We enjoyed our stop and would do stop by again if passing by as we often do towards Charlotte area.

You can't get fresher than this, everything made to order - 2 carolina "all the way" dogs, cajun seasoned fries, a soda bottle, and a cookie sandwich for $10? Unreal. The dogs are "Martinsville Speedway" style - jesse jones with mustard, onions, slaw, chili but you can get them any way you want. I had 2 buy could easily down 5 of them in a sitting. If you're a Midwesterner living down South (or just someone who knows the magic of a true tavern…read moreexperience), The Stag & Doe will feel like a warm hug and a high-five the moment you walk in. It's the closest thing I've found to a Southern Indiana tavern--and trust me, that's the highest of compliments. The wood-paneled walls, vintage beer signs, red and white checkered tablecloths, baskets of crackers waiting at your table, and ice-cold beer mugs are pure nostalgia. They even have the old-school tavern pizza that tastes just like home. I didn't know whether to cry tears of joy or order another round (spoiler: I did both). The prices are so good it almost feels illegal. A frosty mug is $4, but you're better off grabbing the small pitcher for $8 (about 3.5 glasses) -- or go big with the larger pitcher for $16 if you're feeling generous. And yes, you can even get Blue Moon at that price! #worthit. They're famous for their spaghetti, but my boyfriend can never resist the ribs--and every time the waitress offers to "add shrimp," he says yes without hesitation (it's basically tradition now). It's about a 35-minute drive from Charlotte (add time for the inevitable traffic), but it's absolutely worth it. The only thing missing is a giant fishbowl beer glass and some cheeseballs... then this place would be a 20/10, no contest. The food? Fantastic. The prices? Even better. But the feeling of being "at home" when you're 600 miles away? Absolutely priceless. Stag & Doe is a hidden gem, a tavern treasure, and officially the apple of my eye. I'll be back again and again--save me a pitcher.
