He notified me about everything he found that was not quite as it should be so there were no surprises. I am confident that my pellet stove is now working at peak performance and will continue to do so going forward. I am very glad that I did not go with a cheaper alternative that research suggested came with short cuts or try to do the work myself. While the cost came in slightly higher than promotional pricing found on the internet for the initial service, I feel confident knowing the job was done right the first time and, that ongoing annual service will be reasonably priced.

I got a second inspection and was told there was no crack at all, that the chimney was uncleaned, and that the state of the 'thimble' was clogged and potentially very dangerous. A thimble left this way can cause an entire house interior to be coated in soot that costs many thousands to clean, and, if I had a furnace, would have possibly caused a good amount of carbon monoxide to enter the house while a family was sleeping. Also, he charged me $289 after telling me it would cost $249. When I told him about the second inspection, he told me it was 'bullshit', but then apologized. At first, he promised me photos of the damage, then said his camera was broken, then said he figured out how to get the pictures to me, then sent me a photo of a cracked chimney lining, which is not my chimney lining. When I asked for his proof of insurance, he did not respond. I now know to look for certification when hiring a chimney sweep; please you do that as well!

I had them out around 5 or so years ago to seal the crown of my chimney. Not knowing anything about it at the time of course, and based on their reviews, I fully trusted them as to what material should be applied for that purpose. Mason applied several tubes of Alex Plus caulk to the chimney crown. I was a little surprised they would use caulk, but then they were the "experts" right? They said this stuff will last 40 years, no problem! Your chimney is now fully sealed and protected! A few days ago I went up to inspect the chimney crown. Not an ounce of that caulk remains. Nada. Nothing. It's all gone. We're right back down to naked concrete again. And who knows how long it's been like that. So I called the Alex Plus manufacturer, and they said you should NEVER use Alex Plus for that purpose! Spoke to a chimney sweep, who said you should only use elastomeric sealants specifically made for chimney crowns. He was surprised any 'professional' would do something like that. Obviously, they didn't know what they were doing. Or what kind of sealant really should have been used. But they were nice. So $300 down the drain. Don't make the same mistake I made. Find somebody else.

Even knowing that we'd never be an actual customer, they gave very detailed responses and advice. I have seldom ever encountered such service! If they are ever able to service our area in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to give them my business.

After collecting $250 for the service call, we were told he had other calls to go on and could not stay for a half hour 45 minutes to see if the fire place would stay lit after he secured the glass to some latches, saying maybe it was because of a air leak. When we called to let him know the fireplace still was not staying lit. He said it was probably the valve. Never bothered coming back to investigate further. Just said they no longer make Lenox Valves. The problem was the fireplace sensors connections just needed a good cleaning. Definitely a money grab business looking to sell a new fireplace for the tune of $6,000.

A year or so ago we learned it was because the unit they sold us was WAY too large for the space, so the fires we were burning were not hot enough to keep the glass relatively free of soot. We called and told them, suggesting they might swap ours out for a similarly valued used one the correct size, but they didn't respond. A few months later our follow up email received the same silence. We ended up buying fire bricks to fill enough space in it to allow us to burn smaller, hotter fires without overheating the room. It helped, but we still have to do more glass cleaning than we should and ended up spending more money on the larger unit than we needed to. Note: I will update this review if and when they make an effort to help us out.
