid in the back. When your in extreme pain no one is worth waiting over 3hrs especially with spinal conditions. I drive over 2 hours to see Dr Bergey. Yes sometimes I have to wait an extended amount of time to get an appointment. This happens when you are the best surgeon in all of California ! There are doctor's at other offices that you can get a next-day appointment. I myself would rather wait to see the very best than to have an expedited appointment with an inferior Dr. On occasion at my appointments I have had to wait an extended amount of time to see Dr Bergey. His courteous staff explained Dr. Bergy had surgeries earlier that morning and it had taken more time than what was estimated. I thank God that he took the needed extra time with that patient and didn't rush through just to get back to his patients in the office. This reassures and comforts me to know he will never rush through surgery. When I see Dr. Bergy in his office he never rushes me through the appointment. He takes his time. Everything is explained in detail.He answers any and all questions I might have. I leave my appointments fully educated on what's happening with my body and what to expect now and in the future. I find this so more preferable than doctors who herd patients through one right after another with no regard for them. That's the Dr. who sees dollar signs and hears cha-ching cha-ching as you leave their office wondering what the heck just happened and what did he tell me? So if you are a patient looking for the very best Dr you might have to wait a little bit but believe me he is so worth it. read more

I had an appointment. Showed up early. Been waiting an hour plus. These people put you on the back burner if they can't make money off of you. I don't care how good you are you should not be held hostage. Moved out to the I.e. Willing to travel to OC where the good doctors have competition to keep them On the appreciative level. If you don't have obligations this is the place for you.Long waits are consistent here No matter how many patients are in line. This time was only two people in his office. Bergey ruined my back. First of all, he was late for my surgery by 2hrs. Then my family members saw him leave the hospital DURING my surgery and come back 2hrs later--nobody could find him! He then butchered my back and left numerous cuts that failed to heal. I had severe pain, infections that he claimed were "normal" but clearly not. 1yr later, I'm crippled with severe pain and can't walk right. read more

Treated originally with Bergey due to a workers comp case, when my comp case turned into a personal injury case he refused to treat me? I have a private PPO that he accepts, but his office manager stated he doesn't do PI cases cause he will be called into court. He does WC cases and I'm sure he has to go to court for those. Funny thing is he was my original treating spine surgen so he is already involved in the case and will be called in to at least a Depo. So I don't understand why he's worried more about court than providing medical care to people who really need it. He may be a great Doctor but not patient friendly if he has to give up his golf day to attend a legal hearing! Very sad I really liked him and was trusting in him to work on my back and c spine. Very sad he worries more about being in a legal case rather than treating people who are in need of a true doctor that puts care first to see people get well. read more
