The friendliest TSA based on all my travels! It is a small airport. Not a lot of eating options and no airport lounge, but as a regional airport, I wouldn't expect that anyways. TSA line was super quick, although it was 7 AM in the morning. One thing you should know is that if you are doing baggage claim at the airport, they are very strict about making sure your luggage stays secure. If you're baggage goes around the carousel twice, they will take it off and then give it to the baggage for the specific airline and you need to go there to pick it up. It is easy to get to the airport from downtown Madison through ride share services. It is around a 30-minute ride by bus from the airport. read more

While I am not normally impressed with regional airports, I will say that Dane County is easily my favorite regional airport I have flown into in years! It honestly rivals smaller international airports. As with most smaller airports, it is a tad dated, but it is well kept, laid out well, spacious and features a decent amount of outlets throughout the terminal. Restrooms are well located and plentiful. They are also kept clean. Lots of seating, whether it is at the gates or in the lobby area. Security is a breeze. Compact, but functional. Outside of limited flight options on my go-to airlines, I am a fan of Dane County Regional, or MSN as it is more widely known as. read more

Cute little airport that is easy to get in and out. They have lots of natural light and a cute little family room. Those are great for getting the wiggles out of little ones before being forced to sit for hours at a time. Everyone I have encountered there has been friendly, and it has never been crowded while I have been there. Prices are always going to be high at airports, and I would say they are on par with everyone else. read more

This airport far exceeded my expectation. Very quiet, well organized and clean. The layout was easy to navigate. Single terminal and all the gate areas are connected. Lot of options for food, kid and pet friendly zones, work friendly areas with free wifi that actually works and massage chairs. TSA check took less than a min but even the regular lines didn't have any wait (I travelled on a thursday). My only crib is that Priority Pass doesn't have a lounge here. read more

Albeit we arrived super early likely beating the mid week rush hour crowd. But the same cannot be said for other airports I've visited. Food service on Sunday afternoon at 5:pm is non existent. Sandwich place only has one of five menu items available. Look Mom, No Hands had no one come to the counter for 10 minutes to place an order - doesn't sound like a lot of time but you only have 20 minutes before you flight boards, it cuts into your eating time. I think the Sunday evening crews need some added help keep things moving. read more

And then they just announced another AA plane landed at the same time and because we're early-- we get to wait another 10-15 mins because they don't have enough flight crew!!! Stupid Madison airport. About once or twice a year we fly out of our local airport when not bussing down to O'Hare for international flights or every year or two out of MKE for Southwest. Most of the time we Uber to the airport but the few times we parked we have opted for the closer outdoor lot (not in winter) which is a short walk to the terminal and a reasonable price. The Madison airport is small enough that it is very easy to navigate and to get through TSA though if you are too early in the morning the pre-TSA line may not be open. They recently added a new wing which is very nice but overall I am surprised they need the extra space. I wish we would get more flights so that the price of flying out of Madison would go down. This is the nicest airport I have ever visited. There are meeting rooms, a family room and animal relief area. Several little shops with snacks and Wisconsin gifts and Badger/Packers apparel. You can indeed buy a cheese head hat as well. Several restaurants to choose from as well with some grab-and-go drinks and snacks. All of the seats had charging plugs in them. Everyone was very friendly. It would be a comfortable stop for a layover. My only complaint is that I could not find a Dr Pepper to buy in the terminal. read more

Easy in and out for both pick up and drop off. TSA pre-check for departure is only at the end (South side and inside door 1 and up the stairs. I got pulled aside for a random screening. Had really no idea what was going on but just checked my two phones and laptop for bomb residue. Dane County Regional had it on lock! Heard a local also refer to it as Truax Airport and had no idea what she was talking about at first or how credible that was so I googled it. It's actually Dane County Regional Airport-Truax Field and MSN is the airport code. It's a clean airport with some dates interiors but it was a nice experience and a nice airport. Super small airport. Not a ton of foot traffic which I loved. I flew in on a Wednesday around 4pm and flew out midday on a Friday. Because it wasn't a ton of people, I was through TSA Precheck (which is only on one side of the airport near T1) in about 4 minutes and half of that was because I was chatting with the worker. The signage to get to pre check sucked and I wished they had more overhead signs pointing in the correct direction. Despite it being pretty slow, there's still a handful of restaurants and shops open for you to explore. There's a lot of connecting flights here since it's a regional airport. It's a super clean airport. And the seats are actually quite comfortable as you wait. Many of them come with charging stations below or super close to them. So you won't have to go far to stay charged and connected. For those of you traveling with pets, ESA, or service animals, there is a spot with a fire hydrant and fake grass so they can relieve themselves. Drop off or pick up was relatively painless for taxis. read more

A small airport that is very convenient! I checked my bag and got through the TSA precheck line within 10 minutes. There are a few convenience shops, a cafe, and a couple places to eat. It's nicely decorated and has plenty of seating and a business center. At least when I was there, there were not high crowds. read more

Don't expect flights to everywhere at all times - this is a smaller airport that serves the area well. If you're looking for the super-cheap flights at any time, you'll want to expand your search to the Milwaukee and Chicago airports. DCRA is smaller, so getting around is super easy. It's clean and has a simple layout. There are just enough shops and restaurants to check the boxes, but there isn't a lot of competition (like a McDonald's AND Burger King AND... you get it). Parking is simple and affordable. Not much to hate about flying in or out of here. Clean and easy. read more

This airport is easy to navigate and well appointed. When I arrived to this airport there was barely anyone there, but it was super clean and had nice sections I hadn't seen at other airports like a living room and meeting room. It looks like this airport has been updated inside and the people I encountered were cheerful and pleasant. I will say that I had a harder time finding the TSA precheck line and wound up hopping in the regular security line unbeknownst to me. Apparently there is a TSA precheck line, but I couldn't find it, so I had to go in the regular line. The security agents were kind and friendly and the lines moved quickly. There are tons of seats available at each gate, and all seem to be equipped with charger stations that actually work (which was super nice). I would def come through this airport again for ease of travel. read more

One of the better airports I've ever been to, an absolute delight. Everything thing feels serene and calm. After weeks of travel in elbow-to-elbow airports (Charlotte and San Diego in particular), this one felt like a zen rock garden by comparison. There aren't a ton of food options, but the random bagel sandwich I got was pretty incredible. The traffic and hustle and bustle driving into the airport was mild. Only bummer is that there aren't many non-stops in and out of here. It's a tough airport to fly into or out of. One quirk to note: the TSA precheck line is on the complete other side of the airport from the regular line. If you don't see any TSA precheck icons: you're in the wrong place. Kris is the absolute best. I was there during a tornado warning+baseball sized hail nightmare. She did not play around! Tough as hell, kept everything moving and as transparent as possible while adults were having stage 5 meltdowns. She was also insanely helpful when I had to switch my flights cause of the nightmare. She made calls and fought hard and gave me good advice so I could make it to Seattle to see my best friend for her birthday! Just in case there are multiples people named Kris, I'm talking about the American Airlines agent that worked on Tuesday 4/14. For a small airport, Dane County Regional isn't half bad. As expected, there is not much foot traffic inside the airport or traffic in general when it comes getting ground clearance transportation. Granted, I have never visited during peak season (e.g, holidays) but can't imagine there would ever be the chaos and overcrowding you experience at larger airports. There are a total of 16 gates so walking the length of the airport doesn't take long. Getting through TSA is also a breeze, especially if you have pre-check. Both times it has just been me and the TSA employees, lol. I haven't utilized the bathrooms so I can't speak to their cleanliness but the seating areas, charging stations, and food options seem to be well maintained. I absolutely LOVED learning something new about this airport. I had never ventured past my usual gate and had to use the restroom. The restroom I typically use was closed for cleaning and I had to go in the opposite section. There was an entire area for resting and recharging. It was very well lit and clean. read more

Since the airport is small. it's extremely easy to navigate & security lines are pretty short & quick. Restrooms are well kept. There's a couple stores before/after you go through security if you need any Badger or Green Bay souvenirs. Each of the car rental lines (directly in front of baggage claim) seemed to only have one associate working at each counter. That said, expect a little bit of a longer wait there - it was way quicker to go through security vs check my car in & out. The car itself was easy to find and drop off though. Security still required passengers to separate toiletries and electronics into bins which I was surprised to do since my home airport just days before didn't require either. In fact, I haven't had to separate toiletries (ie small 3 oz liquids) into the security bins for quite some time so was not expecting that. Not a big deal though just surprised. read more

Nursing moms as of 2024 they have a children's area with a small play/rest area, children's bathroom AND a full nursing are! This is a small, county airport. Super convenient if you're staying in Madison so you don't have to make the drive to Milwaukee's airport. It is not a very busy airport which is a great thing. I flew out mid week and there were very short lines at the ticket counter and security checkpoint. Actually, it took me less than 10 minutes to get through security. On the downside, because it is small there are not a lot of amenities. Walking to my gate I only saw one restaurant/cafe serving food. I also saw a mini Metcalfe's grocery store. Not much else to see. Overall good experience. read more

I love flying in and out of Madison. It's usually very easy. The parking is the most affordable I've seen at airports and the airport is a great size. I never need to arrive very early for a flight since their TSA line is usually very short and efficient. However, this last trip the TSA security line was the longest I've ever seen it. Usually there are only a few people in front of me. This time there was a big line. I learned that the standard security line was sending people over to TSA. This defeats the purpose of TSA and was frustrating since we didn't plan on experiencing this line. Besides this past experience, I really like the Madison airport. Everything is clean including the bathrooms, they have great food vendors, and nice places to sit while you wait for your flight. The new addition is also very nice. read more

As airports go. This one has the great feature that's it is nearly always a place you don't need to get to 2+ hours ahead of schedule to catch your flight. When there is a line at the stockade area where they X-ray the subjects for cancer and other potential illnesses, it's usually only an acceptable time of waiting. Today for example. I arrived at my target time. After a brisk transition thru the x-ray fray I was greeted politely by the TSA agents and swiftly was able to casually walk to my gate. What I failed to realize was that I had made a major error. I correctly remembered my car rental times. But didn't look at the actual flight information. I thought my flight was to be 10am. I arrived plenty early for that time frame. But when I finally arrived at gate 5, to an empty, totally empty, entire neighborhood of seating, I was puzzled. Where are all the passengers? It was at this time I actually inspected my flight information. I fly out at 2:45. Holy sh@t. I'm An impatient person in such situations. Insanely. I deliberately didn't have breakfast or coffee so I might possibly get a bite while I waited. No coffee means no caffeine to keep me awake. No coffee also means no p problems. I also take methylphenidate (aka Ritalin) for my adhd. It's a super low dose, but it makes sleeping virtually impossible. So this morning I skipped it. Now I'm sitting in the airport, which is like a ghost town, except for the incessant PA announcements for numerous reasons, none of them apply to me. Though this airport is really nice on most days. Compared to LAX or Chicagos Ohair, this place is a class operation. The bird sh/t on the window above my seating area right now is the only thing I have to say anything negative about. On the plus side, perhaps what distracted me from checking the actual flight times, was last night, at around midnight I received a notification that my Denver to Seattle flight was upgraded to first class. Nice. The only time this has happened before is my puddle jump back home; Chicago to Madison. A 40 minute flight in a small plane, no complaints. read more

This airport serves the Madison Metro area and has it's pros and cons. Pros: -Small terminal so getting in and out is quick and easy, it's impossible to get lost -Security line is never long because of aforementioned size -Parking is easy and pretty affordable ($6/day in economy lot, which is about a 8-10 minute away from terminal -Fairly peaceful experience - terminal is not super old/falling apart, and they play classical music -Like many small airports, rental car counter and baggage claim located in the same area, allowing for potential efficiencies (somebody grab the car, somebody grab the bags) Cons: -Lack of direct flights because of aforementioned size and its proximity to O'Hare (2+ hours) -Many flight times are super early in the morning because of necessity to transfer -Lack of terminal food options (eat beforehand or bring food in) -Lack of charging outlets (especially on the American side of the terminal) Overall, MSN is nothing to write home about, but adequately serves its purpose as a gateway for Southern Wisconsinites who don't want to make the trek to Chicago. read more

Arrived in Madison, WI and expected a small regional airport which it was. It's well-lighted, bathrooms are clean, and the spacing of gates reminds me of the Sioux Falls airport. Picking up luggage was fast, and the signs were helpful for finding the 'share ride' pick up spot for Uber and Lyft. It's quiet and there isn't traffic going in and out of this airport compared to bigger cities. read more

The Dane County Regional Airport is small. It's dated because there is no charging changing inside the terminals. The people had to walk around to find electrical outlets to charge phones. I even saw a telephone booth. I would give five stars for a short line at the TSA checkpoint and accessible pick-up area. In my thoughts, the airport needs to add charging stations for electronics to accommodate passengers. read more
