My wife was a patient at this practice, and after watching what she went through, I would not…read morerecommend this dentist for cosmetic dental work. She originally went in to have a veneer replaced after having her existing veneers for about 15 years without problems. The replacement repeatedly came off and had to be reattached three times. On the third attempt, additional structure was removed from her natural tooth without her understanding beforehand that this was going to be done. She developed significant tooth sensitivity afterward that has unfortunately persisted. During the course of this treatment, the veneer on the neighboring tooth was also damaged and had to be repaired by the office. That veneer later chipped in the area that had been repaired. What bothered me just as much as the dental problems was how her concerns were handled afterward. When she obtained her records, there was apparently no documentation of the sensitivity she reported or of the damage and repair to the neighboring veneer. When she questioned the dentist about why these significant issues weren't documented, she was extremely frustrated by how dismissively her concerns were addressed. There were also major communication issues with billing. After multiple visits without being told about a substantial outstanding amount, she was eventually surprised with a bill of approximately $850. She disputed the remaining balance because of everything that had occurred, and the practice ultimately sent that disputed balance to collections. I've watched my wife spend an incredible amount of time and energy dealing with something that started as a straightforward replacement of a veneer that had lasted approximately 15 years. She is ultimately paying the remaining bill simply because she wants to be finished with the situation. Obviously, I wasn't the patient in the chair, so I can only speak from my perspective as her husband and to what I personally witnessed her deal with afterward. But after seeing the ongoing sensitivity, the problems with her veneers, and the stress and frustration caused by the way the situation was handled, I would not feel comfortable trusting this practice with my own cosmetic dental work.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with this dentist was so upsetting that I feel…read moreother patients--especially anyone considering veneers or cosmetic dental work--should know what happened. I initially went to this practice to have an existing veneer replaced. I had had my veneers for approximately 15 years without any issues, so I was not new to having veneers or to what living with them should be like. The replacement veneer had to be reattached three separate times because they repeatedly failed to secure it to my tooth. It kept coming off. What was particularly concerning was that it wasn't until the third attempt that the dentist decided to remove additional structure from my natural tooth. There was no discussion with me beforehand about why this was suddenly necessary after two previous attempts, what exactly he was going to do, or the possibility that it could result in increased sensitivity. Following that procedure, I developed significant sensitivity in that tooth that I had never experienced before. About six weeks later, when I returned for the final placement of the veneer, I specifically told the dentist about the sensitivity. He acknowledged that it was most likely related to the additional shaving of my natural tooth. When I tried to discuss what had happened and what could be done about it, he became flustered and essentially told me there was nothing to do but wait. He said the sensitivity might resolve within weeks or months, but that it also might not. Unfortunately, it has persisted. That was not the only problem. During this process, the veneer on the neighboring tooth was damaged while the dentist was working on me. The office repaired the damage they caused, but shortly afterward, that veneer chipped in the same area that had been repaired. Again, these were veneers I had lived with successfully for approximately 15 years before coming to this practice. I later requested a copy of my dental records and was shocked to find no documentation of my complaint about the new tooth sensitivity and no documentation of the damage to the neighboring veneer or the repair they performed on it. I subsequently spoke with the dentist (Harrington) by phone and specifically asked why events that I considered significant to my treatment weren't documented in my chart. His response was essentially that they couldn't document everything, adding something to the effect of, "We can't include everyone's vacations." I was stunned by the comparison. I wasn't asking why casual conversation hadn't been documented. I was asking why a new symptom following treatment and damage to another veneer during that treatment weren't reflected in the records I received. The billing experience added another layer of frustration. I had been back to the office multiple times after our initial discussion about insurance, and no one mentioned that I had a substantial additional balance. More than six months later, as I was leaving the appointment where I had just discussed my ongoing sensitivity, I was suddenly told that I owed approximately $850. I was genuinely shocked. Given everything that had happened, I disputed the remaining balance. The office ultimately sent that disputed balance to a collection agency. I have decided to pay it because I simply do not want to devote any more time or energy to dealing with this practice--not because I believe my concerns were appropriately addressed. I understand that complications can happen with dental work. My negative review isn't based simply on the fact that something went wrong. It is based on the entire way this situation unfolded and was handled: replacing a veneer that had given me no trouble for approximately 15 years, repeatedly failing to secure the replacement, requiring three reattachments, removing additional natural tooth structure on the third attempt without discussing it with me beforehand, leaving me with ongoing sensitivity, damaging a neighboring veneer that subsequently chipped following their repair, failing to document significant aspects of what occurred in the records I received, responding dismissively when I questioned those omissions, poor communication about a substantial bill, and ultimately sending the disputed balance to collections. After this experience, I completely lost confidence in this dentist's clinical judgment and in the way this practice handles problems when they occur. I will not return, and I would not personally trust this practice with cosmetic dental work again.

I found myself sobbing in Dr Lambeth's office recently. Because of a high bill? No. Because I'm…read morescared of Dentists? Maybe. Because I was so overwhelmed with gratitude by the office staff helping me with an impossible feeling situation? Yes. Full disclosure, I get panic attacks at the dentist on a good day, and have multiple cavities that need to be addressed. To make matters worse, in September I suddenly found myself without a job, and with less than a week left to go on my insurance a filling fell out. Food would get impossibly stuck in the hole, and I was cringing at anything hotter or colder than room temp. I was terrified of having to wait to be scheduled, if I could even find someone taking patients in this weird mid-pandemic world, and in utter panic about potentially needing to pay out of pocket to have it fixed. Thank the universe my good friend suggested Dr. Lambeth! His excellent and sympathetic office staff listened to my dilemma and scheduled me IMMEDIATELY for a filling fix. They assessed the situation and went in, but unfortunately I needed a root canal. As my heart rate began to rise with the panic of having to find someone to do a root canal at such short notice, the office staff had already called another office and got me in before the end of the week. Reader, I cried. Right in that office. Everyone behind the counter was gracious and supportive and wished me luck. The specialist they referred me to took care of my root canal and put in a temporary filling that would hopefully last until I secured a new job with dental. Cut to now, and while I am gainfully employed, my insurance is a flat amount each year. I knew I needed a lot of dental work, and I worried that I wouldn't be able to afford everything I need if I couldn't get in before the end of the year for my cap. Again, I told them my situation and they got me in immediately, and even set it up so I'll have my permanent before the end of the year, leaving me with my full insurance amount for 2023 to take care of my cavities and hopefully get in a few cleanings. Plus (with my consent) Dr. Lambeth took care of a couple of fillings I needed around the area during my temporary cap appointment, and is going to get a few more done when I come in for my permanent. They all remembered my situation and congratulated me on my new job and said I looked a lot happier. You could tell these are truly people who go the extra mile and really CARE about their patients. I'm happy to have found a good dentist with an incredible staff here in Santa Barbara. While I don't look forward to going back for more work, at least I know I'm in good hands.

Dishonest. Deceptive. Greedy. After I visited this dentist…read moreoffice, I honestly felt like a drunk person at a party that was taken advantage of. The bill I received in the mail came out to be so much more than I expected. It's not even about the money that I'm mad about. I have money. What makes me mad is how violated I feel. I really don't like being taken advantage of. And, furthermore, I feel even more angry when considering most of those that are in need of dental services are senior citizens and how they're probably taking advantage of them too. When I made the appointment, they told me that they could see me as soon as the next day. I honestly should have taken this as a major red flag as a lot of dentists in the area were booked out for at least a month. As for my favorite dentist, he was booked out until next year which would be in 6 months. The next red flag was the annoying incompetent receptionist who kept pushing me to sign a bunch of documents I don't really understand - this blurs the line of consent - and worst of all, I don't even have my own copy of what the hell I even signed. Maybe it IS my responsibility to read the documents and make sure I know what dental services I'm getting myself into; however, I would argue that this place lacked transparency and open honest communication with their patients. I communicated that I ONLY wanted dental cleaning. Instead, they told me blah blah blah you need this and that where they pressured me with their "professional advice" that I should get this and that. The next red flag was that they told me to get my crown replaced when my crown was done by a respectable dentist who I fully trust. I had to drive all the way back to LA to get his opinion and he told me that I don't need my crown replaced (how dare you undermine the work of my honest dentist - maybe YOU should learn from him and try going to Africa with him to set up a charity where you offer free dental services for those in need). This means that I paid a premium for "professional advice" only for me to drive back to LA to find out that the advice I received was a load of bollocks. Lastly, when I confronted them about the charges, they just told me that every dentist office needs to do a cast or whatever they call it before you see a hygienist. That's such a big load of bs. I've seen hygienists without them ever knowing my dental history; and, they have the audacity to tell me to come back for dental cleaning in 3 months. wtf. This dentist office makes me cringe. DO NOT COME HERE.

I'm writing this review because my experience at Mountain & Sea Dental was overwhelmingly negative…read morein ways that felt avoidable and unnecessary. My biggest issue was the ongoing lack of clear, accurate information. I was always very explicit that I only wanted the work we had agreed on--no surprises, no additions. Despite that, I always left the office with innumerable extra fees and then was repeatedly told certain procedures would be covered by insurance, only to find out afterward that they weren't. During my final visit, I was absolutely clear I just wanted a cleaning and then was coerced into x-rays. I refused them THREE TIMES and they insisted I get them done, assuring me insurance would cover them. I had no time to explore this claim and consented, only to, of course, end up with a huge bill. Customer service at the front desk only added to the frustration. They were consistently dismissive, unhelpful, and at times outright rude. Any attempt to get clarity about billing or treatment was met with condescension or impatience. The whole office has an unfriendly, uncomfortable energy. The most troubling part of my experience was with the crown I received. I knew I was getting a crown--but no one told me until the day it was being placed that it would only cover half my tooth. It looks strange and totally atypical, and I would never have agreed to this approach if it had been explained to me ahead of time. I was essentially informed while sitting in the chair waiting for it to be put on, at which point I had no real ability to make an informed decision. To make matters worse, I now have to redo a root canal that I had done there just over a year ago. Quality dental work simply shouldn't fail that quickly. Overall, my experience with Mountain & Sea Dental involved unclear communication, lack of informed consent, poor customer service, and dental work that didn't hold up. I left feeling unheard, blindsided, and extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this office.
