They have amazing kolaches, the prices are super reasonable, and the drive-thru is so convenient. The glazed donut absolutely slapped. The chocolate donut... unfortunately did not. My wife and I ordered at the drive through on two separate occasions. We later found out after we got back to our beach rental that we BOTH received the wrong food. This place has a very limited menu. So to screw up two separate orders is a result of either 1) laziness, 2) indifference, 3) poor training, or 4) maliciousness. Dannay's Donuts was the only donut and kolache shop within a reasonable distance to our beach house, so naturally we decided to give it a try. The service of the girls in the drive thru was fast, efficient, and friendly. We tried the sausage, cheese, jalapeño kolache as well as a couple of blueberry glazed donuts. The kolache fillings were tasty and the spicy and tangy jalapeño shone through, but the thing that stuck out to me the most was the bread wrapped around the sausage. Upon taking my first bite, the dough tasted a bit off. While this off flavor was very mild, the entire kolache had an ever so subtle scent of incense. The blueberry glazed donut was delightful--very fluffy and light. I just wish that the blueberry was a bit more pronounced in their blueberry cake. I can't speak much to the cleanliness of the interior since we only used the drive thru, but this is a good and reliable spot to pick up some breakfast while you're chilling at a nearby beach house! read more

If you are visiting: this is where you go because there aren't other donut options If you live here: this is where you work when you've given up on life. No one working here looked happy. I think this is where dreams come to die. The donuts (which are probably made from the tears of those that work here) are okay. They have a pretty good selection and quite a few jelly filled options. Two great experiences here. I was staying right down the road and in the area for work. (Work was about 45 minutes north.) I stopped by twice to pick up goodies for the field office. To be clear, I was there right when they opened at 4 AM, so things were about as fresh as they could possibly have been. They were literally bringing out hot, fresh goods while I was there. One of the fresh cake donuts I had just about melted in my hand (mmmmm!). Nothing on the main display was day-old, that was clear. Some of the stuff in the glass case may have been - I'm not sure - but if it was, it was still tasty. I got old-fashioned donuts, blueberry cake donuts, different kind of kolaches, breakfast tacos, croissant breakfast sandwiches, and other good stuff that I'm forgetting. I didn't try every item, but I had my share. All were tasty and everything tasted fresh. Staff wasn't over friendly, but they certainly weren't unfriendly - just professional and efficient. I didn't over-scrutinize prices as everything went on the company card, but they seemed fair. Interior was simple and not particularly large. Hopefully they enforce the limited capacity during COVID-19 fun or it would be easy to pack that little place. That wasn't a worry for me at 4 AM. :) I'll be back next work trip if we stay in the area again! read more

Place was busy and I can only assume it's because they're the only donut shop on the peninsula. We went just before 730 Sunday morning. We got a couple of donuts, bacon & egg tacos & pigs in a blanket to go (we had to get the big ones as they were out of the small ones). I'm unsure what sausage was in the pig in blanket- I took 2 bites and had to spit them out. Since those were a fail I was glad to have the taco.... until I took a bite. Yuck! I have no idea what it tasted like but it sure wasn't eggs or bacon! The insides were brown in color although this picture actually shoes some yellow. Either way it was disgusting and made me gag. I was able to eat the cinnamon donut that tasted 1-3 days old. This place has a lot it can do to be a good donut shop. Until it improves, we will not be back & would encourage you to not waste your time or hard earned money. Gas station prepackaged donuts are WAY BETTER than Dannays. read more

No eye contact, we felt rushed. We paid then, when she didn't give me the coffee I ordered or the croissant, I politely asked about them and she yelled at me!! I've never been yelled at like that. She insisted that I didn't order a croissant then took the next persons order. Meh. Mediocre and not fresh. The business apparently can get away with this because they are the only donut shop on the entire Bolivar Peninsula. I suppose you could get some donuts from The Big Store's grocery section, but other than that it's Dannay's or nothing if you want donuts at the beach. I got a dozen assorted donuts that were unremarkable. Some tasted like they were from the previous day. They were heavy, dry, and the filling in the filled donuts was partially sunk into the dough when I bit into them. Those donuts TOTALLY weren't made that morning, I could tell. Eclairs are supposed to have dark chocolate frosting on them, not milk chocolate like Dannay's. Either they don't know the recipe or they are too cheap to have multiple types of chocolate frosting. I also got a few biscuit sandwiches: sausage-egg-cheese and bacon-egg-cheese. The biscuits were overly sweet, the eggs didn't taste like they were cracked and cooked in the shop, and there was barely any cheese on them. Considering these offerings are specifically for people who want savory instead of sweet and don't want donuts, it doesn't make any sense for the biscuits to be so sugary. The owners of Dannay's apparently didn't think that through. The one thing that was good about Dannay's was that they were relatively inexpensive. But I doubt I'll ever go back there. The sausage and cheese kolache had one piece of cheese that was 1/4 of a Kraft single. All five they I got were like that. The donuts were average, except for the apple fritter, it was also disappointing. Next time I'll drive a little further or just go without. read more

A trip to Texas is not complete without some kolaches for the road. A few years ago when I was loading up my kids to leave Crystal Beach they started complaining that they were hungry. Since I knew a long drive would be brutal with starving kids, I checked Yelp and discovered Dannays. Dannays is a typical Texas donut shop. They have all the standard pastry items, but they also have kolaches. It amazes me that the kolache craze hasn't really taken off in Louisiana, but rest assured, they are awesome. The kids got donuts and I got jalapeno and cheese kolaches. I can't comment on the donuts, but their kolaches were excellent. The pillowy soft bread was paired with the spicy cheese filled sausage. Yum. You can either drive through or walk in. Just know that if you drive through and have a manual like my Jeep did, the drive thru is very steep. Use caution so you don't roll back in to the giant lifted F-250 behind you. read more

On our annual summer trips to Crystal Beach we usually don't venture far off the course of house-beach-house, but at least one day out of the week we have to make a trip to Dannay's for donuts. Before Ike, Dannay's was a little cabin off the main road that was just big enough to hold a few people waiting to order. Now it's a pretty big concrete structure with a real parking lot and even a drive-thru! Sure, you'll wait in a line, after all it is THE donut store of Crystal Beach, but once you get the buttery kolaches in your hands, you'll know why you waited. They also have classic old-fashioned cake donuts and all the fancier options too. The people taking your order are not rushed in the least, which can be a little frustrating when you're waiting to order and watching them move at a snail's pace but that's beach life for ya! read more

Unfortunately it seems like they are getting worse with each visit (maybe the ownership changed). The Kolaches were sub-par and you could tell they chose the cheapest of ingredients. Really enjoyed this place recently. We rented a cabin nearby for a week and I went in three times during our six day stay to pick up breakfast. There were 2-3 folks behind the counter and ordering was quick and polite. The donuts and kolache's are great. By the third morning I was looking extremely forward to my visit and for several days after getting back home, I missed their really good sausage kolache's. We also had breakfast tacos there. Here, I have to be a little critical. I live in Austin (the breakfast taco center of the universe) and I am extremely spoiled for the quality of breakfast tacos Austin offers. Although Dannays are reasonably priced, the quality is just average. I have to give them one thing though, I've never, ever seen a breakfast taco rolled as neatly as theirs - think Asian spring roll!
