Daon Sushi has been on my radar for a long time. I was in the area looking for a fast food lunch and walked in to order a bento box. The nice owner lady served me hot tea to start. She was very sweet and polite. Shortly afterward the man behind the counter served me a small bowl of hot miso soup which had a good amount of green onions. It was the proper proportion of miso to water too; not watery like other restaurants. It was tasty. Within a short period of time my bento box arrived. It consisted of a crunchy vegetable spring roll, crispy iceberg salad with shreds of carrot, edamame, rice and teriyaki glazed salmon sprinkled with sesame seeds, green onions, sitting atop a bed of stir fried cabbage. I'd say it was better than the alternative for a fast food meal.

35$ for 10 pieces sashimi and sushi. Really polite service and prompt too. Sushi was fresh enough!

This is one of my favourite sit-down sushi restaurants in the area. It's located in the corner of the plaza and has five tables that seat 4. I love the dynamite roll + udon combo. It's a mom and pop shop and the service is great! It is cash only.

We arrived after traveling all day famished. While we worried the place was pretty empty, the food was high quality, lovely, and delicious. It does seem like the majority of their business is likely to be takeout. The service was helpful, but unobtrusive. The ambiance was simple, yet clean and inviting. Chance steered us well this evening.

Daon Sushi is tucked in the very back corner of the plaza and it's quite a small space inside. I haven't been here in over a decade but I have fond memories coming here before piano classes as a kid. The owners have changed since then but it's run by a husband and wife duo who have figured out how to work together collaboratively and effectively. They're very sweet and it's fun to watch them work. We came here for dinner and tried the beef teriyaki bento and sashimi bento. The beef teriyaki was pan fried beef slices with a squeeze of teriyaki sauce over it so it wasn't very hot though the beef was tender. The sashimi bento came with mostly salmon sashimi with one slice of red tuna. It seems this spot primarily serves salmon for their sashimi/sushi combo dishes which isn't ideal for me since I prefer the variety. Our sashimi wasn't sliced very cleanly so a few of the slices were still connected to one another. Lastly, we got a cold spring roll with the sashimi bento which was super surprising but the owner was kind enough to replace it with 2 freshly fried (and hot!) spring rolls. Overall, this spot doesn't stand out but the prices are very fair, the owners are lovely, and if you love salmon sashimi this spot is worth visiting.

Teriyaki chicken dinner box and Combo dinner box with sashimi and sushi. Salad very fresh.

Saturday night, we want just a quick simple dinner. We used to come here but was many years ago. It is inside a corner plaza with all kind of Chinese eateries. I believe these are new business owners now. Cozy place with 20 seats. Not too many choices of food. They have 6 choices of dinner bento boxes. We picked the combo dinner box so we can taste a bit of sushi and sashimi. The other one we picked the Teriyaki chicken dinner box. Sashimi are salmon and tuna, and they taste fresh. Love the lettuce salad. Dressing was not too strong like some other small place. Same as the miso soup right after we placed the order, not salty at all. Even for a Saturday night around 7 p.m., it was just half full. We are pleased to have a tiny place for simple Japanese food in our hood.

The wholesomeness of this restaurant and its owners (a super cute husband and wife duo) is enough as is, but their sushi quality is also great. Definitely an upgrade from the lower end Hanabi that used to be here. For those of you who were familiar with Hanabi, the space hasn't changed too much- same small intimate space but it is cleaner. It's literally just a husband and wife team running the restaurant but watching them work will make you feel warm and fuzzy. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the food... I wasn't really expecting too much. I ordered the sashimi dinner set bento, which came with 6 spicy salmon rolls, salmon sashimi, green salad, fried tofu, glass noodles, and miso soup. Everything was made to perfection, I would say above average tasting. The miso soup was comforting, the salad had a nice light dressing... the sushi pieces tasted fresh and I also really enjoyed the glass noodle and tofu (and I'm not even usually a fan of tofu). Since it's just the two of them running the restaurant, they both usually have their hands full with making sushi so they don't check up on you all that much on their own... but I really didn't mind that; they were nice, welcoming, and happy to help when asked. I wouldn't come here in a big group because seating is limited. This is what I'd call a hidden hole in the wall restaurant that will pleasantly surprise you.

This small restaurant hides in the corner of the Finch/Midland plaza. People are still unwilling to dine in as we are the only customers inside on a Saturday afternoon. I won't say the sashimi and sushi are the best, but their price is competitive. The sashimi + sushi combo we ordered is mainly salmon, with one shrimp sushi and one slice of tuna as exception. We expected a more variety of choices for combo. Next time we may need to order combo with specified sashimi or sushi. The size of spider sushi is huge. Another thing I like is their soya sauce. Dip a bit to bring great favour to the sashimi.

Was craving sushi during quarantine and this definitely hit the spot! Very clean and friendly service. The portions were also very large and they did not skimp out on the filling!

IF YOU WANT TO BE SERVED BY THE CUTEST LITTLE ASIAN MAN AND HIS WIFE, COME HERE! My brother and I came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. Considering that this place is relatively new to his predecessor (shoutout to my Hanabi upbringing), and the fact that they had no Yelp reviews, could be why. From first look, the restaurant is a lot more spacious and has a vibrant, happy yellow (which oddly reminds me of The Owl but hey not one to plagiarize). It's also a lot cleaner. Anywho, the cutest Asian couple owns this place. They promptly gave us our plentiful choice of seating, and gave us the menus. (I've uploaded them to reference). I ordered the Sashimi Dinner Box ($15.95) and my brother ordered the Teriyaki Dinner Box (same price). They served us with some damn good non-salty taste miso soup. (Shoutout to all them sushi places). We also got our boxes pretty fast. The fish was good quality and the portions were decent. Anywho, it's a really good environment, with good food served by an honest couple (that strangely reminds me of the Asian version of the grandpa from the movie Up) Support these guys, and check them out when you can. :)

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

What I really liked was that they had 3 options of warm water - Hot, Warm, and room temperature. Instinctively I knew this place cared about the clients digestive health. Though I'm sure if you asked for ice water, they would accommodate (my friend asked for no sauces in her maki roll). The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else. Drinks were a nice touch too.. refreshing, nicely presented, and added to the overall experience. Overall, this feels like a solid spot for a casual night out with friends. It's not overly traditional, but it's easygoing, shareable, and comfortable.. the kind of place you'd come back to when you just want good food and a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu is set up to where you pick the entree and then what type of protein you want out of pork loin, chicken, fish, cheese, and sweet potato cheese. I settled on the sweet chili katsu. A piece of chicken arrived on a plate accompanied with rice and shredded cabbage. The chicken was breaded in a light panko like crumb and was half covered in the sweet chili sauce. I ate a couple of pieces and the crisp texture and flavor was wonderful. I had a bite of rice and when I got to the cabbage to my dismay I found a long piece of hair in it. I immediately lost my appetite and all I could think about was how great the two bites of chicken was. I gave up the plate and showed the staff what I found. They offered another plate a couple of times and after I declined a refund was issued. Katsuya. sucks for serving me one of the best pieces of breaded chicken in my life with hair in the food. I'm struggling to hold back the tears now as I write. I did get to try the parmesan fries which were ok. I also tasted the udon which is not one of their stronger dishes. This probably would have been five stars had it not been for the hair. I know this happens on the rare occasion but probably shouldn't if hair nets are worn. If you do try out this place, expect great katsuya.
