A Freezing Fiasco: The Dark Bulls Falls Far Short of the Mark Rating: I rarely write scathing reviews, but after last night's experience at The Dark Bulls in Newton, NC, I feel compelled to warn fellow diners. Our party of six endured what can only be described as a masterclass in restaurant mismanagement--from the frigid seating arrangements to shockingly poor food quality. Arctic Dining Conditions We were seated by the front entrance, where we became unwilling participants in a winter endurance test. Despite there being both an outer and inner door, staff refused to close the outside door. Every time a new customer arrived, Arctic blasts swept through the restaurant, sending shivers down our spines throughout the meal. This easily fixable problem was met with indifference. Adding insult to injury, the seating was absurdly uncomfortable. The chairs sat so low relative to the tables that we felt like toddlers in high chairs, straining awkwardly to reach our plates. "Atmosphere" in Name Only Other reviews praise the ambiance--I'm baffled. The décor consisted primarily of cheap plastic plants plastered across the walls. If this is what passes for "nice atmosphere," I'd hate to see what doesn't qualify. Food: A Comedy of Errors The consensus at our table was unanimous: mediocre food with virtually no flavor. Steak, ordered medium rare, arrived cremated beyond well done. The chicken wing appetizers showed promise until they were suffocated under an ocean of BBQ sauce. The wraps were forgettable and undersized. My Dark Bull Burger was perhaps the evening's most egregious failure. The "grilled broccoli" was clearly microwaved into submission--a mushy, flavorless pile. The advertised "steak fries" looked like crinkle-cut frozen fries that tasted as though they'd been yanked from the freezer and given a ten-second baptism in the fryer. But here's the kicker: when I cut into my burger, I discovered it was raw in the center. Completely raw. I immediately lost my appetite. As a final insult, the menu promised Swiss cheese; what arrived was American. A Troubling Pattern Our server deserves recognition--she was polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful. Tellingly, she mentioned that three other customers the previous day had made identical complaints. When your own staff is acknowledging a pattern of dissatisfaction, there's a serious problem. The Bottom Line I've read mixed reviews of The Dark Bulls, but this restaurant has reportedly been open for two months. By this point, the "kinks" should be worked out. Instead, they're serving raw meat, frozen fries masquerading as steak fries, and creating a dining environment that's physically uncomfortable. Unless management starts genuinely listening to customers rather than dismissing legitimate concerns, I doubt this establishment will survive. The restaurant industry is already struggling post-COVID--raising prices while simultaneously cutting corners on food quality and service is a recipe for failure. First time customera. I called for a table for 9 off to the side 3 hours before my reserve time of 1:00pm. Did happen! Got there at 12:55 and waited until 1:20 only to be seated in the middle at the door not off to the side as requested. 3 tables were thrown together, all of different sizes and heights. The website said nothing about lunch was appetizers, handheld sandwiches, wraps, and salads only, "No entrées!!!" allowed. The font for the description of each item was such small print, It was almost impossible to read without magnification. Granted our age group was between late 60s through middle 80s and we all wore glasses. But we still had to pull out phones and use the magnification apps to be able to read the menu. Several in our group got Philly cheesesteaks which were quite sad, considering it was supposed to be a Philly cheesesteak which it was not. My husband and I ate here last night after watching a movie at the State theater. First up, walking in we were impressed by the beautiful decor. The ambiance of the place is cozy with a natural feel of plants and easy lighting. i liked the gold bull napkin rings and the elegant silverware on the table. We decided to split a salad and entree as we ate snacks at the theater. We opted for a nice fruit and feta salad that they split for us. Delicious! Then we had the Bull burger with green beans and loaded baked potato. We ate every bite. It was a great meal. We took home a piece of red velvet cake that disappeared quickly. We will be returning to this gem of a restaurant. Also our waitress was very attentive. Bathrooms were stocked with extra supplies. This restaurant check all our boxes. Great job! read more

Wow! Food and service were amazing. The borscht was incredible. Will be back for sure.

First, the wait staff was wonderful, quickly seating us and taking our order withinthe first few minutes, the waitress was very attentive and kind... dinner went downhill from there. We ordered mussels which looked marvelous however was so salty we could barely eat them, in addition the bread was not toasted and soggy by the time we received it. Then came the main meal, I ordered the Cajun shrimp linguine, the meal itself tasted very good however there were very few shrimp which were small and over cooked. My wife ordered a loaded baked potato which was far from loaded and did not meet expectation. Bottom line, The Dark Bulls well need to step it up to meet the online hype. Will we eat there again? Maybe once it becomes a bit more mature and learns how to produce and plate quality meals. read more

Steak fries were straight out of freezer. So was broccoli!! Ordered the duck 30$ hot 5 small pieces with seemingly canned blueberries over top!! THAT WAS MY ENTIRE ENTREE ON A 8" plate. Our first visit was fine. Food and service were okay. Wanted to give it a second chance. Second time not a great experience. They were out of Cabernet Sauvignon in bottles and out of salmon. If I could give this zero stars I would. I called and asked for a 5pm reservation wich they could not accommodate, I arrived at 5:19 pm on a Saturday and only 3 other tables had patrons at them. We waited for our 5:30 reservation to be seated, then it took them 30 minutes to take our order. When we asked the server about recommendations she replied with I had only had the steak, I don't know. once we placed our order from their very limited menu it took another hour to get our food, which was 3 cheeseburgers with French fries and one with mashed potatoes and a cheesesteak. The burgers all came out and about 7 minutes later the cheesesteak was delivered. The french fries all cold, baked and no flavor at all. The mashed potatoes looked and felt like instant potatoes, are drink only filled up onetime and most of the time we had no drinks on the table. One couple had been sitting at a large table to Wich they got asked to move about 30 minutes into the stay there because they had a bigger party that needed the table. Two more tables left because service sucked and no one came to there table. We asked for our check and 30 minutes later she finally arrived and couldn't figure out how to split the check and couldn't figure out how to handle cash.
