Western BBQ, California in the back.
Emily E.

This was the first time I had visited Darcy's after seeing pictures upon pictures of their burgers. The server was friendly, funny, and quick. Great selection of beer! For an appetizer, try the onion rings. Nothing too spectacular, but the batter was flavorful and surprisingly airy for being fried. We ordered the Western BBQ and California burgers, both of which were HUGE! We ended up tackling only half the sandwich and taking the rest home. For being so big, the burger was cooked perfectly. I'm not one to typically order a BBQ burger, but the sauce was pleasantly subtle enough to highlight the other ingredients. As far as the California goes, I liked the transformation of a taco into a burger. However, something on the sandwich was extremely salty. I'm a big fan of the taste of salt, but even this was overpowering. The tots and fries were tots and fries, nothing special. Overall, this is a place I'll come to when I need to sober up and need a chill place to do so. Not somewhere I'd necessarily write home about.

Tastiest patty melt I've ever had!

In my previous review, I mentioned my love for Darcy's "The Cure" and my disappointment towards their burgers. I would like to set the record straight that their burgers are also super noms! Just for some background information, I live approximately five minutes away from Darcy's on foot. Given this, and the lack of decent food options on the stretch of Lombard where Darcy's is located, I find myself at Darcy's at least once or twice a week. Most of the servers recognize both me and my boyfriend when we stop by! At one point, Heather (the awesomest-awesome server) could remember most of my order ("The Cure" with gravy, over-easy eggs, sourdough toast, and hash browns-- mmm!). Lately, however, I've been a huge burger fiend, which has inspired me to try out Darcy's burger menu! Onto the burgers: The burgers here are super tasty and super huge! The burger patty itself is super juicy and seasoned perfectly. Darcy's also puts a special spread (I believe it's some type of thousand island dressing?) on their burgers that really elevates it to the next level! All of the toppings also taste really fresh and never sog up the burger (much appreciated, Darcy's)! My recommendations would be the patty melt on sourdough (seriously the BEST patty melt I've tasted) as well as the classic bacon cheeseburger. I would also opt to upgrade to onion rings for a dollar more-- they're perfectly fried and the batter is really tasty! What's also nice about Darcy's is that you have three different options for your burger size (1/4, 1/2, and 1 lb burgers). Just for reference, I can polish off a 1/4 lb bacon cheeseburger pretty easily from here when I'm hungry (as a petite 4'11" girl), so I'd recommend getting the regular 1/2 lb burger to fill a regular sized human :) PS: I'm not sure if Darcy's always runs happy hour deals on burgers, but I remember getting a dollar or two off my burger while watching a Blazers game a few weeks ago (super awesome!) PPS: Darcy's also has super tasty appetizers to open up your stomach pre-meal. I highly recommend ordering frickles (ask for it with the burger spread instead of ranch for the dipping sauce) or fried macaroni and pepper jack cheese bites!

This happens to be one of those places where no matter what you select you can't go wrong. From breakfast to lunch to dinner the menu will repeatedly satisfy your desire for a tasty and filling meal. I recommend that you come here with a large appetite because their portions are quite large. Another thing to note is that they serve breakfast all day, which is always a plus. On the chance that you get thirsty they have plenty of beers for you to choose from. Not to mention that they possess a full bar for those looking to get loose. The service here is tremendously friendly and does their best to ensure you leave satisfied. This is a good place for date night or a fun night out with friends. If you're in search of a good Portland represented eatery, I highly recommend that you check this place out.

I frequent Darcy's about 2-3 times a month. This place is a-okay. Nothing fancy but very sufficient for my drinking and eating needs. My only gripe about this place is their lack of high chairs. Occasionally I've wanted to have lunch here with my young son and wasn't able to because of this. Instead we've gone to University Grill which is ok.

Quick read: YES, COME HERE!…read more We took a chance on this place when some unexpected family flew into town and wanted a good breakfast. This was the first spot open long enough for us to still squeeze one in. As soon as we walked in, we noticed a sign proudly supporting inclusion and justice. As a Mexican queer woman, seeing that right away felt genuinely welcoming. We grabbed a table, got our menus, and I immediately noticed the Community Meal option-where anyone can come in and get a meal, no questions asked, free of cost. Our server overheard us talking about it and was ready to offer it with complete respect. We were the only ones in this restaurant and they were okay with providing meals for free if we needed them. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of place this is. When ordering, we learned they don't even have a freezer everything is fresh and locally sourced. Big win. One of us ordered the French toast, and wow... I wish I had too. It was beautiful, topped with nuts for the perfect crunch, and made with brioche bread. PHENOMENAL. I had a bite (and got the leftovers), and it was just as amazing cold. I ordered the chorizo breakfast sandwich with a side of tots, and even the quality of the oil they fry with must be top-notch because those tots had the perfect crispy outside with soft, fluffy insides. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros, which I barely saw before he devoured it and immediately went into a happy food coma. We also had biscuits and gravy--slightly sweeter than usual, but still delicious. I'll absolutely be bringing friends here for future breakfast dates. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and come try their food!

Just absolutely incredible. I did not expect this to be as good as it was but it's amazing…read more Firstly, the covered patio, which was plenty warm on this cool spring day, allows dogs, and I am there for it! There is also an indoor section of this restaurant that has nice upholstered booths and a bar. They also have gender, neutral, restrooms, which were pristine and very well stocked. Service was phenomenal. We were greeted by a lovely young person, who made us aware of the self serve, coffee, and water that was available, then our waiter came and was equally lovely and helpful and gave us great ideas for what to order for breakfast. A third person brought our latte and our breakfast very quickly. They were really on top of everything. I had the vegetable pesto breakfast which came with scrambled eggs and a choice of grits or potato pancake. I had the potato pancake and think it was the right choice. It also came with a giant incredibly delicious buttermilk biscuit. The vegetables themselves were so flavorful that I added no salt or pepper, which is very unusual for me as I love my black pepper, but these were seasoned so lovely that it was not needed. The vegetables included garlic, kale, mushrooms, potatoes, and many other delicious bits. The pesto sauce on it was just perfect. My dining companion had biscuit with both types of gravy, which was really great that they let her split it because she had been undecided. Chicken sausage was tasty and she loved every bit of it. They have both a house, made salsa and jam at the table and I think the jam was raspberry and incredibly tasty. Loved it so much. I will be back here as often as possible!

*3.5, rounded up*…read more Came for breakfast on Mother's Day with a reservation. Checked in ~5min early, and ended up waiting for ~15min past reservation time because the hostess did not let us know we had to check-in *again* when the person parking the car had made it to the restaurant. We ended up with what was, in my opinion, the worst table in the restaurant, after watching several parties of the same size seated at 'better' tables, all of which had arrived after the driver, who was there less than 2 min later (so still prior to scheduled time) after I was at the hostess stand, and we were seated waiting in direct view of the hostess. PLEASE be clear in your communication about this policy: it was neither clearly posted anywhere nor voiced - it wasn't a huge inconvenience, but I would have much preferred being sat in the main area. The restaurant areas are each different: the bar area itself is the least interesting: several seating booths and the bar, closest to the bathrooms. The main dining area has more seating, a fireplace and the self serve coffee bar - I LOVE this feature, and even saw a Wonderwood Springs mug. Shoutout to my favorite neighborhood merriment maker, Mike Bennett (if you haven't been there, go. Do the mini golf... but this review isn't about WW, so... moving on) We ordered a couple of adult beverages: the Bloody Mary was *fantastic* and I'm grateful to the server for suggesting to mix the two infused vodkas I was torn between. Hot peppered pickle was *chef's kiss* and gave me all the things I crave in a bloody: slice, twang, umami. The mix was the perfect consistency (nothing worse than a great tasting Bloody Mary that's too thick/thin), and it didn't get too watered down as breakfast went on. Baby Daddy's iced "Shed's on Fire" was... alright. The highlight was the espresso bean that he didn't even get because I stole it (Mother's Day... amirite?). I'm not sure if it was the 151 or if it's because I don't drink much anymore, but all I could taste was the alcohol, so I didn't feel it was very balanced - I would have preferred a more coffee forward taste, especially since our server said the iced version was made you cold brew. I had anticipated it being stronger in coffee flavor. I'm a sucker for anything crab, so when we were told the special was a crab cake Benedict, I was sold (so was my kiddo) - didn't really look at the rest of the menu, and if I'm honest, I'm kind of sad I didn't. It's not that the CCB was bad, but it was just alright/nothing to write home about. I couldn't tell if the crab used was Dungeness, fresh, or something from a can, there wasn't much flavor to the cake itself (it was honestly overpowered by the egg & hollandaise combination) and made me want to go home and try to make my own (Dungeness) cakes. The highlight of my breakfast was the grits, when they first came from the back: note to future me/the person reading this reciew: eat them first/fresh & hot- by the time I came back to them, they had cooled & congealed *sad panda* My son is a culinary student (has studied at Johnson & Wales) said the same thing about the cakes - lack of flavor, needs something additional, couldn't tell what type of crab was used, etc and was also disappointed. The highlight for him was the potato cakes, and I'm pretty sure he is going to try to replicate those at home now!! All in all, we weren't exactly disappointed in our Tin Shed visit, but I'm not sure it tops the list of our favorite Portland breakfast/brunch spots. I'm sure we'll come back, but next time I'll try something on menu and get a biscuit - those b*+ches looked dang amazing on everyone's plates as they walked out of the kitchen!!
