My husband and I went to Daphne's a couple weeks ago for the first time. We just moved to the area last year so we haven't tried out all the restaurants yet. I'm a fan of Greek food and have been to several eateries in that shopping center but I guess the sign wasn't too appealing. But then I got a coupon in the mail for the place and my impression changed. Their ad made the place look really nice, so we decided to give it a try next time we were over there. Boy am I glad! The guy working that Thursday early evening was really helpful with explaining the differences between certain items on the menu, and checking on us after we'd had a few bites. I ordered the gyro street pitas and was wowed! So delicious. And the inside of the place looks so much nicer than i would've thought-- maybe old locals know this but for new customers they should really get a new sign to draw more business in! The days following I craved those pitas and went again with my kids for lunch last week. The food was just as great as I expected but the experience was a little different. I don't know if they were short staffed or if the guy working the front just felt stressed out about the amount of customers (imo it wasn't crazy busy) but i felt rushed, like i couldn't ask questions because he didn't have time and just needed to get people in and out. I think it may have even been the owner, but I don't know, he looked caucasian but had an accent. While there were two cooks in the kitchen, this guy working the register was running around clearing tables, delivering food and taking orders. I can understand his sense of urgency but there is something to be said for taking time to let each customer feel welcome and not pushed through an assembly line. Don't get me wrong, he said all the right things, I just got a better vibe from the cashier our first time there. I will definitely be back for the street gyros... last time I even asked about getting their pita bread in bulk... $4 for a 10 pack, not bad! read more
