This place is great! We were visiting the area on a small weekend family trip. That evening, we wanted to grab something to take out for dinner. This place seemed highly rated, so we gave it a go. I called in the order, and the woman who took my order over the phone was very polite and set up time expectations that were pretty exact for our order. We ordered the Honey Bee pizza, which was a spicy pizza with local honey drizzled over the pizza. It was great! Never had anything like it, and it was quite good. We ordered rom Danny Boys while staying at Kalahari over the weekend. We had a group of 25 people and ordered 6 pizzas, along with onion rings, tater tots, mozzarella sticks. Tater tots were crispy and had a seasoning on them. They were very good! Onion rings were battered well and the onion did not slide out when you bite into it like so many others do. Excellent! Took my son to Great Wolf Lodge for his birthday, and saw the good reviews for this place, so decided to try it out. Unfortunately, it was one of the few times that I really think Yelp has it wrong. Unlike, the other poor reviews, I really did not have an issue with the service. But, I did find it odd that the hostess had trouble figuring out where to seat a party of four in a relatively empty restaurant. Granted, it was 6pm on a Friday and I had my two young kids, so maybe they had concerns about the dinner rush. My real issue for this place was the food. We ordered a kids mac and cheese, an Italian Magherita pizza, garlic bread and the Bistro Chicken Salad. The highlight was the salad. It was nothing extraordinary, but was as advertised and quite tasty. My issue was with the pizza dough. It appears they use the same dough for all the bread products, whether it be for garlic bread, pizza crust, bread sticks or bread knots. The garlic bread and bread sticks were tasty, but it just taste plain wrong as a pizza base. It was far too doughy and reminded me a lot of the kind you get at Cici's or a gas station. Both of which I have tried more than I like to admit. The toppings were nice, but the crust just ruined the experience for me and my wife. Also, for what you are paying, I just think you would get better value at one of the chains on the same road. No delivery to Sawmill Creek Resort. We called for pick-up and took the food back to our room. The restaurant seemed nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. An order of boneless wings split into hot and garlic parmesan were great. They were a little heavy on the garlic, but that's kind of expected at an Italian restaurant. The pizza was delicious and the Jimmy Whispers (Italian) sandwich was good. Based on those selections, I would definitely like to try other items on the menu. I'm not sure I'll have the time to order again in my time left in the area (gotta try other places!), but I would give this place a glowing recommendation to anyone else thinking about trying it out. read more

This place is pretty awesome. Really loved the decor with emphasis on the Rat Pack, gangster and mob culture, and the hipster music scene from the mid 20th century. The menu is broad and the service was friendly. Crowd seemed steady for Thursday night dinner but the food came relatively quickly. My coworker and I tried a couple different pizzas, wings, cheesy garlic bread, grilled chicken nachos, and a house salad. The California pizza was delicious as was everything else. My only complaint would be that the nachos had too many chips with not enough toppings to cover them. Large potions were nice and the prices are very reasonable. Jen was our server and she was top notch, she took our drink order very shortly after we sat down. We ordered the funnel fries with chocolate sauce for our appetizer. Funnel fries came out quickly and hot. 2 of us ordered wings and my youngest ordered a salad and fries. We also ordered the meatball appetizer. All the food was served quickly and the hot food came out hot and the cold food cold. All the while our sever checked in from time to time and keep our drinks full. We were in town to go to Kalahari water park and we stopped here on our way back home. We were served by Grady who was bartending and he made us bloody marys that were the perfect level of spice. Food was amazing. Great service. Rat pack atmosphere with large portions and the perfect amount of spice. They apparently speak their own food language up here in Sandusky - I would've called what I got a Calzone but they called it a Wuzzle or something like that that started with a W. We arrived near closing and the food was prepared as if we came in the middle of the day. Hot, fresh, large portions and friendly staff. Great place for families and big appetites. The walls are covered with famous Italian American stars (I.e. dean martin, sopranos, etc) which gives it a cool, nostalgic vibe. We were very disappointed. The food was good but service ruined the whole experience. We waiting at least 25 minutes for drinks and the waitress did not come back between that time to give us water or anything. Finally 1 drink came but not the other. Then 1 out of the 2 appetizers came out so half our party was sitting waiting for food while the other half had theirs. The first appetizer was the chips and dip. They are not chips! Pizzas came out and were also hot and good. We got the honey bee and the clevelander pizzas. The honey bee was delicious but was spicy! The clevelander was lacking but was decent. Then they tried to charge us $12 for a drink that was on the weekly special menu for $3! Then the waitress asked if we wanted dessert and we said yes and ordered one but did not received it for awhile so we asked the waitress and she didn't put in the order. Overall food was delicious but service was VEEERRRYY lacking which knocked it down to a 2 star. It was disappointing. There was no sympathy or apology for our bad experience. Danny Boys was just what my family was craving-classic, Italian food. The fresh dough here is very tasty. I really enjoyed the chicken woogie-the chicken was very tender and juicy inside of their homemade pizza dough. The house made chips were also delicious, and my husband really enjoyed his chicken parm. The service here was top-notch, and our server was very personable. I also loved the vibe in here and the classic crooner music. The menu is extensive, so we'll definitely be back on our next visit to Sandusky. This is more of a 3.5 star review. Hubby and I chose Danny Boy's because it was right across the street from our hotel! How convenient! The menu was pretty extensive but mostly in the sandwich category. The prices were a bit high for what they were offering. For example, my hubby got the asparagus salad and it was $12 for a basic iceberg lettuce base. The asparagus was delicious but for a no-meat salad, $12 is pricey. No free bread basket or anything. His salad came with a thin strip of salty garlic bread (yummy but small!). Our waitress was friendly enough but she was also the bartender and talked up a storm with the two people at the bar instead of getting our orders or our checks. We had to wait almost 10 minutes for her to wrap up her conversation with those people before coming to our table. Heard great things about this place so we decided to have our moms 87-th birthday party there. We had a party of about 16 and we walked in on a Saturday morning at 11:00 right when they opened. The place was empty. We had a birthday cake we wanted to bring in with us. The girl at the front counter immediately told us that we could not bring it in due to "health" reasons. Never heard that before as we have done this numerous times around different restaurants in Sandusky. So we took our 16 people party, went to Chet and Matt's. They told us, absolutely you can bring your birthday cake in no problem. They even supplied us with plates, forks and a knife to cut it with. Thanks to the recommendation of a friend who lives outside of Cleveland, we hit Danny Boy's as a part of our trip to Cedar Point. Everything was great. And although I'm not sure it was good for business, the Saturday when we were there it was totally dead so my two kids could make a ton of noise and not bother anyone! We tried The Clevelander but with a thinner, more pan-like crust so that we didn't have to go deep dish (we live in Chicago and I already have a minor weight problem). Solid, and the pepperoni was fantastic. Prior to this we had the super-doughy breadsticks and that on its own would have normally been enough to complete my meal. Since the kids were with us, we also got a couple of the warm chocolate chip cookies...trouble! Those were great too and you can't go wrong with warm-baked anything, so those were gone in a flash. Reasonable prices and very family friendly. Certainly this will become a regular thing if we make summer trips to Cedar Point! read more
