This review is long overdue and I regret I've waited so long to share my experience with Mr. Mike…read moreand his staff. Let's start with the staff. ALWAYS kind, courteous, and professional. That's not the norm nowadays so I appreciate how well I'm treated over the phone as well as at the front desk. In fact, I visited another office that I would never go back to based on how rude the woman at the front desk was. The office is equipped with top of the line equipment and it's kept immaculate. The dental hygienist are thorough and I'm very pleased with the results of my cleanings. About Dr. Mike, he has a sense of humor and is personable. I felt confident with him and his proficiency from my very first visit. He is thorough in his examinations, and explains to you while showing you on your films, what your dental issues are and he discusses with you a treatment plan to include an estimate of the services needed before you begin the work. I've never felt any discomfort, pain, or anxiety while Dr. Mike is working on my teeth, and I am always pleased with his work. I just so happen to have needed to have very extensive work so I visited with three other dentist on the island, and although two others were quite good, I've chosen to stay with Dr. Mike. I have every confidence in him and his office. I highly recommend Dr. Michael Miyamoto :)

Ashton is the reason I go to the dentist consistently now…read more I had my 1 PM appointment today at the Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center location, and once again, Ashton delivered an exceptional experience. He's professional, thorough, and genuinely cares about making you feel comfortable. The cleaning was smooth, efficient, and completely painless--something I never thought I'd say about a dental visit. Ashton takes pride in his work and treats every patient with care and respect. He's the reason I've been able to stick to my dental routine. If you're booking an appointment here, ask for Ashton. You'll be glad you did.

JUST AN FYI FOR DENTAL PATIENTS…read more.. Re: Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center... Last month our regular dentist in Kihei put a temporary filling in my husband's front, lower tooth that was bothering him and said it needed to be extracted. It would need to be done surgically because of the condition of the tooth and the fact it was impacted, so they set up a referral appointment for Dec. 19th at Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center. They gave us an estimate of a little over $300 for the procedure. We live on limited Social Security income, so started saving for the appointment. Last week the filling came out and the tooth broke off. There wasn't much pain except for the sharp edge which was cutting the inside of my husband's lip and tongue. We called the Kaahumanu office and they nicely arranged for the extraction to be done on Oct. 10th. When we arrived, the nice ladies in front collected $150 because we told her we didn't have the full $325 or so needed, took my debit card info and agreed to run it on Oct. 29th for the balance owing. After a bit of a wait, the nurse came into the examination room to take 2 X-rays, and Terry told her he would need Nitrous due to the fact he had gone through a dental surgery many years ago where the doctor crushed a molar while extracting it and, as a result, Terry is a "white knuckle" patient. She informed him that would be an additional $158, due and payable prior to surgery. Terry told her we are having to save up for the procedure as is, and couldn't come up with that much that day. Since we couldn't pay the $158 that day, Terry asked that the doctor just grind down the edge that was cutting his lip and tongue, as we had originally requested for that day, until the extraction appointment, so he would be okay until the scheduled appointment Dec. 19th. The doctor walked into the room, struck a rather comical pose and very snottily informed him, "I am a SURGEON and I don't do that!" So we left... with the broken tooth still gouging Terry's mouth inside the lip. We asked them to apply the $150 already paid towards the original appointment for Dec. 19th, then went home and used our Dremel ourselves to grind the sharp edge.................. since we AREN'T surgeons and we DO what is needed to relieve pain and damage! On Oct. 13th I called their billing dept and complained. I also requested the $150 we prepaid be refunded since Dr. Sahdev didn't do anything. After a bit of a delay the woman came back and informed us they could only refund twenty some odd dollars since the doctor DID "consult" with the patient. I informed her that was unacceptable. She said she would have her supervisor call me back. I still had not received the promised callback by the 15th, so called once again, after discovering through my online banking app that the charge had posted to my account on Oct. 14th, in full ($150). Once again, I was told a supervisor would call me back. Here it is, Oct. 16th. My husband still has a tooth that needs to come out. We've filed the sharp edges ourselves so he's not in pain. We are out $150 for nothing and their billing department supervisor STILL has not seen fit to return my call. Would we recommend this practice to anyone else? Absolutely NOT!

I had made an appointment with an upcountry dentist, but they were unable to get me in for 6 months. I then went to Theodore Dodson's office (his brother Zachary - different office - had done a re-treat (re-do of a root canal, with a post and core, and I found him to be professional). The moment I walked in, I felt uncomfortable. Extremely outdated waiting room. Two assistants? behind the counter, whispering to each other. I told them I would be getting insurance the first of the year and wanted to make an appointment for then. They treated me like a common criminal. Everything in my gut said RUN! Like an idiot I didn't listen and kept the appointment. When I came back in, there was no one at the desk. Finally the dentist came out. Then an assistant showed up. She had me in the x-ray room at least 3 times, shooting, reshooting, and reshooting my xrays. She must have done 20 to 30 xrays, using a handheld device. Finally, the dentist did an "exam" if you could call it that. Then HE proceeded to do the cleaning, using nothing but a water device, no glasses for me, water spraying everywhere, talking the whole time. It was a nightmare. I couldn't wait to get out of there, and swore I would never go back. They later called me, threatening to take me to collections for payment, even though they had been paid by my insurance company. DO NOT GO THERE!

This happened quite a while ago but it has a lasting impact on my life and I have gone back and…read moreforth about sharing it. When I had my braces with Conmy he told me that I was missing an adult tooth on the bottom right side and that in order for him to continue treatment I would need it removed. My mom told him we would rather just have the braces removed and discontinue treatment but instead he then said he wouldn't remove my braces until this was done. My dentist even advised against removing my "baby" tooth as it was perfectly fine and healthy and could last for years to come if not the rest of my life. However, the decision was made by Conmy to have it removed. Conmy them said I would need to go to an oral surgeon to have a screw placed to try and pull my remaining molars forward into the space where my tooth had been. This was traumatizing to say the least as it was extremely painful and failed TWICE. I had a screw loose and moving around in my jaw bone cutting into my right cheek and causing me pain for absolutely no reason because this whole "treatment", or what I would call experiment, didn't work. I now have had a hole in my mouth for almost a decade and due to this my teeth have shifted significantly, despite wearing my retainers religiously, and I will need braces or Invisalign again in my 20s. I am personally impacted by this decision for the rest of my life both financially in having to pay for another round of orthodontic treatment and the several thousand dollar titanium implant I will have to have placed in my jaw as well as physically by the pain of this experience which has continued to this day. I would love to note that a friend of mine went to Conmy around the same exact time as me and had the same issue but on the bottom left side of her mouth and guess what? Conmy didn't remove her tooth. I've been wondering for years if he just decided to use me as some guinea pig without my consent...I guess I'll never know. But having Conmy as my orthodontist was one of the worst experiences of my entire life and my experience matters so here I am sharing it. I hope this will help at least one person consider asking more questions and standing up for yourself. I was only 15 at the time, I wish I had used my voice and said no...but I trusted that he knew what was best for me. Thanks for reading this, I appreciate it.
