Local Dogs is a gem in Galveston. Went in at 2:00 pm on a Monday, no line. About 5 other people inside eating. The place was bright and airy. Staff was very friendly. Didn't get drinks but there was a small bar. The food was fantastic! Ordered the pizza and New York with the fries corn. All really good! Already planning to go back again soon.
Our party of 5 arrived at 11:30 on a Friday. They were not busy. We ordered all of our food and sides and were able to get our seat at the big tables right away. The ambiance definitely had a cute, beach vibe with its open airy feel. I ordered The Local which had a beef hot dog, queso, ground beef and Rotel. We also ordered sides of fries, deviled eggs (so tasty with pepper jelly and bacon), Cajun corn and hash browns. The hot dog was very good. What impressed me the most was the bun which I learned was made in house. I ate pieces of the bread with the queso alone. Yum! I would definitely eat here again.
Local Dog - This was the last day of our vacation, and I wanted fun food without spending another zillion dollars. Local Dog has a fun menu and great prices. I had the all-beef hot dog ($6) and hubby had the bacon-wrapped dog. GREAT hot dogs with amazing, soft buns. They have dirty sodas (love)! The deviled eggs were wonderful, too. We went all out trying fun menu items and still spent less than $40 for both of us. We would come back on another trip to try some more menu items. The inside has plenty of seating, and they also have outdoor seating. Service was great. We had a delicious, relaxing dinner. One-star reviews seem to be people complaining about their pets being relegated to the outdoor seating area. This is for health code reasons, folks. Just because a hot dog joint has a picture of a dog for their logo doesn't mean you need to have a meltdown when your dog is not allowed inside a restaurant. Five stars all the way for a casual, yummy meal!
Cute place! Between 3 of us we tried the Coney Island, Chicago, and Philly dogs (veggie). All were very tasty! Super soft buns too. Don't skip out on the fries (devoured them) or the frosé... it tastes like they muddle strawberries and mix them into it. Yum! There is plenty of room indoors and a nice area outside, but I will say they could definitely be more dog-friendly. With their name and all the dogs with their logo, it'd be extra cute if they had a little dog menu. There's an area that looks like a place where dogs could play but it is for children. That's a brilliant idea if it kept all the kids in there away from other diners but that's sadly not the case. Less kids - more dogs! All in all, worth stopping in.
The beef sliders were like 3 mini smash burgers'. Excellent. Deviled egg were wonderful per my wife, as i don't do deviled eggs!' Fast fast food service Will be back
First time trying this local spot out. Very clean and inviting on the outside and the inside. Large community style seating was great. Our server was very friendly and explained the menu. He even gave us suggestions as first timers. The food came out quick and was hot and fresh. The fries are fresh cut skin on. They were delicious. The Local Dog comes covered is queso. The Philly Dog is smothered in Peppers, Onions and Cheese. If you're on Galveston this is a must for a quick meal at a good price. Lots of other options on the menu. Don't pass them up!
Why 5 stars? Because these dogs were delicious and not overly filling. --- --- --- My in-laws have made it an annual tradition to get a beach house in Galveston around Thanksgiving every year and Local Dogs was our first stop after we arrived into town. We have a great hot dog place near us in Conroe, but the negative is that after we eat there, we leave with bricks in our stomach. Here, I had a couple of hot dogs and some sides and left feeling like a million bucks. I think the key is that they are not too big, which also gives the benefit of being able to try more, because the menu is full of awesome variety. I went with the Chicago Dog (plus ketchup, minus mustard obviously), and the french dip. I'd give the Chicago 5-stars and the french dip 4. I also appreciated that they had cheese curds as a side, something I'll always opt for when it's on a menu. The fries were really solid too. I also walked next door and grabbed a snow cone, which was super basic, but did the job of allowing me to end the meal with something sweet.
Heck yes I recommend! NYC dog was stellar. The sauerkraut & mustard was perfect. Pork sliders have apple in the slaw so if that's your jam, you'll love it! If not, get one of the other amazing options. Service is top notch and you can't beat the laid back, family vibes. Super light & bright w family style seating and immaculately clean.

I've been hearing it's been crowded here since opening, but today there was almost no wait and we were able to get a table for our whole group (10 people). It's nice how they have the long communal tables. Philly cheesesteak dog was very good but next time I want to try the local dog. Fried very fresh but could have been crispier. Cheese curds were amazing. I want to give a demerit for having Pepsi instead of Coke but I enjoyed my visit so much, I won't complain. Nice merch too. I walked out with a good quality new hat.

The staff were friendly and the games outside made it more of an experience rather than just lunch. Ashley and Michael did an amazing job renovating this building into something not only beautiful but a place with delicious hotdogs!! Idk what kind of bun/grilled bread they use but it's amazing!

New to Galveston - Local Dogs! This place has a nice variety of gourmet dogs and sliders. Today was actually the first day open for regular business. We ordered a few different types of dog combos. The hot dogs were great - gourmet quality without a long wait. I enjoyed all of the dogs. We also ordered cheese curds which my son demolished. The place is cool - you can watch Ashley and Mike on TV here. Can't wait to come back!!
Very cool vibes like a surf shack just off the beach. Funny signs in the men's bathroom. Service was friendly and efficient. Good food. My wife recently went to New York and confidently said the hot dogs here were better. We got a Philly and a NYC dog and a couple of plain dogs. Philly dog was good not a single issue but I happened to bite into my NYC dog first and it stole the show. Had a bite of a plain dog and it was good and then added some mustard and it is some top notch mustard. Fries are hand cut and rock. Cheese curds might be the best I've ever had with top tier ranch!

August 30, 2026 Met a friend for lunch. Got a combo with drink and FF. Tried the NYC dog and the Local dog. She tried the Philly and Chicago. The weiners are Nathan's all beef. All the hotdogs on the menu are $8 each except the French Dip $9 and the Carolina $10. When making it a combo (add FF and a drink) add $7 more. My total was $23 for 2 hotdogs, a drink and a FF. The NYC had onions and sauerkraut, the Local had blended queso w/ground beef. The Philly has peppers, onions and provolone, and the Chicago had veggies. All the dogs tasted good cuz they're Nathan's, the bread used was fresh, FF were tasty, the wieners could be hotter (temperature wise) upon serving. And there could be more ground beef in the queso on the Local dog. The sodas have the good ice...soft airy crunchy. The menu offers other items, chicken tenders, sliders, grilled cheese, frito pie, salads, deviled eggs, fried cheese curds, fried pickles, etc They have several beer choices, frose', wine and frozen margaritas (made with wine) Connected to restaurant is their snow cone place. Would definitely recommend! We live in Austin and had to make a quick day trip to League City to take my dad. We had recently watched the show featuring the restaurant's renovation and realized we were only about 30 minutes away. Since I rarely get to that part of Texas, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to check it out. The atmosphere was relaxed and laid-back, the service was great, and we loved the dogs. But the unexpected highlight? The French fries--they were some of the best I've ever had! Definitely worth the stop, and we're glad we made the short detour before heading home. read more

Ordered: - Coney Islander - They used a thick toast like bun instead of a traditional bun. I liked their bun. I did to go and waiting about 15 minutes from the time I received my hot dog to when ate it so the bun was a little bit soggy at the end of the hotdog from the chili, so consumer error but I think it would be better if I ate it at the restaurant. It definitely satisfied a craving for a chili cheese dog. - Fries - alright a little bit on the floppy side but that might also be consumer error since the hot steam could've have trapped the heat and made them soft. read more

I love a good hot dog! Local Dogs is super modern and a classic atmosphere. I was debating on how many dogs to get but I knew I wanted cheese curds. I opted for one dog. I also ordered a dirty soda. The food is good. I will say the bun was a lot of bread for me. The curds were really good as well as the dirty soda. I did feel like the prices were a bit high for what you get. I would definitely come back though. I love the community table vibe for dining indoors. read more

Hot dogs were amazing here!! The owners are always welcome doing hard to make sure everyone is well taken care of. Big space with family style seating in and out and even bar seating. The snocone place next store is a huge plus. My only complaint is the sink in the bathroom has a short funnel and water squirts everywhere/all over you. I thought this was odd considering their reputation. I'm sure it's something they're working on. read more

We stopped by for lunch while in Galveston visiting the Bryan Museum. We've been wanting to try it since we watched the episode on Restoring Galveston. It was a Thursday afternoon. We had no trouble finding a parking spot. Walked right up to the window to order and were surprised to see Michael working. Ordered and took our seats in their large dining area. Soon after our hot dogs arrived. Fast and friendly service. Michael walked around the dining area greeting guests and thanking them for stopping by. He even made a balloon animal for the little boy sitting at the other side of our shared space table. Hot dogs were great and fries were fresh. We'll definitely be back. read more

Local Dogs - A Great Galveston Stop! Just got back from Galveston after getting some awesome drone footage of the Carnival Dream leaving port and needed a bite before hitting the road back to Houston. Checked Yelp and Local Dogs was high on the list, so I stopped in around 5 PM. I can see why it's so well-rated--it's a solid spot! The Good Stuff (The "Pros") * The staff was incredibly friendly, making for a very welcoming experience. * The entire restaurant was spotlessly clean, and I appreciated the open kitchen concept--you can tell they take pride in their space. * My food came out super fast! I'm not sure if that's standard, but it wasn't busy when I was there. * The main event, the hot dog, was genuinely tasty. I got the Coney Islander (chili, onions, cheese, and mustard). It hit the spot! * A small but important detail: the fountain drink ice is fantastic! It's like a smaller, chewable nugget/pebble ice. A+ for that. * They even have free stickers (grabbed a couple for my drone case) --- Room for Improvement (The "Cons") * The biggest letdown was the fries. They were a bit limp and definitely needed to be double-fried for some much-needed crispiness. * The sugar-free drink options are very limited--only Pepsi Zero and iced tea. Would love to see a few more zero-sugar choices. Overall Despite the fries, I really enjoyed my stop at Local Dogs. The friendly service, clean environment, and tasty dog make it a great spot for a quick and satisfying meal in Galveston. I'd recommend checking it out. read more

We have gone back twice since my first review...they are the same quality and value as before. In fact, we liked it so much we went for lunch two weekends in a row when we came to Galveston (from houston to go to the beach). -- Pup in tow .. thanks local dogs ! read more

Quality of the hotdog is still delicious so are the deviled eggs per usual. We got the Cajun Corn this time and it was spot on. Of course the dirty drinks are the best here and the hotdog are delicious. The customer service is on point. If they aren't too busy, people will walk around clean up your table and bring you anything you need which is really a bonus when you think of a hot dog place because you think casual, but the service is top-notch. Parking is never an issue and we came on opening day last time. read more

Finally had a chance to take my two wieners here and I'm glad I did. Place is super clean and organized, and the staff was extra friendly and helpful with what to order, what's popular, and even offered sides, drinks, and desserts. They've also got some cool local dog hats and T-shirts. I went with the Local and the Coney Islander (chili cheese dog) and both were on point I would def recommend to try them both! One thing I have to say that I truly love about their Coney Islander (chili dog) is that the chili didn't have running juice going everywhere on the bun making it soggy. The hot dog buns were really good too soft, fresh, and held everything together perfectly and never ripped apart like most buns. Some of the best dogs I've ever had! A+ read more

So happy we tried this new spot! There were a few parking spaces available out front which were appreciated. When we pulled up, there was already a line of people waiting for it to open. A good sign! The menu was great with hot dog and non-hot dog options. My husband got the Chicago and French Dip while I opted for a non-dog option and got the chicken salad sliders. Both hot dogs were great, but the French Dip was definitely better. The only complaint my husband had was that he expected them to be a little bigger which is why he ended up having to get 2. My chicken salad sliders were delish and the perfect amount of food for me. We sat outside on the patio which was nice and definitely kid friendly with there being a lot of outdoor games to play. Only suggestion I'd make would be to have some music or something playing out there to break up the silence. We will definitely be back! read more

Saw there was a new restaurant on the island and wanted to try it. Loved the cute decor, you can tell that everything was done with intention. I also love that the patio is dog friendly. I ordered the build your own vegan hot dogs and fries. Customer service was great and I appreciate the inclusivity of offering a vegan option since alot of places that sell hot dogs do not. I look forward to going back again some day to try something else since they offer more than just hot dogs. read more

Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere! I couldn't finish the Philly because it was bland and the cheese had a rubbery texture. The hush puppies and jam were absolutely delicious. You could tell they were made from scratch, which made them stand out. Because of that, I ordered the chicken tenders hoping for the same quality, but they tasted more frozen than fresh. The fries were also soggy. The staff was friendly but not very attentive. I hope the food and service grow to match the amazing space because I'd love to come back and give it another try. read more
