Everyone was SUPER friendly and helpful. I live in Stamford but happened to be closer to the Darien location, and I'm so happy i chose to come here. We showed up at 11am to drop my bikes off, they told me exactly what needed to be fixed or replaced (i even bought the tune up online ahead of time) . They told me it would be about a month, but it was less than two weeks! I picked up my bike & rode it, and it feels like brand new!!They even helped me put my bike rack on - and the bike racks since I've never had one before & wanted to make sure it was secure. Highly recommend The chain on my bike was slipping. I usually keep my bike in good condition and couldn't figure out the reason for this issue. Brought in for advice and they fixed it within minutes. Last two - they repaired in warranty the battery of my Specialized Turbo Levo, following up with work updates and arranging for re-delivery at my convenience. Last weekend, Raphael and Junior repaired with no charge my wrongly-assembled cassette and put me on the road back again... and all of this with just few minutes of work... I have a ten year old red Diamondback bicycle that I had not used for about two years. It needed mainly a new brake cable and a tune-up. I procrastinated in getting it fixed because I did not want to spend more then the bike is worth. I took it to a place in New Canaan where I reside, at the recommendation of a friend who had his old bike worked on. Sadly, I was told within about thirty seconds the bike needed $300 worth of work. New chain, new rubber shocks, two new tires, brake pads, brake cable. You get the picture? Then, surprisingly I was asked if I wanted to donate my bike for charity, and purchase a new more expensive one? I was then directed to some silly Facebook page for used bikes? I walked out of there and put my bike back in our SUV really disappointed and wondered what happened to my recommendation. A few days later I was going to go to Walmart in Norwalk and buy a new mountain bike for $140 and call it a day. However, I did like my Diamondback as it suited my large frame. My luck suddenly changed when I discovered Danny's Cycles in Darien, CT and met Ed! We bantered back and forth about the bike's needs and I told him, like the old muffler commercials "I'm NOT going to pay a lot for this bicycle repair." Ed "got it" immediately and recognized that I'm not an avid bike rider, I ride my bike to Waveny Park and then park it and go for a run. Then ride home in ten minutes. Ed was wonderful, he offered to fix the brake cable, put on a new chain and two new tubes for $113. A heck of lot less then $300 plus. He also called me the same day and had the bike fixed. I picked it up the next day and was informed that I owed another measly $12 for a new brake pad! It was such a pleasant experience and left me wondering; what did I do differently that I was able to get the bike fixed in the price range I was expecting. It will likely take a few more visits to firm up my impressions of this place. Danny's Cycles is located on the Eastside of the main downtown area, on Main street. There's free parking in the garage adjacent. For the size, I felt the merchandise was a little bit sparse, but this is the caveat that I come most recently from a city where bike stores have smaller footprints and they're trying to maximize space. I felt the accessories and clothing was on the light side, with not a lot of selection. I like to just generally browse in different bike stores just to see what they have, and at first impression I wasn't wowed. The guy on staff in the front was mostly indifferent as well, asking me if I needed any help and didn't really engage me after I mentioned I was new to the area and just browsing. I was about to head out, and was actually halfway back to my car when I remembered I needed a bolt for my rear rack, as I'd lost it somewhere. I made my way back in and asked if they had anything. His attitude immediately brightened and he took me back to the mechanic shop area. They gave me an extra bolt for no charge, which was really nice. So I'll be back, and hopefully the store will look a little less sparse when I'm there next time. read more

I would never recommend this shop to anyone. For a routine tune-up involving truing of wheels and adjusting of the derailleur, Frank (the person in charge of repairs) cut my chain, brake and shifter cables, destroyed the cable housing, and took off the brakes. He claimed that all these parts needed to be replaced and proceeded to show me an almost $400 bill. This bill quoted charges for parts at almost twice their actual MSRP (while claiming to be the MSRP). I had to pay up $50 just to get my bike back in worse condition than I left it in and with one less brake. To undo this damage and to get the tune-up I originally requested cost me a very reasonable $110 in a reputable New York-based bike shop. Be warned, this is not a place I would entrust my bike to for repairs or put any faith in their honesty. read more

I wanted to buy cycling shoes and they didnt have my size. I had to special order my size and i wasnt about to do that especially when buying shoes. I was told to try the scarsdale store. TL;DR: My bike broke down the first 4 miles after getting my bike "fixed" by them. They remedy the solution by actually fixing the bike, absorbing service fees, and sneaking in equivalent hidden fees... Full Story: I brought my bike in for a check-up, they looked and messed with it for 10 minutes and gave me the green light to ride, while warning me that I would soon need to replace the tires (which they would do for $25 + a $10 installation fee each tire). I was eager to ride and figured I would do it another day. 4 MILES LATER, my bike breaks down entirely in the back and I call them and describe them the situation I am in, the guy on the phone's response is "I don't know what to say but you can bring it here if you like...". I bring it over, they replace my back-tire at first for full charge, I then complain and they absorb the $10 service fee while at the same time sneaking in a $10 HIDDEN fee for a new rubber. Charging for a rubber may be standard practice, but lying to your customer about the cost of a purchase is downright shady. In the end, I felt very uncomfortable with my entire experience with them. The prices may seem high to those who are used to the big box stores prices but they're actually not. You pay for the stellar customer service and great bikes (that won't break down every 3 months). Wow! What should I say about John. He is a terrific guy. we just bought a bike for my wife. John started from the basics, telling her what sorts of bikes to look at, whats the difference between different bikes, how gears work, whats the right frame size, etc. My wife is kind of a newbie, and in other shops she was hesitant to even ask. But John made sure that she tested all sorts of bikes. They let us, infact encouraged us, to test ride. They have a big parking area, where you can easily ride around. The Trek Bodega which we wanted wasn't available for her size. John called up some other shop and got it from there! Basically rather than pushing us to buy the wrong size, he made it happen the right way. Really appreciate it. Infact my wife was wearing sandals, so he even fitted her with brand new shoes and fresh pair of socks! Little things like getting a matching color helmet, right fit, matching bottle cage, spare tires. We ended up buying the twin bike mount for our Audi, even though it was cheaper on Amazon, because John helped us mount it. We didn't expect that! This is the place to go if you want a bike. I am from India and just came here. This was by far the best shopping experience. Just to point out, the prices of the accessories are higher than what you will get on Amazon. So may be you can skip that part. But for the bike, you have to get it from there :) Way to go Dannys! Keep it up! read more

My friend was in Tobay triathlon Aug 23, 2014, rented a road bike from Sunrise Cyclery, which was awesome and were very happy with it. Two days later when returning his rented bike, I needed my bike break pad adjust and was told it wasn't a simple work, need to leave the bike over night that the work was involved. I couldn't leave the bike cuz I had no way of picking it up. We are going on a camping trip this Labor Day weekend, tomorrow, taking our bikes, my bike need to be fixed, so he took my bike with him so he can try to get it fix near by him which was Danny's Cycles. Yesterday he took my bike to Danny's Cycles, SURPRISINGLY THEY FIXED IT IN SECONDS NO CHARGE. what can I say?! Let's see how well it works over the weekend, very happy for now!! read more

They called the next day to save the service had been completed. The service could not have been friendlier or the people more helpful. I've got to say I rarely write these things. It's only when something is really good or really bad. In this case, I am happy to report it has all been great. Danny's has gone out of their way to make a tough situation great. I unfortunately had a frame crack on a new bike that I purchased here. (BTW, Trek was great through this as well.) Since it was a complete writeoff for the bike, it took Trek a while to process the claim. Instead of making it my issue, Danny's let me use at no cost a rental bike for the entire time I was out of commission. read more
