The oil, vinegar, and pepper-spread are perfectly draped over shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, and onions. This delicious salad is wrapped inside a meat, cheese, and bread vessel that delivers a beautiful hoagie experience. When I visit home, I spend time with my family. I grew up on the Danville Sub Shop, so maybe I'm biased, but I love the heck out of this joint. It is most certainly a local hang-out, cramped and a bit dingy inside...I used spend my allowance on the video games in the back...years and years ago. The cold subs are fine, overstuffed, and tasty...I'll be honest, it's been a while since I've had one, because their cheesesteaks are where it's at. The Danville Sub Shop cheesesteak is AWESOME! Nice quality beef, not too cheesy, a bit of a greasy mess truth be told; but it is tasty. Just a plain one is good, or go for the gusto and get one in the garden and don't forget to ask to have sauce on it. It's around $9-10, and is not exactly a Philly cheesesteak, but it's great just on its own. A classic example of a local hole-in-the-wall sort of shop, call ahead and try them out. read more

My dad and I have been going to Danville Subs, ever since I was a young girl. They've always been a little overpriced, but you got a good deal for your money ($10 plus change for a whole cheesesteak) Went in tonight and got our normal cheesesteaks, and for the first time in my life, I wasn't impressed. The meat is chewy. They used to fill it full of meat, but didn't see there was as much as usual. The steak was chewy. The cheese consisted of a small piece that I only had a bite of in my first bite. The sauce was almost non-existent. The rolls even seemed a little chewier. Tonight, it was definitely not worth the money. I will give them one more chance (maybe tonight was an off night), but if my next visit was like tonight, I will not be returning to a place from my childhood! read more

What a dreadful first experience in your sub shop today. Yelling into the seating area that you were closing immediately during lunch hour, after taking orders from all of your customers, was incredibly unprofessional. I understand that there was an issue with an employee, but it could've been handled with much more care. (ie explanation of longer wait times, or not being able to take any additional orders) You sealed the deal when I watched you use your bare hands to touch many surfaces and then someone's sub that you were preparing. read more

This is an average sub shop. It dies have a super greasy cheesesteak that is pretty bad-ass, but the cold subs are so-so and it is certainly not the place to take someone you want to impress. It definitely has a local following that probably stems from when it was the only decent sub shop in town. I also agree that the prices are ridiculous considering you are not paying for atmosphere, waitresses, rent, new paint, or discernible overhead of any kind. read more

I've been going here since I was a kid and I love this place. It's a true Danville landmark, and they have the best cheesesteaks around.

I've eaten here several times and no real complaints. Tasty sammiches, but a little on the pricey side. Definitely recommend though.

I've always loved this place. But the sub rolls have gotten smaller. I'd say half the size they used to be and the quality has dropped drastically since the new owner took over. One of my favorite places ever but now I won't go back. read more

I grew up in Danville and spent a good bit of money there during my high school years, between the pin ball machines, food & soda. It was always a narrow and dingy place, but it was our dingy place. (The Uptown Sub Shop back in those days was off limits to any of us guys who had long hair, but Tony, who owned the shop back then, always allowed the teenagers to hang in the back room.) The staff was always great whenever I have been there. The smells were second only to Pappas' grill in the front window on Mill St. But it was the wonderful cheese cosmo that always stood out for me. Any visit back home always includes a visit to my all-time favorite sub shop. I introduced my 3 children to cosmos, and like me, they always make an effort to stop there when in the area. The other food from there was worthwhile but the cheese cosmo always stood out as my favorite. read more

Grossly over priced and very low quality food. Sheets is right down the street and their MTOs are amazing for less than half the price. Staff is rude on the phone and routinely gets the order wrong even when explicitly stating the exact ingredients you want. This used to be a great place but it has nose dived. read more

I stopped in for the first time tonight and I am sure glad I did! The sub I ordered was delicious and they were generous with the amount of meat they put on it. I read a couple reviews before deciding to try it and saw that some people mentioned they are overpriced. I disagree with this; I think the prices are very fair for what they give you. I also found the atmosphere to be very welcoming. Overall, I am extremely happy with my experience and I will definitely be back! read more

I stopped here to have a sub while in Elysburg on vacation. It's just a small sub shop in downtown but don't let the looks fool you. I had a garden cheese steak which was one of the best subs i ever had!!! The workers there were absolutely wonderful and super nice!! If visiting the area or even if you live here i would recommend stopping here for food. I will be coming back!! read more

This restaurant is definately a local favorite. I am 25 now and have grown up with the Sub Shop. However, I have noticed many changes. For starters, their cheese steaks, while delicious, are greasy and are overpriced. The last few times I have been there and ordered, the meat has been burnt and the sandwich put together rather sloppy and wrapped haphazardly. While this restaurant still serves the best cheese steak I've ever had, the quality used to be better and used to be a much better value. Definately not a sit down joint. More of a greasy spoon quick stop for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast is great and affordable. I wish the rest of their menu would follow. Just a note - I love their cheese steaks so much, aside from Breakfast, it's the only item I've ever cared to order from the Sub Shop. read more
