I made an appointment as a new patient since I got new insurance. After filling out the paperwork, I waited about 25 minutes to be called in. A patient had arrived after me and left before me. When I got called into the patient room, the dentist came in and had a seat. He asked me why I was there and I said for a cleaning and x-rays. He responded with "You're just here for a cleaning and x-rays?? Why couldn't you do that with your previous dentist?" in an unfriendly tone. I said because I got a new insurance. He kind of just looked at me and then got up and left. I felt so unwelcomed by this and even asked the dental hygienist if he was a general dentist because he made it sound absurd that I was there for a cleaning. He was the dentist my new insurance had assigned to me by default, I didn't specifically pick him so like don't flatter yourself. He came back in the room for the cleaning and let me tell you, it was so painful, literally the most painful cleaning of my entire life. He did the metal scraping part and it felt very rushed too. I kept on flinching due to how painful it was. He was even trying to talk politics with me. He asked where I was born and if I was born there or here in the US. After that, he started mentioning BRICS. I thought that was super unprofessional and I felt very uncomfortable. After he was done with the scraping part, he told the dental hygienist to finish the rest and left. I have to say, the dental hygienist was really nice to me, she was trying to comfort me but I was so done at that point. If you're a new patient coming in for something simple, don't. This guy clearly only cares about money. What a terrible first impression for a new patient. I'm never going back there again. God forbid you go to a dentist's office for a cleaning and x-rays. Edit: I'm posting this review over a year later because after visiting a new dentist, I was reminded of why I had to switch offices again in the first place. After calling a few places that had either no one answer, a long wait, or someone who sounded like me calling was a bother, I called Nipomo Dental Arts. I was greeted by such a pleasant and happy voice I honestly thought it was an automated message (in a good way). I was able to get scheduled quickly too with them letting me know of sooner openings as they became available. Upon arrival every single person that worked there was super happy and said hello to me. All the people that worked on me were all very knowledgeable and caring about the process. No one tried to upsell me on anything For my cleaning, Rea was great! I don't think I've ever had a cleaning be so nice or less irritating. Even had to go back for my first cavities and the dentist was really calm and talked me through the whole process so I knew what to expect and feel. I even got a check up call the next day just to see how I was doing. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new or better spot. Really good and happy people that like what they do, and I couldn't ask for anything else.
