We often forget about Dante's even existing. When we come up with the brilliant idea to have supper there, we always ask ourselves why we don't come more often! It's a nice place, well laid out, super friendly staff who give you a classy feel without having to put on a suit. The salad started us off just right leading us to the main course. I always go for a good steak while my wife usually does a pasta dish... both equally delicious. The atmosphere is pleasant. As I mentioned, a bit of classy with just enough casual to be comfortable. I didn't see any kids, but I didn't get the impression it was in any way not kid friendly. Don't forget about Dante's and wander over there once in a while. It's worth remembering. read more

We have been here before and were hoping it had gotten better. It hasn't! We were a table of three, greeted, water served, waitress came & took drink order, told us what the special was. Brought our drinks back & came back for order. We ordered two steaks & a pasta dish. She never asked what type of salad dressing we wanted, just assumed we wanted the house, had to ask for ranch on salad. Salads came out quick & were good. About 10 minutes later I notice a couple of plates sitting on the shelf above the kitchen, assumed they were ours because of the wrapped baked potatoes. They sat there for maybe 10 minutes before the waitress brought them over. She set the dishes down and I noticed a black hair on my plate!!! Plus all of the food was COLD!! I looked for her for several min. Finally my son had to walk over to tell her about my plate, she came over took the plate & said they provide a new plate. I saw her talking to the manager, who never came over to talk to me. Upon walking into Dante's, my hopes were high. The atmosphere was nice. Our server and other staff were incredibly friendly. The food? Well, as my mom put it, "not even a bear would eat this!" It was comically bad. The asparagus tasted straight from a can. The salmon tasted more like steelhead and was pretty dry. The prime rib, which I thought for sure a restaurant in Montana would have down to an art form, was so tough it was like chewing through a leather boot. The salad was alright, so if you're craving a basic garden salad and friendly service, this might be your place. If you want a more substantial meal, I'd recommend saving your money or going someplace else. I'm only rating this meal as high as two stars because of the friendly staff read more

We went there for our 33 year anniversary. have been coming to Great Falls for 3 1/2 years and we always wanted to try it. It was average to say the least . The pasta dishes were all either butter, garlic, or white cream sauce, no real Italian red sauce or meatballs available on the menu. We were happy that they had oysters Rockefeller available for an hors d'oeuvre . The service was good . Both pasta dishes that we ordered more average and way overpriced for what we got . The ambience was very outdated and definitely needed some attention to detail . Don't think we will be going back for a second chance. Went there tonight for dinner. Waitress SAM was nice, but I asked for a Peroni (before seeing the beer menu), and wound up with a Corona. LOL The New York steak was very properly cooked, but was very, very tough. Nowhere near a $30 retail steak. I also mentioned this to the hostess, along with the , quite frankly, filthy windows! I'd also recommend: You're supposed to be the best Italian restaurant in GF, get: 1) Peroni beer on the menu; 2) get a decent Veal Marsala on the menu; and, 3) get Oysters Rockefeller back on the menu! I met my friend here for happy hour the other night and was my first time here. We sat in the bar and had half price appetizers from 5pm-7pm; fried zucchini and cream puffs. They were okay, but would order something else next time. We didn't find out until we got our bill that our drinks weren't on happy hour, so that would have been nice to know that before we ordered. We also saw the bartender make a special cocktail, set on the serving tray to be taken out to the customer, and then pick up and drink out of the straw for a taste.......I'm glad I didn't order a cocktail! read more

We were very disappointed in Dante's. The staff was friendly but the food was not nearly as pleasant as the atmosphere. I ordered the Surf and Turf with vegetables which came with 3 fried shrimp and an 8oz Sirloin. I ordered the steak Medium Rare and it came out well done. It's obvious that the the veggies were frozen and the shrimp was nowhere near fresh. I was hoping for a better experience but they fell short. I would not recommend Dante's. My sister and I stopped in here for a quick lunch because my sister read they had some fish options. But since it was lunch time it was a different menu, mostly pastas and sandwiches. We went for happy hour! Got the stuffed mushrooms which were pretty good! Their bread and like oil, balsamic vinegar, roasted garlic was *chefs kiss*. The linguine was actually really good shrimp seemed to be cooked really well! And deserts were I was really hoping for tiramisu and it's hard to come by decent tiramisu! My wife took me to dinner here about 12 years ago for my birthday. We had reservations but still waited about 45 minutes to be seated, unacceptable with reservations. We were seated right next to the kitchen with constant traffic to and from the kitchen (should not have been a table there). When our meal came the steak I ordered was terrible at best. I refused to ever go back there but my wife goes there occasionally for girls night out. She likes going there for the atmosphere. Fast forward to last Thursday, our wedding anniversary my wife talked me into going there for dinner. I ordered the ribeye steak and it came out raw (I like medium rare). I had to send it back,not sure what they did but it was still raw when they brought it back to me. By this time my wife was done eating. I tried to eat the steak but it was so tough and still raw I couldn't even cut it. I decided to just bring it home and do something with it. The price of the my meal was around 45 dollars. The very next day I decided to send them an email and explain what had happened. I gave them a chance to make it right before I gave my review but they decided to ignore me altogether. If you are going out for dinner I would advise that you go somewhere else. I had a great steak at the Montana steak house and it was cheaper than here. read more

I was in Great Falls on business and a coworker suggested this restaurant knowing what a foodie I am. I dined on a Tues evening by myself and the place was a empty. I sat at the bar. There were maybe 3 other parties in the bar area. Staff congregated at the end of the bar and were inattentive. The menu had all steaks seafood and pasta and very pricey. I asked if they had salads or sandwiches. All I was offered was a small lounge menu with some dips etc also expensive. I ordered the 12 ounce prime rib. The meal started with a loaf of brown and serve bread which was anemic. I questioned if it was even baked. A roasted garlic spread came with the bread that was over roasted/burnt and so bitter. The salad was nice house salad. My meat was just ok. Somewhat tough and cool but I did order medium rare. Also I ordered the baked potato loaded. My plate showed up with my steak buried in little cups of potato toppings. While eating my meal I noticed everyone else were eating meals not on the menu I was given. Shrimp cocktail, nachos etc. so there must have been another menu or specials that I was not made aware of. My plates were never cleared after my meal. Sign my check in amongst my dirty dishes. I remember eating at Dante's over 6 years ago when traveling with my co-workers. Decided to try it again since I felt like Italian food. Pretty restaurant and decor, more of a fine dining feel. Food was decent with big portions. Best thing was their signature roasted garlic that they mix with olive oil and balsamic at the table by my server. It was delicious on the bread. I ordered the scallops au gratin. Made with linguine and baked with Parmesan on top. Very cheesy but bland. Restaurant wasn't full but my order took awhile. No one came by to tell me status of my meal. Thought maybe it took longer since they had to bake the dish to melt the cheese on top. I didn't get half finished. The best part of the meal was the roasted garlic and the salad, which has a Gorgonzola dressing. read more

I was reluctant about eating here again after our less than stellar meal on our last visit. My daughter insisted on a Christmas Eve lunch here, however, and it turned out to be a decent choice for some of us. The meals ranged from very good to run of the mill. My open-faced prime rib sandwich was really good. The large slab of beef was grilled from the previous day's prime rib special and was tender, flavorful, and still pink in the middle. Most places serving a similar option often overcook the leftover meat destroying it's flavor and texture. My daughter's Manicotti stuffed with chicken and ricotta in a basil cream sauce hit her pasta button dead center. The Pastrami Rubens were ok, and the Beef Enchiladas were average, featuring a mundane ranchero (red) sauce. If we ever go back, the Prime Rib Sandwich would be the choice of all six of us. I have been to Dante's a number of times through the years. It has progressively gotten worse as time as gone by. Recently we went for dinner with friends and family. When the wait staff came to fill our water glasses she never moved from the end of the table and instead reached over people when she didn't need to. The food was passable and not hot. At one point we requested more rolls. The waitress tossed them across the table from a basket she was carrying and some completely missed the basket on our table. "Oops, sorry," was her response. I will not be returning there any time soon. For the price, it was barely passable. read more

It was a Friday night double-date night in Great Falls Montana. We decided to try out Dante's; rumor says it's one of the nicest restaurants in town, albiet pricey. Now I never mind trading a couple of Ulysses S. Grants for a good meal, but unfortunately Dante's was not deserving. The only redeeming factor of the whole place is the wait staff. They were indeed very attentive and pleasant. Oh wait, there was one more redeeming factor, the Andes mints. Unless you're diabetic or allergic to it, or are deathly afraid of things wrapped up in green foil, Andes mints can almost make you forget how underwhelming a dinner was. So what about the food? The restaurant does offer bread for the table. The bread is nothing special (the word Wonderbread comes to mind) but I did enjoy the balsamic vinegar, oil, garlic concoction. For an appetizer we ordered the crab and artichoke dip. It was decent; I'm always a sucker for cheesiness. For the entrées, we ordered the Mahi-Mahi, the Halibut, the Crab and Shrimp Alfredo and the Filet Mignon. Between the four of us, none of us were satisfied with our meals. We tried to like it, we just couldn't lie to ourselves and our love for food. This is too bad since we were really looking forward to good food. I should have believed the previous Yelp reviews declaring this place unappetizing. I really don't know how Dante's stays in business, from start to finish this place was horrible. The hostess ignored us while carrying on a personal conversation with a waiter (loud drama, continued for most of our meal). The service was pretty bad, although I believe the waiter was in fact trying his best, he really had no clue about how to properly care for guests. His service was awkward at best. The bruchetta appetizer had a lot going on, not a traditional bruchetta by any means, but edible. The Ceasar salad wasnt a Ceasar at all, but some sort of overly dressed, wilted lettuce on a plate drowning in thousand island dressing. Nothing like a plate of browning uncored lettuce. The main course was the biggest disappointment for both myself and my colleague: my steak was cold and too rare, the mashed potatoes were gummy, likely cooked earlier this week and reheated, and the asparagus was also obviously frozen, not fresh. My coworker's steak also came to the table more rare than what was ordered, and his orzo side dish was dry and flavorless. I only took a couple bites of my dinner, it really was that bad. The waiter did notice I was unhappy with my dish, so he did offer to replace it with something else, which was nice, but not necessary. I didnt ask him to. He wound up taking the meal off our tab as a courtesy. This is the only reason I give this place any stars at all. No plans to be back whatsoever. Lobster was over cooked to the point where you could not tell if you were chewing on lobster or just a ball of tasteless rubber. Service was EXTREMELY slow, took about two hours for dinner. This is literally the worst restaurant that I have ever had the misfortune of trying. While visiting the amazing state of MT; we decided to try a restaurant in town instead of eating at our lodge. We ignored the yelp reviews, thinking how bad could it be? From the service to the tacky early 90's decor, this place is awful. These can be overlooked, but it's the food that really shines as gross slop. We started with salads which were swimming in the worst dressing ever. We only had had two bites. Even my ice tea didn't taste right. Then the entrees came, yuck! Swimming in some sort of gelatinous oil and zero taste. I had a pasta and my companion had lemon chicken. After one inedible bite we decided to leave $60 and go get pizza. How this place stays in business, I don't know! Do yourself the favor and go to the pizza place by the river or just get fast food. Don't waste your money. For $25 a plate, I expect home made pasta, or at least great flavor. Dante's has neither of these. I got the shrimp primodoro and was severely disappointed. The shrimp were flavorless and rubbery. The "sauce" tasted like they opened up a can of diced tomatoes, added garlic and fresh basil and called it a day. The bread tasted like a loaf you can buy at the store for $1. The only highlight was the roasted garlic they give you to spread on your cold bread. Also, in the kitchen they have a cooler that I feel should belong in a gas station, but even worse, the light was flickering. It reminded me of a hole in the wall restaurant, but without fantastic food. If you're looking for good flavors, avoid this place. read more

When I 1st entered here I was impressed on the decor however that is were it stopped. I had the Walleye with lemon pepper which was overcooked and bland taste. The salad was warm and ceaser dressing tasted more like honey mustard vinaigrette. My wife had the king crab legs which also were dry and the shells very rubbery like it was old. The salt and pepper shakers were coated with a sticky substance. The glass table top had chips in the edge of the glass. The only thing I can recommend is the cheese cake and coffee. Those two were the only good thing about this place. I found the prices to be on the high side. I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

We stopped here during a visit to Great Falls based on the recommendations of locals. Good service, good food, nice selection, good beer and wine...and as promised, a very innovative and creative menu (some combinations we've never seen before...like pecan crusted chicken which we enjoyed). It offered all the essentials of a very nice evening. There were a number of locals who seem to come all the time ("regular table" types). I'd say it is definitely worth the stop if you are looking for a white-tablecloth Italian or steak dinner in Great Falls. read more
