Great family dentist - Laura was awesome for my teeth cleaning. Easy to make an appointment - definitely recommend Dr. Evans.

Erica, my hygienist, educated me on my gum health, and noticed signs of wear on my teeth due to clenching; which I imagine I do when I'm sleeping. Erica took photos of each tooth, measured my gums, and validated that my oral hygiene practices at home are on par. During my examination, we saw signs of decay, and there was enough time in the schedule for me to start the process of placing a crown on my tooth. From the moment Dr. James numbed me to the moment my temporary crown was placed, I was treated with the utmost care. The team remembered my son, who visited not too long ago, and were as joyful and relatable as can be. They even offered me a cozy blanket during my procedure! I mean, who does that? Pecan Park Family Dentistry does! All in all, though it was my first time at their practice, I was made to feel like family. Like I was being taken care of by my girlfriends, and I am beyond grateful to have crossed paths with them!

After more than 10 years with this practice, I'm incredibly disappointed to be writing this…read more I'm autistic, and like many neurodivergent people, I struggle with scheduling and making it to appointments. I want to be clear: I am already deeply aware of this, and I feel embarrassed and awful when it happens. Nothing feels worse than standing at the garage door with my keys in hand, frozen, shaking, overwhelmed, and filled with guilt. This isn't carelessness or laziness, it's something I actively work to manage. I also understand that missed appointments affect a business, and I am willing to accept financial penalties when appropriate. I appreciate that Pecan Park Dental has waived some missed appointment fees for me in the past. However, my most recent experience felt shaming and dismissive of my disability, and I left in tears. The morning of a scheduled appointment, I was called and told my insurance would not cover the visit because I had hit my maximum. I was told I would need to pay $540 out of pocket for a routine cleaning. I could not afford that and chose to reschedule for a future date when my insurance would cover it. At that time, I was told I would still be charged a $100 late cancellation fee, even though this cost was only communicated to me the morning of the appointment. When I returned months later for the rescheduled visit, I tried to explain that this situation resulted from an insurance and communication issue. Instead of working with me, I was repeatedly pressured in the waiting room to pay the $100 fee. I explained multiple times that I did not have the money that day. I was asked for credit card information over and over, in front of my daughter and other patients. It was humiliating. I ended up crying in the office while still being asked for payment. When I later tried to explain the situation, I was sent a chart of my missed appointments. It felt less like an attempt to understand and more like an effort to reinforce guilt. That approach isn't helpful, it adds to the shame and makes it even harder to access care. Experiences like this are exactly why many neurodivergent people avoid healthcare altogether. It becomes easier to avoid appointments than to face anxiety, shame, and financial penalties. I don't believe this is about bad intent, but it reflects a system that prioritizes policies and revenue over patient-centered care and basic compassion. After more than a decade as a loyal patient, and bringing multiple family members to this practice, I expected more understanding and professionalism. Because of this experience, I will be moving my care, along with my family's care, to a different provider. I hope this practice reflects on how it communicates with and supports patients, especially those with anxiety, autism, or other neurodivergent needs. No patient should be made to feel this way while seeking care

Today I came for my scheduled cleaning appointment, but the location does not exist anymore. I was shocked. No one informed me that the office had moved or closed. I had to call another location, and they told me they could see my appointment in the system, but the location I went to is no longer there. This is extremely irresponsible. Patients should be notified if an office changes location if they have appointments scheduled!!! Since they moved, I also don't know what's going to happen with my Invisalign. Did they move my retainers to a different location? Which location? I don't know. And nobody called me about it. Unfortunately, this is not the first problem I've had with them. Another time they scheduled me for an appointment regarding my Invisalign. When I arrived, they told me my new Invisalign trays had not even arrived yet. That means I came there for no reason just to talk to the nurse about something we had already discussed weeks before. There was also another situation when I came for an appointment and the receptionist simply told me the doctor could not see me that day. Why wasn't I called or sent a message that my appointment was canceled? It feels like they don't respect patients' time at all. This clinic seriously needs to improve their communication and organization. Very frustrating experience.

The next visit was the cleaning. Both the assistant taking my x-rays and the hygienist doing the cleaning were very nice. The hygienist went out of his way to make me feel at ease. I have one sensitive tooth and he was very careful to wait until the end to clean that tooth. What I like the most is that the dentist don't try to push additional services on you or make you feel like you have to do everything suggested. They were also very up front with cost, so no surprises. Highly recommen!

After going to a couple of places who tried to upsell me - I know that sounds crazy right? Like I get a waiter upselling, but a dentist? Yep, one insisted I needed a new crown and super expensive procedure because the tip of an instrument broke off when it was put in - 15 years prior. It had never bothered me. Happily the second opinion agreed, there was no reason to go through all of that pain and expense. 5 years later, it is still fine. Dr. Baker is friendly - but cuts to the chase. Tells you like it is. You feel like you can trust him to tell you the good and the bad. His staff is professional, friendly, and super loyal to him. That says a lot about him as a dentist, a business owner, and a human.

I knew he's a man of integrity who always puts the patient's best interest first. But I think it's really his patient care that sets him apart. I hadn't had a cavity in years, but this time I needed a filling. Dr. Baker was amazing at setting expectations and explaining every step of the process. And I didn't know it was possible to not feel any pain or soreness for a filling--not even during the injection or any part of the treatment. He was that gentle. I truly can't recommend him more.
